《Devil May Love | Niklaus Mikaelson》Chapter Eighteen: Elijah's Return

from the lower level of the mansion right after I hung up the phone with Anastasia and went to investigate, only to be stopped by the stupid invisible barrier Nik had put on the exits of the house. Therefore, I was forced to yell out like somebody's mother who heard her children roughhousing but was too lazy to go down to stop them.
"Klaus is that you?!" The ruckus stopped almost immediately so I was hoping it was him. I didn't expect him to yell back, just come up to me. I'd realized I could've listened in with my supernatural hearing too late and soon, the bedroom door was being opened.
Though I was hoping to see Niklaus, I was happier with whom I laid eyes on.
"Elijah?!" I exclaimed, almost feeling tears swell into my eyes as soon as I'd seen him.
Once he walked through the threshold, I ran to his arms supernaturally fast and he embraced me in a much needed hug. With the craziness of the mate bond and just trying to survive, I was in the dire need of an Elijah hug.
The warmth and security Elijah was known for making me feel washed over me immediately, flushing my skin as I gave him an 'I missed you' squeeze before we pull away. He looked the same of course, but there was unhappiness in his deep brown eyes that once had been gratitude all those years ago. I'm sure it had something to do with dealing with the antics his family was known for.
Elijah had always been very noble and responsible. Nothing seemed to affect him so greatly that he would respond in such a rash way that could only be described as humanlike. He was always very cunning and sharp, clear to the point and clever but I could see his resolve had been tested quite a few times, just by looking into his eyes.
"What happened to you?" Elijah questioned me, examining my bloodstained dress and ash drenched skin with pure chagrin. He lifted my chin and examined my face as if he were checking for damage.
I gave him a small sigh and shrug, "Er—your brother"
Elijah sighed as if he expected the answer, completely unsurprised before Niklaus finally made an appearance. A clear glare was etched onto his face when he saw Elijah and I and how close we were standing. I could smell my mate's jealousy and it took everything within me not to laugh about it.
I cleared my throat, making eye contact with Niklaus, "You undaggered him?"
Elijah responded before his brother could, giving the blond a pointed look, "No, apparently not"
Niklaus merely rolled his eyes, "It was probably one of your brothers' antic, yet another failure to add to the list"
Glaring at him, I shook my head before turning towards his brother, whom I was preferring at the moment.
"We have a lot to discuss" And the older Mikaelson nodded in agreement as if he already knew what I would be speaking to him about. It was a bit obvious, seeing as he found me in their mansion in Niklaus's room.
"And what would that be?" Niklaus questioned, stepping in the space between Elijah and I, sparing the two of us a wary look.
There goes the green eyed monster showing itself again.
I merely smirked at him, "I don't see how it's your concern"
The hybrid grinned back, "Of course it's my concern, you're my mate Dear Angel, any concern of yours is practically a concern of mine"

My smile dropped and I went to snap at him but Elijah stepped in, "Excellent, the two of you are aware of the circumstances...that makes this all less difficult"
Klaus looked at his brother with a mix of confusion and annoyance while I just nodded in agreement, shooting him an uneasy smile. I needed to discuss my phone call with Anastasia with the both of them and the panic and worry I had felt previously were slowing rushing back into my bloodstream.
"What are you implying Elijah?" Klaus questioned as we all sat down on the bedroom furniture, facing each other.
The brown eyed Mikaelson turned his gaze to his little brother, "Well seeing as the two of you know you are each other's mate, I assume you know of the prophecy"
"P-prophecy?" I squeaked, feeling blood rushing to my head.
A prophecy meant, concrete, set in stone...destiny. There were no chances of waking up from some nightmare to everything being back to normal. Things were only getting started. Nik and I meeting was not an accident, it was meant to happen. There was an ultimate reason why I had returned to Mystic Falls right after he had broken the curse and conveniently, Damon was bitten by a werewolf.
Elijah sighed at my astonishment and I knew he was worried of Klaus and my potential ignorance on something very serious involving the two of us.
"Has Ana not informed you about any of this?" He asked me, seeming urgent for me to know just an ounce of information.
My best friend's words immediately flooded back into my head, "Y-yes she did, I was just about to mention that actually. I'd just gotten off of the phone with her because the situation but she said nothing of a prophecy—wait actually, she did and she said something about different parts, that there were three"
"What the hell is going on?!" Niklaus growled after looking between his brother and I, obviously he was annoyed about being the only one who wasn't informed on anything.
Elijah completely ignored him and continued to look at me, "Good, good, so you know about the ritual?"
I sighed and nodded, "Yes, but I doubt the doppelganger will be willing to cooperate knowing that I'm Nik's mate and well—she hates him"
A wave of annoyance, frustration, and anger came over me and I looked over to my mate who was shooting daggers at his brother and I and I sighed.
"Elijah, we need to fill him in before he throws a fit" I said finally, rolling my eyes at the childish glare the blond Mikaelson was throwing at me for ignoring his attempts to interrupt the conversation.
Elijah seemed just as annoyed with his brother as I was, "Very well" He turned to his blue eyed younger brother, "What is it you haven't been filled in on, Niklaus"
My mate sneered at his brother, "I don't know maybe about this bloody prophecy the two of you have been rambling on about while I have no idea what the hell you're getting at!"
I was torn between calming Klaus's nerves and letting him ramble on until Elijah became sick of his shit and smacked him or something. As much as I would've been entertained by Klaus losing the upper hand for once, I didn't need another Mikaelson smack down going on. I rested my hand on Klaus' shoulder and have him a look that he pretended to ignore but there was no denying the decrease in anger I felt coming from him.

Elijah observed our interaction and nodded before looking back to his brother, "This 'bloody' prophecy you speak of, Niklaus, is your eternal fate. It consists of three parts that must be performed or else bad things will happen, starting...with the death of Evangeline here"
There was an overwhelming need to cower in fear at the thought of my death but I kept my composure as I watched Klaus take in all of the information.
"And what are these...parts?" Klaus murmured after a short silence, refusing to look at me.
"Perhaps we should sit down" Elijah suggested with a sigh.
I decided to butt in, "We should"
Elijah and I looked at Klaus expectantly before he cracked under the pressure and we all went to his study, after I cleaned myself up and he allowed me to leave the room. There, Elijah and I explained everything we knew about the prophecy about Klaus and me.
*~*~*
After Elijah and I told everything to Klaus, he left the room immediately and I felt a wave of dark emotion come over me. I was going to go after him but Elijah stopped me, explaining that Klaus needed to sort his thoughts alone and his impulsive behavior would only be a danger to me if I tried to stop him. Deciding Elijah was right; I sat back down with him and glanced around the newly renovated room.
"So...how were you doing...before you were daggered?" I asked my old friend as he sipped aimlessly on the alcoholic beverage his brother gave him.
Elijah looked at me and seemed to be caught between a smile and a frown, "I've been searching for Niklaus for centuries Lina, this one has been no different"
Sighing, I shook my head, "I was exactly afraid of that answer"
"No matter how reckless he is, he knows where our family is" Elijah explained, obviously not liking my disappointment.
"Yes, and so do I—well my brothers, they're here in Mystic Falls, you know that. Stop giving him the upper hand, Elijah" I just about begged, in all the years I'd known Elijah he was always following Klaus's trail, cleaning up his messes and allowing him to stress him.
Klaus returned to the room with an irritated look on his face "Evangeline, love, I don't suppose you're trying to turn dear Elijah against me, now are you?"
I gave the Original hybrid my best sickly sweet smile, "Of course not, I'm just informing him that he's not obligated to clean up after you. You're a big boy; you should be able to take care of your own messes. You don't need your big brother to do that, he deserves his own life."
"What Elijah does with his spare time is nothing orchestrated by me" Klaus snapped as if I accused him of slavery.
I rolled my eyes at his hostility, "Yes but you know you're brother, he's noble and he cares about his family with everything and you know that, therefore you take advantage of it, hence how you're still breathing at this moment"
Klaus growled at me, eyes flashing a haunting yellow, "You have no right to speak to me like that!"
"Says who?!" I exclaimed standing up to face him as though we saw eye to eye instead of eye to chest, "I don't give a fuck how old you are, Niklaus, you are an asshole to your brother and it needs to stop! You're not entitled to shit and you're done taking advantage of him you—"
Klaus, per usual, slammed me against the wall by the throat, squeezing as he snarled in my face. He showed his hybrid face completely and looked one hundred percent done with me but I didn't care. I wasn't going to spare him just because he was powerful. What was he going to do, kill me? That'd be nothing new.
"Maybe I should rip your pretty little heart out and see if I can heal—"
"ENOUGH!" Elijah boomed, making us aware of his presence, "Niklaus, let her go"
Klaus didn't move an inch, he just tightened his grip, continuing to bare his teeth at me. My skin was increasing temperature as I glared back, feeling the familiar sting of my eyes changing color and the elongation of my canines as I fought against his grip on my neck. I was ready to breathe fire in his face when he was ripped off of me by Elijah and forced to take a seat.
I was ready to give fighting the hybrid another go when Elijah spun around and gave me a stern look that said 'take a fucking seat' so I did, reluctantly as I glared at Klaus childishly. He glared back with equal maturity as Elijah took the seat across from us.
"Lina, I appreciate your concern but it is not necessary" Elijah gave me a grateful look but also disapproving for picking a fight with his impulsive brother, "And Niklaus, Evangeline is right, there will be no more games in terms of our family. When we get them from the Salvatore brothers, we will all be united, as you promised"
"Of course" Klaus responded with an irritated smile.
"And" I interrupted catching the attention of the two men, "I can be united with mine"
Elijah went to agree but Klaus cut him off, "No—Evangeline, love, you can't seriously believe I will be letting you out of my sight after the information that I have been supplied today. How should I know your brothers won't hold you in that cell of there's and let you die in hopes of hurting me?"
My brothers have a cell?
"Because they're my family and unlike you, they wouldn't use me like that!" I exclaimed, feeling a great amount of frustration towards the Original once again that day.
Klaus rolled his eyes at my anger towards him, basically dismissing it, "I wouldn't be so sure, love, they haven't even come for you. They know where you are yet they just send empty threats but keep my family in their sights. If I didn't know any better I'd think that their hatred for me, fueled by their love for that doppelganger, may be greater than their love for you"
Tears began swelling in my eyes at his harsh words but I bit them back and stood in his face.
"Actually" I growled, "They know I can handle myself!"
With that, I punched Klaus in the face as hard as I could. I heard the atrocious snap of his jaw and his skin was badly tinged where I hit him. His eyes flashed yellow and he went to pounce on me as I stood ready for a fight before Elijah pulled him away, yelling at him to stop.
A single tear fell for the two brothers to see before I sped back up to the room and slammed the door behind me, dissolving into tears. Klaus's words began running through my head and I was afraid that they could possibly have been true.
