jake tapped his foot on the floor, waiting for the clock to turn 4 pm. he really wanted to leave the tutoring class he was in since he already knew half of the material anyways and most of the classes he was in for school were advanced placement and sometimes even those classes were too easy for him. he had only 2 regular classes with sunghoon and yuna.
he would leave the afterschool tutoring if it wasn't for his mother who wanted him in these classes though he was going to try and convince her to take him out of it since he was already so busy and getting out it would allow him to have more free time.
as he was writing down notes, his phone vibrated in his pocket. he put down his pencil and took out his phone, turning it on. he then saw message from yuna in the groupchat that he was in with both her and sunghoon.
jake chuckled lowly as he hid his phone to where the teacher couldn't see it and texted them back
jake smiled as he put his phone away. now he was really anticipating to leave class
few more minutes passed by and the bell rung, signaling they could leave
"finally" jake muttered as he stood up and began packing his things along with the other students doing the same
jake always felt bad for leaving yuna and sunghoon. he didn't mean too because they were his best friends and he loved hanging out with them but once jake started getting involved in clubs, tutoring, student council and everything else, he began not hanging out with them as much
jake grabbed his bag and left the classroom, excited to finally hang out with his friends even if it's just for a little

jake reached the library and smiled. he was about to text them that he was there but got stopped when he got another notification from his other friend who also happened to be in student council. he read the notification and sighed
jake bit his lip, knowing he would get in trouble by the advisor if he wasn't the one leading the meeting especially since last time he had jungwon lead the meeting
yuna kept looking at the time at her phone, "his class ended 20 minutes ago, where is he?"
"probably had to go something else as always" sunghoon joked slightly but honestly he wouldn't be surprised if he did since it happened so often
"hey, have some faith in him" yuna responded but she knew sunghoon was probably right but she wanted to give jake the benefit of the doubt
then their phones dinged. yuna looked at the notification, reading it out loud, "hey guys..i can't make it. the advisor called a last minute meeting and i had to go..i'm sorry"
"i'm sorry..shouldn't have jinxed it" sunghoon apologized, biting his lip as he felt bad that he mentioned it
yuna just shook her head, "it's okay. it's not your fault or his" she grinned, "he'll make time for us eventually"
she grabbed the two packets of crackers off the table and looked at them, "i'll just give these to him tomorrow"
she shoved the packets into her backpack, zipping it up afterwards. she then grabbed her airpods and placed them in her ears, continuing to do her work
sunghoon frowned upon seeing yuna's saddened mood that she hid with a grin on her face
the three became friends when they were younger and always hung out together. with that also came yuna's feelings for jake and only sunghoon knew about them since she was scared to confess.
they all liked spending time together but they haven't had much time due to jake being busy
but no matter how far apart yuna was from jake, her feelings never left and only grew deeper

Living in Paradise
The first thing I saw when I woke up was a group of people standing over me shouting "Happy Birthday!!!". Immediately after they start debating what type of world I came from and calling me 'William'. Later on I would learn that everyone here is reborn from another world and many children come with magic or superpowers or other gifts leftover from their old lives. I came from a world that was, to me, typical modernity. To them it was pretty boaring with the only thing interesting about my world being was a higher than average tech level for a non-spacefaring civilization; technology that wouldn't even work in this new world. All I brought with me was a peculiar mindset and the strong suspicion that there must be something more to life. Once everyone started to clear out my mother took me up in her arms, explained how the world works, and then stabbed me in the neck with a knife. I got better. -------------------- This story was written from the central idea of a simple question: What if a videogame like world, with all the normal video-game staples and tropes, was actually a real world? How would that work? How would people understand the universe around them? What sort of weirdness would the world appear to have from the point of view of someone who recognizes the odd nature of the place? And finally, if left to its own devices, how would this type of world ultimately develop?
