《Good Looking》X. He's Not My Father

You probably use 3 in 1, don't talk to me like that.
~ Aurelia's POV ~
Have you ever stared at photos that people say you look good in until you no longer believe that you look good in them? I'm doing that right now, only because I had taken a bunch of selfies at Val's house and at the time I thought that I looked good.
I seriously hate taking front camera photos, it makes me look like I have the biggest forehead in the world and at the same time, it makes my flaws more noticeable.
Not that I didn't want to have flaws, I just didn't want people to start pointing them out because that's when it begins to hurt my self esteem and things get messy.
I was walking home, after half the day was spent with my best friends, I wanted to maybe spend some time with my little sister.
Venus and I could get along quite well whenever we needed each other for something but after that, we push each other away and pretend that we don't know each other.
I walked inside of my house and locked the door, I looked around in hopes that Venus wouldn't be in her room, she usually does a lot of school work and studying when she's in her room.
But, just my luck, she wasn't in the living room nor was she in any other room which meant she was either out, in the backyard or she was in her room.
Without wanting to waste any time, I walked up the stairs and walked down the hall, to her room and hesitated before knocking on her door.
"Come in."
A small voice called out, I took a deep breath and opened the door with a soft smile, I walked inside of the room and closed the door.
Venus was laying on her bed, watching Netflix when she looked at me and sat up, she had tried to return the smile that I gave her but I could tell it was difficult for her to do so.

"Vee, do you maybe want to hang out with me? We can go to the mall?"
I invited my sister, the sun was still out and maybe she wanted to go buy some new outfits or something that'll help her with her studies.
Venus looked at me and took a moment, really processing the invite.
"Alright, I think we should hang out anyways, don't want to float too out of reach."
Venus joked as I smiled at her, I walked out of her room feeling some sort of bliss as I walked to my room and changed my outfit, I grabbed my wallet and put it in my mini book bag.
I was hoping that after a shopping spree, she would love to go out to eat.
Aurelia's Outfit
I grabbed some black sneakers and laced them up before walking out of my room, I walked downstairs and called out for my mom to let her know that I'd be taking Venus out for the rest of the day.
She was surprised to say the least but she was happy that we were actually going to have some time together, she was bound to force us hang out soon anyways.
Venus walked downstairs with baggy ripped jeans and a cute white shirt with a brown zip up sweater that was zipped up half way, she had on some white high tops on which completed her whole outfit.
Her hair was in two pigtails with her bangs out, she had a small smile on her face which seemed genuine to me, I waited for her by the door as she said her goodbyes to mom.
"Alright Vee, we're about to go broke tonight."
I told my sister, she chuckled and walked out of the house with me, since we were finally alone and I had so much things to tell her, I began to let my sister in.
"His name sounds nice, do you have a crush on him or is it just an attraction?"

Venus asked me as we continued to walk to the nearest mall, I looked at my sister and began to wonder which one was it because I actually had no clue.
I could tell she was studying my facial expressions, she made a face and then soon it went into a small crooked smile.
"You like him a lot, don't you?"
Venus asked me, I felt my cheeks go hot as I avoided eye contact.
It felt almost illegal to catch feelings for someone who you barely knew, it felt like if I had answered honestly then the SWAT team would come and take me down.
"Maybe, I don't know yet Venus. It's like I want to have a crush on him but at the same time, it's way too early."
I finally admitted to my sister, Venus nodded at me and grabbed my hand as we crossed the street after looking both ways.
Once we got to the mall, I watched as Venus's face light up and walked to a comic book store, I followed behind her and stood by her.
We went through different stores, spending wads of cash before settling down and walking to the food court, we were both starving and our legs were hurting anyways.
I got chicken tenders and some fries while Venus got a burger with friends, we both got a large coke and sat down at a table with only two seats.
"Dad was way out of line, mom and I were talking about it when you left to Valentina's home, I agree with everything you said."
Venus said as she began to choke down her burger, I swear she was ready to start coughing up her guts with the way she was wolfing down her food.
She took a sip from her coke and looked around the food court, I nodded at her before taking a bite out of my chicken tenders.
"It's good to know you two have my back, although it's literally eating at me with the way I spoke to him."
I informed my sister, Venus nodded at me and we both took turns, speaking about our father.
When we finished eating, we threw our empty containers out and threw out our empty cups before walking out of there, we had a long way home so we decided we didn't want to shop anymore.
As we walked out of the mall, there two guys who also left behind us, I enjoyed speaking and spending time with Venus.
Our bond grew tighter and closer than last time, although our bond was hanging by a severed thread.
"Where are y'all two headed?"
A guy had asked, he looked around my age but I didn't engage in any type of conversation.
Instead, Venus grabbed my hand tighter and we began to speed up our walk.
"We're talking to y'all."
"We know, it's called ignoring."
Venus retorted, I squeezed her hand and began to laugh at her reply.
That's when the two boys stopped walking after us but began to shout out profanities which I didn't like, I turned around but didn't walk any closer to them.
You probably use 3 in 1, don't talk to me like that.
I spat before grabbing my sister's hand tighter and turning around, we walked home quickly and as we almost arrived, we began to laugh about the altercation when we got inside of our house.
I'm glad that I decided to take my sister out, I now only find her 50% revolting to be around.
Just don't tell her I said that.

A (Not So) Simple Fetch Quest
Oh great hero! The evil Demon Lord has once again arisen to terrorise our lands, and we have summoned you to save our people! No, we don't want you to fight the demon lord! Of course not; we're the good guys! What sort of good guys kidnap people from other worlds and force them to take part in wars that have nothing to do with them? That would just be plain evil! We'd be no better than the demons! Katie, after her summoning by an excessively loud mage suddenly takes an unexpected twist, is sent off on a simple fetch quest, with a promise that she'll be back home in five minutes at most. She doesn't even need to leave the building. Alas, when a goddess' blessing causes her wish for an actual adventure to be taken rather more literally than she expected, she finds herself lost in a dark cave, far away from the sword she was supposed to acquire and far too close to a population of giant bugs. Still, at least she wished her life wasn't in any danger. Among other things. Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it. This is a dark litRPG adventure, both in terms of Katie accidentally wishing all the lights out, and also in that she loses as often as she wins, often with horrific and disturbing consequences. Luckily, Katie isn’t the sort of person to let a mere grizzly death or two get her down, and is prepared to try, try and try again to get her hands on the holy sword and finally complete her ‘simple’ fetch quest. Or perhaps—with a few resistance skills under her nightie—she might even come to enjoy losing. Not that she’d ever consider forgoing revenge, even if she did. I’ve ticked all the content warning checkboxes for this one. There’s no explicit sexual content, but there are enough references to justify the warning. Profanity happens rarely, but Katie isn’t averse to swearing when she gets particularly angry. As for gore/trauma, it doesn’t get much worse than the first few chapters, but there will be occasional chapters that have extra content warnings.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above.
