《The Love Abroad》Chapter 27

My mom wasted no time when it came to planning the wedding. She dived headfirst in all the responsibilities and since my dress has already been picked out - still needed a fitting though - she was grabbing the reigns of the wedding planner.
"I called the Minister Mill; the only opening they have for a wedding is Sunday, March 25th. After that the next opening is in September." Tom and I look at each other.
"Perfect." We say in unison. My mom returns to the phone, confirming the date. Tom puts his arm around my shoulder, pulling me into his side.
"Here's the tough part. The invitation list. You realize you're giving your potential guests only a month and a half notice?" Emma snarks with her half empty glass of wine in her hand. "How many people are you planning on inviting?"
"Not many. Probably less than 100, Em. Close family and friends."
"We want it intimate." I continue Tom's sentence. He looks down at me with a warm smile. "Transportation could be an issue. My dad's family is about 7 people worthy enough to invite then my mum's family can come from Spain - they're all billionaires anyway - then 2 or 3 of my close girlfriends."
Diana nods "And all of Tom's friends and family are mostly here in the UK or regularly visit. This shouldn't be a problem. I have a few contacts around that could help with overnight accommodations."
From the sounds of it the only things left for the wedding is the caterer and the cake. The most important part of the wedding is definitely the cake.
The next day Tom and I have an appointment with Rachel Mount, a famed cake designer in London. Her cakes are almost too beautiful to eat.

"You're cutting it a bit close with the cake but I'll put this on the top of my list. You two deserve a beautiful wedding cake." Rachel begins writing on her notepad the date and location of the wedding.
"You are so gracious to be letting us barge in here with less than 6 weeks to make a cake. We are completely honored." Oh Tom, sometimes I wish he spoke like a normal person so that my heart can beat a normal beat.
Rachel smiles under her dark rimmed glasses. "Any ideas on flavor or design?" I look to Tom who is staring at me. "Well, design we haven't thought about. Perhaps you could surprise us. Maybe something classy with an edgy flare?"
"Lemon Drizzle is my favorite flavor though I know Marie detests it." I make a disgustful look. Seriously I hate anything lemon flavored - absolutely atrocious.
"I'm a red velvet type of girl."
Rachel continues writing notes on her pad. "Okay. I have an idea. How about a 4 tier cake, red velvet with a splash of lemon, enough for Tom to taste it but not enough to overpower the red velvet and a white fondant with white dust covering the cake. Since you two suggesting classy with an edge, how about adding some black roses with silver dust on them to make the tiers stand out?"
I love the idea but I can see Tom thinking about it in his head. His finger trailing over his lips in contemplation. "Fantastic idea!" Tom stands up quickly, shaking Rachel's hand before returning to me.
"Dear, I have a tuxedo fitting to go to. I almost forgot about it, some of the lads are meeting me there."
How did I not know about this? I thought. And why hasn't he told me who these 'lads' are?
"Okay. I can take it from here." He leans down, kissing my forehead. "Love you Marie." He grabs his jacket and rushes out the office leaving Rachel and I alone.
"You two really seem happy. I've seen hundreds of couples throughout my career yet I've never seen one as in love as you two are. You seldom get to witness a true love fairytale."
I can't stop myself from smiling. "You seldom get to live one too."

Shadow in the North
What if a work of fiction wasn't fiction at all? What if we only thought it was fiction because it was written down, and we were separated from it by the page? Isabel Darrow, troubled by her past and feeling disconnected from the world, likes her doctor's suggestion that the world of fiction might become reality. She likes the idea of waking up in the middle of her favourite book with the handsome, brooding Mr Thornton glaring at people in his mill yard, but she doesn't worry about the foul air of dirty, smoky Milton, because it's not real, and it was written over 160 years ago.But then she takes a trip to Oxford, and gets waylaid along the way, finding herself greeted at a smoky train station, by a man called Mr Hale, who claims to be her godfather. When Isabel meets Margaret and first sees Mr Thornton, she's determined to help the course of love run a little more smoothly for the two stubborn lovers. But Gaskell hadn't accounted for a second young lady in the Crampton house, and whilst Isabel tries to adapt to a life where women have no independence or equality, Milton must adapt to her. The question is, will Mr Thornton adapt to her, or Margaret, first?
