《Mute - Zelink Modern AU》Mark (8)

"You seem to be in the correct seats" The teacher stated, scanning his eyes around the classroom.
He started to do the register, calling people's names out, pronouncing some of them horrendously wrong. Link and Zelda's last names both began with H, so they were right bext to eachother on the alphabetically sorted list.
"Link?" He called the name out. Zelda knew that he weren't there. It felt weird hearing his name being read out, all of the other teachers normally just looked for him and marked him present or absent. "Link Hero?" He repeated, including his last name this time.
As he looked closer at the register, he saw that Link's name was marked with an 'M' for that lesson.
"M?" He muttered to himself. The register was marked with letters. M standed for medical, so when the teacher said that was on Link's name, Zelda immediately knew that he was with her mother, and she felt more at ease.
About 10 minutes into the lesson, Link made an appearance. He slowly opened the door, not wanting to draw any attention to himself. The class was being rather loud as the only task was to plan for the assessment, which ment that almost everyone were slacking off a lot.
Everything went quiet as soon as Link entered. He kept his head to the floor and tried to ignore all of the eyes that were on him, so he quickly made his way to his seat and did what he always did, his face blushing deeply at the unwanted attention.
"Who're you?" The teacher asked, completely forgetting that Link was marked M on the register.
Link stayed silent, refusing to look the teacher in the eye. It almost looked like he didn't even hear the him. Zelda absolutely hated seeing Link like that, sad and nervous. Seeing him smile on Sunday was one of the warmest feelings she'd ever had, and seeing him like this was definitely the coldest.

"That's Link, sir" Zelda said, hoping that it would jog his memory. Link looked up at Zelda in shock. He never would've expected anyone to help him out. No one really knew how much it meant to him.
"Ah, Link Hero?" He asked, walking back to the computer at the front of the class to mark him here on the register.
"Yes" Zelda answered again, although she knew full well that he wasn't asking her.
"Seems you're not much of a talker" He commented, leaving Link to get on with his own thing.
"What could you possibly mean, sir?" Mido laughed, his face fixated on Link, trying and succeeding to intimidate him "Link is without a doubt, the chatterbox of the entire school! Aren't you Link?" Link looked over to Zelda for a split second, and saw that she was looking at Mido with a very angry expression.
"Well Mido, it's obvious that you're the one with a big mouth and an obnoxiously large ego" Zelda quickly stood up, looking the bully up and down. "You probably don't even know what most of those words mean, do you?" She cocked her head as her eyes started squinting even more.
Some of the class started to laugh, as the others were so shocked by Zelda's outburt but they still made sounds like 'ooo'. Mido looked very surprised. He was more shocked than anyone else, as Zelda seemed like she'd been thinking of that since the start of the year. It was a shame that Zelda was so focused on trying to brush off the people talking to her about what she just said, as she didn't notice Link's smirk as his eyes smiled with him.
"Alright guys, that's enough" The teacher finally commented, calming everyone down.
Everything was silent for a while, but the noise slowly started to pick up. Zelda was sat with two of her friends that were picking on her that morning about Link.

"Why do you think he had an M? What does that stand for?" One said to the other.
"I'm not sure. Do you know, Zelda?"
"N-No. How would I know?" She panicked, picking up her pen and pretending to write something down.
No one said anything about it after that. It was obvious that Zelda knew something, as she went bright red and her mother worked at the school.
"Do you think he's just perminantally lost his voice?"
Why? Zelda thought. Why is he all I hear about? Is Link this, is Link that, does Link have this, does Link have that. That's all I hear. People need to learn to stick their noses in their own business. It's pretty funny how I'm only noticing how much they mention him now that I've actually, properly met him.
"Obviously not" Zelda sounded moody and answered like the answer was extremely obvious (which it kind of was).
Why won't they just drop it?
As long as it felt, the lesson finally came to a close as the school day had finally finished. Link looked like he'd packed away a few minutes early, and that he would try to get out of school as soon as possible like he normally did. Of course, Zelda subconsciously followed his actions.
As soon as the bell went, Link sprung out of his seat and left before the teacher could dismiss the class.
"Don't the rest of you follow!" The teacher shouted, getting frustrated that Link just left.
Zelda was itching to get out, but she knew she had to wait. Luckily, she got let out a millisecond after he shouted.
They were let out on tables, so Zelda was let out, but so were the people who picked on Link as they were sat on her table.
"Oi, Hero!" Mido shouted, from behind Zelda to Link, who was in front of her on the corridor. "Pretty ironic name, isn't it! For someone who can't even talk" He continued to taunt, shouting loudly so that Link would definitely hear him, the other people from their class behind him trying not to laugh.
The corridors were completely empty other than them.
"Shut up!" Zelda turned around and shouted as she stopped in her tracks.

Science fiction elements won't be introduced for quite some time. I currently update my work at a rate of one chapter per week. I'm also in the process of editing chapters 1 - 7, changing the format to make it more readable, and introducing more show and less tell. The reworked chapters will have (edited) after the title. All chapters after 8 have already been written in the new style. I have a Patreon page if you wish to donate. Also, there will be intense situations, some explicit violence, and although it is not an erotic work, one or two sex scenes.
