how can i trust you
when i can't trust myself?
i don't find any difference
they are the same in what they do to me—
when i looked for life and meaning
in what i don't want i hated the world

in what i can't have i hated myself.
why do you need volunteers?
can't you try to do it yourself?
the small whys i've gathered
either blow up into giants
that become the claws of the big why
or dissipate into nothingness
in the sizzle and dazzle of living.

Along the way he's met a few girls, some good, some bad. He's looking to save the world, establish an evil empire, secure a future for the people he considers his, and maybe finally kill that damned superhero that started it all. This is not 'the boys'. Not all superheroes or supervillains are evil, The 'super' world is expanding to include aliens, magic, and the children of ancient deities and legends. This is NOT a superhero genre deconstruction. Many heroes truly are heroes, and they don't all need to be destroyed to make a good story, but it does look into the dark side of superpowers and the unreasonable and often contradictory demands placed on exceptional people. Please note that this book has extremely graphic and sometimes gross fight scenes, heroes as villains, villains as heroes, opinionated and often politically incorrect characters, some graphic sex scenes, dad jokes, dirty jokes, realistic depictions of romance and flirting, bondage and dominance themes, and more than a few cuss words when they are really appropriate.

Co-owners and co-developers of the virtual game world, Darkentide, Justine and Alfie are on the verge of introducing new shadow monsters to challenge their few dozen dedicated players. Justine's part is to program a solar eclipse in Darkentide. Alfie's part is to design and release the shadow monsters during the eclipse. Justine succeeds with her programming, and then the sun goes out in Darkentide. But when Alfie enters the shadow monster difficulty level with an extra zero at the end, he unleashes an evil greater than even he could imagine. A hooded figure appears in their office, turning Alfie to ash where he sits. The stranger spares Justine, but imprisons her inside the Darkentide game, to prevent her from interfering with his plans to destroy the real world. He also sends Greta, a dancing nurse he summoned and has high hopes for, to watch over Justine and make doubly sure the female developer won't do something stupid. Can Justine figure out a way to escape back to the real world and put a stop to the hooded man's evil schemes? Can Greta be the female Pinocchio her summoner wants, and become a real girl? And what about poor Alfie? Can he ever amount to anything more than a pile of ashes? And where is that flowery smell coming from?
