"Melody! We need your help here!" Uravity called.
" This civilian needs your help," Uravity said as she handed her a young boy.
The boy had noticeable bit wounds, and nasty teeth marks. I quickly tried to find nice place out of harms way and started to heal the boy to the best of my abilities. Suddenly the ground began to tremble as i heard foot steps and multiple. Than I heard them, the villains.
"The Hero's are here. Scout out the area," Said a villain.
There was no place to hide within the crumbling Building, so Melody quickly dashed into a near by room. It was filled with cubicles and without thinking she ran In and hide. It wasn't long Before the door bursted open.
As the villain inspected the area, Melody stayed still and held the injured boy close to her. As Melody looked up she noticed an emergency escape. Taking a deep breath she quickly and quietly sneaked her way through the office to the escape door. At the door, Uravity was just there and Hiden. Melody handed the boy over to Uravity so she could safely get the boy out of here, but before she escaped an Octopus tentacle wrapped around her waist. They quickly pull and slam her against the wall.
As Melody recovered she quickly looked up to see who stood before her. SunEater, one of the most powerful villains roaming in Japan. He is also known to be a cannibal, and eat his victims. Melody trembled at the mere sight of him as SunEater smiled cruelly at her. The tentacles tightened around her as he pulled her closer to him. Melody trashed and struggled as he pulled her closer and closer. Soon they were face to face.
Melody flinched as she felt SunEater slowly remove her mask. She shut her eyes tight as she waited for inevitable death, but all she heard was a small gasp from him. SunEater drops her mask in shock.

"Y/n?" He asked softly with hope in his voice.
Melody or Y/n slowly opened her eyes to see SunEater staring deeply at her.
"Y-yes," She answered slowly.
Suddenly she was pulled into a tight hug. Y/n simply stood there confused beyond belief, as she stood for what felt like eternity. She could hear him sobbing ever so softly on her shoulder. Suddenly they heard footsteps heading towards the office. SunEater quickly shoves her into a nearby cubical as two more villains show up a few yards away.
"Tamaki, we heard something in here. Did you find someone in here?" One asked.
"No, I was just seeing things," He lied as he left with them.
Y/n sat there in shock at his Name. Tamaki Amajiki, that was her best friend's name. A friend who was said to be dead. As she sat there she was spooked at the sudden appearance of Lamillion, Her close friend.
"Y/ - I mean Melody, I'm here to escort you to safety," Mirio smiled as he offered her his hand.
With a weak smile she happily accepted his help as they quickly made their way out of the building.
-------
It was a month later and the thought of Tamaki pledged her mind as she stared down at her wine glass. Tonight was a ball of sorts for the heros, a party of kinds. All Y/n knew was that it was for the heros, so she went with Mirio. But since he is a social butterfly, he went off to talk with the other guests. While she stayed by the refreshments and snack section, being more on the introvert side herself. As she scanned the ballroom she noticed someone.
She thought as she recognized Tamaki on the otherside of the room.
I know those eyes, following me

And it seems He noticed as he slowly made his ways over to her. Since Suneater never reveals his face, many didn't even noticed him.
Younger and kinder, it haunts all my dreams
Y/n quickly sipped the last of her wine as she tries to loose Tamaki as she wonders threw the crowd. But no matter how much she moved around she cold still fell him on her tail.
In eyes once familiar, a stranger I see
With so many words left to say
Soon Y/n finds herself on the balcony looking over the city. As she turned to see Tamaki standing just at the door.
"T-Tamaki," Y/n called nervously.
This man is dead, he is no more
He died a little each day
Like a thief, the Château d'If has stolen him away
The mind plays tricks
You are confused
"I'm not the Same Tamaki you knew. Y/n I've changed a great deal the last time we saw each other," He said as he got closer to her.
He looks at her with sorrowful eyes as he gently caresses her cheek.
Dead and cold
Tamaki looked back into the ballroom as everyone started to dance in the waltz. He quickly took her hand and lead her to the dance floor as they danced along with the others. Y/n stared at him with confusion and intrigue as she took in all of his features. Her heart fluttering in her chest, Tamaki had aged very handsomely.
I am a ghost, just a mirage (There in that voice...)
Who chases traces of you [Traces of you...)
[Dark and familiar, and deep as the sea)
This man is dead,
He is no more [ I know those eyes...)
As they crossed the dance floor, they didn't fail to catch Mirio's attention. As he quickly recognized the person Y/n was dancing with. The two eventually managed to cut through and leave the ballroom. They traveled down the stairs and stopped at the bottom, as he slowly placed on his mask. Turning to Face Y/n as he towered over her.
Mirio eventually managed to slip out of the crowd and quickly followed after Y/n and Tamaki. But he came to a halt as he stood onto of the stair case. Tamaki, no SunEater stood over Y/n as he gently held her chin. Causing Y/n to look up at her friend.
Tamaki pulled her into a soft, but passion filled kiss. As he turned to leave, but just before he disappeared into the night he gave on last and final glare and cocky smile to Mirio.
From the top of the stairs Mirio held a nerves and worried look, yet his eyes held anger and jealousy behind them. Because Tamaki knew he stole your heart from right under his nose.

The Last Science [SE]
[SE has the same content as the original story, split into smaller chunks for easier reading. This story is on a temporary hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I work in healthcare and unfortunately no longer have the freetime to continue posting on a regular basis. As soon as our workload decreases, I will return. Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, the fading town of Rallsburg stumbles upon an amazing discovery—magic itself. Faced with potentially world-shattering power, the people of Rallsburg keep the secret for themselves. Led by Rachel DuValle, a perpetually underestimated college student with grand ambitions, they seek to found a new society. The world beyond suspects nothing, but magic cannot stay hidden forever. A train arrives in Rallsburg carrying Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate. To him, magic could represent meaning for his life, an explanation for his empty existence. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed. The story includes elements of mystery, action, crime, interpersonal drama, relationships, philosophy, sociology, politics, and much more, all centered on the perspective characters driving the tale. This is the "Scraps Edition" of the story, where the chapters have been split up into bite-size chunks (roughly 1500-3000 words), for your convenience. The prose has been edited from its original form, with some improvements, but there are no content differences from the original. New chapters will be posted throughout each week starting on Friday and appearing on multiple days thereafter, depending on the length of the chapter. Content Warning (by request): This series delves into some topics and situations which may be upsetting for some readers. In American rating parlance, the narrative would be rated PG-13 (except for language), but some have noted the story can get pretty dark on occasion. Please use your best judgment, and don't be afraid to take breaks and come back later. I'll still be here! [Discord] - come hang out and chat!
