The next day, it was the day the champions would be chosen. I felt sick. But luckily, Fred and George and Lee were already planning a tonne of pranks for me to see to cheer me up. Fred and George had developed some new sweets over the summer, and they were finally going to test them out on some of our 'enemies'. It was going to be great to see.
The first wave of pranks happened during breakfast, when Fred slipped a new potion they developed over the holidays into Adrian Pucey's cup. Pucey had always had it out for the twins, and therefore me. But, when it came to me, instead of calling me 'blood traitor' or insulting my financial status, he went after my appearance. He hadn't insulted me so far this year, but we weren't in any classes as we are in different years so it wasn't very likely. However, he would shoot glared and smirk when I walked past, making me feel even more self conscious, so when the twins said he would be their first victim, I didn't try and stop them.
As soon as he took a sip from the cup, his skin went pale. Then, it turned green. Not a pale green - a vivid neon green. He was now starting to glow - it was quite a sight. Everyone burst out laughing, and tried to find the culprits, however the twins weren't in the hall anymore, they had gone off to set the next one. And Pucey's hair was now turning the same shade of green - looking practically radioactive. It was simple, but brilliant.
"Those boys!" Angelina laughed out as we left the hall to go to class.
I didn't witness their next prank, but did hear that during potions, Professor Snape couldn't speak, because everytime his mouth opened, a high pitched voice spoke instead of his own. They learnt a really complex and difficult spell, just to cheer me up and get back at the Gryffindor-hating professor.

Their final prank before the evening, occurred as the corridor i was leaving began to fill us as classes were getting dismissed. Out of nowhere, Monatgue began shouting out.
"Minerva! My darling Minerva!" He was saying, running up to get and clinging to her foot. This was brilliant. Montague had been out under a simple love potion, and was now refusing to let go of poor McGonagall's leg.
"I won't let go of you my beautiful!" Everyone started laughing.
"TWINS!" McGonagall shouted, and we all turned to follow her stare, to two red heads running away.
"I love you so much Minerva!" Montague carried on.
Eventually, McGonagall had to drag him to the hospital wing - but he has humiliated himself in front of half the school. It was an excellent end to the day. And, we knew McGonagall enjoyed seeing Montague get embarrassed, just didn't appreciate the fact he was declaring his love for her.
We didn't see the twins until the selection. They slipped in, no one noticed them - if they did I'm sure all of Slytherin house would go after them, and the rest would just congratulate them. I only realised they were there because Fred held my hand and squeezed it gently. I looked up to him and slightly smiled - he knew I was worried for Cedric. As everyone fell silent, the nerves started kicking in even more.
Soon, the Beauxbaton and Durmstrang champions had been selected - Evangeline had entered her name, but not been chosen luckily. Finally, it was the Hogwarts selection. My hands began to uncontrollably shake, until Fred held my hand again to steady me. Then, the goblet shot flames out, and a small scrap of paper flew out. Dumbledore grabbed the paper and opened it. He turned around, to spot the champion.

"Cedric Diggory!"
Everyone erupted into cheers. Except me. I was completely silent as our friends clapped loudly for him, and the whole of Hufflepuff erupted into cheers. I just sat there, feeling numb, and a tear slipped down my cheek. Then, I felt someone out their arm around me and pull me close. Fred. He just hugged me as we saw Cedric leave the room to join the other champions.
I was so upset and worried, that I didn't even hear the Harry also had his name in the goblet. I felt bad for him. He wasn't even if age. But I didn't know him like I knew Cedric. The amount of danger he was now in was too much for me. I'd lost nearly everyone I loved, and I wasn't going to risk losing another friend. Everyone else thought I was overreacting, but they weren't friends with Cedric like I was - he was my brother, and was the only person there for me when mum died.
But, somewhere amongst my thoughts and fears, I felt someone tug at my hand and make me stand. Fred guided me back to the common room, never letting go of my hand. None of our other friends even noticed I was upset, they were too excited about how they had two Hogwarts champions. I gave Fred one last hug, whispered a thankyou and went to my room. And burst into tears all over again.

Accompanied by a wild witch who has secrets of her own, they come across terrible creatures, hauntings, cursed villages, and memories from their past. Who else will they meet along their journey, and to find what he is looking for, how far will the wizard have to wander west? NOTE: The above synopsis is intentionally written to be as spoiler-free as possible. If you would like a more in-detail synopsis, one that contains minor spoilers, please check out the "Synopsis" chapter at the beginning of this fiction. If you read and enjoy, please leave a rating or review! FORMERLY TITLED: THE GLIMMERLING This story was formerly titled "The Glimmerling", because the first part was a short story of that title; it has since been expanded upon, thus the title change. Chapters 1-8 (30k words) are the first 'arc', if you want to get a feel for the story. To give some context on the setting: Magic is a bit weaker in this story than you might be used to, and we start off following some relatively new magic users. For some perspective, being able to light a campfire with magic is considered relatively advanced for someone who is the age of the main character. Magic can become very powerful - and there are some examples of powerful wizards within this story - but it's not where the main characters are yet. Part of the story is about following them as they learn more about magic. Enemies are also very dangerous, and running, hiding, or trying to talk their way out of a dangerous situation is often a better choice than fighting for the characters. While I have added tags for traumatizing content, sexuality, violence, swearing, etc. I try to avoid super-explicit descriptions of these things. But they are part of the story.
