《Arranged Love (Currently Being Edited)》Chapter 26 - Paulo Confronts Rosalie

Paulo's sisters turned and saw them and ran into Paulo's arms, leaving Eva standing there looking at Rosalie awkwardly. They gave Paulo a hug and cried on his shoulder for several minutes holding onto each other. Rosalie just stood there, looking around and then her eyes met Eva's and Rosalie glared at her for a second before looking away.
Eva looked over and saw Paulo and his sisters sobbing and she started to cry too even though she hadn't gotten to know the King very well. The limited amount of time she had gotten to spend with him was usually spent fighting but she could tell by their reaction that his family really loved him.
Queen Victoria looked over and noticed Eva standing there alone, wiping the tears from her cheeks and she left the circle and walked over, giving her a hug too.
"I'm so sorry," Eva sniffled through her tears.
Queen Victoria took out a tissue and wiped her eyes and said, "Thank you Eva for making my husband's last few days on this earth happy. After you and Paulo were married he looked at me and said, 'I feel so relieved knowing Eva will be Paulo's Queen.' He had been walking around the house smiling and happy these last few days and it was so good to see him like that," she cried, as tears ran down her cheeks
Eva hugged her and rubbed her back, and she looked over and noticed Rosalie behind them with her arms crossed glaring at them. It looked like she had overheard what the Queen said and she didn't appreciate it. It was obviously a dig at her, but she deserved it for what she did to Paulo.
Finally the Queen stepped back, wiping the tears from her eyes and said, "Let's all go to the dining hall and eat. I don't feel like being alone right now."
"Sure Mom. We can do that," Paulo said, giving her a look of sympathy as he held out his elbow for her to take, escorting her towards the steps as Eva followed behind. Isadora, Bella and Rosalie followed behind her too and when they got to the dining room Paulo led his Mom over to a chair that was in front of the burning fireplace.
Paulo sat down on the seat next to his mother and Rosalie swooped in and took the seat on his other side before Eva had the chance, whispering, "Paulo I really need to talk to you. I need to explain everything."
Eva stood there, dumbstruck and started to walk around the table to sit across from him when she heard him say, "Rosalie. You need to get up so I can sit next to my wife. And there's nothing for us to talk about so save your breath. The only reason I'm even putting up with your presence here is because my sister needs you right now."
Eva felt like clapping for him but she controlled herself and just smiled. They both turned and looked in her direction, Paulo with adoration in his eyes and Rosalie with a stunned look of hatred and jealousy.

She reluctantly got up and moved to the other side of the table next to Bella and Eva slid into the seat beside Paulo. He reached over and took her hand in his and leaned in, giving her a kiss on the cheek, making her smile as her face flushed red.
"Thank you," she whispered, so softly that only he could hear her.
"You're welcome," he whispered back.
The food was served immediately and they all started eating in silence. Eva looked across the table at Princess Bella and Princess Isadora and they looked numb with their grief just like Paulo had. They ate in awkward silence for a bit before Eva heard the Queen sobbing on the other side of Paulo and that set off everyone else around the table and eventually they were all sobbing.
Queen Victoria looked over at Paulo and Eva holding hands as she wiped her tears away with a tissue.
"I'm so sorry this interrupted your special time together. If someone had interrupted your father and I in the middle of our honeymoon I know I would have been furious. You might not have existed if that happened," she said to Paulo, sniffling.
"You don't have to worry about that Mom. Right now it's about you, and us being here to help you through this okay?" Paulo told her, wrapping an arm around her shoulder.
"Ok," she nodded with a sniffle before giving him a hug.
After dinner was over Eva and Paulo walked hand in hand to his large bedroom that they would now be sharing and the movers had already filled the second walk in closet with all of her clothes and shoes and jewelry.
She sat on the end of the bed and he stood there, still wearing his swim trunks and a t-shirt with his hands in his pockets, looking down at the ground. Eva still had on her swimsuit under her t-shirt and shorts too. They never had the chance to change when they left the island because everything happened so fast.
"I can't just sit in here. I need to go for a walk and clear my head," he said, raising his hands and running them through his hair with an exhale.
"Do you want me to go with you?" she asked.
"No. I need to be alone for a bit," he said sadly and she nodded. He walked out the door, closing it behind him and she decided to get busy organizing all of her things the way she wanted them so this would feel like home. It would be something to take her mind off of everything that was going on.
When she was done with that she decided to take a bath and soak for a while and shave her legs. When she got out she put on a white silk nightgown and sat on the bed, looking over at her cell phone to see that the time was midnight. Paulo had been gone for three hours.
She was starting to get worried so she grabbed her phone and called him and she heard his ringtone coming from his luggage that was next to her on the floor of the bedroom. She sat there for a second thinking before she decided to go look for him. Maybe he was struggling and really needed her right now. She slipped a white bathrobe on over her nightgown and tied it around her waist before slipping on some white fluffy slippers and heading out into the long hallway.

As she got close to a corner she heard voices and slowed down. She tiptoed to the edge very quietly and peeked around and saw Paulo standing a few feet away talking to Rosalie. Normally she would never eavesdrop but her feet felt cemented to the spot and she couldn't force herself to walk away. Her curiosity and trust issues got the better of her and she scooted back where he couldn't see her to listen.
Rosalie was in the middle of a sentence saying, "I can't believe he's really gone. He was like a father to me."
Paulo let out an exhale and said, "I know my Dad would've wanted you here for the service. It would've meant a lot to him and I know my sister needs you right now."
"What about you Paulo?" she asked softly. "Do YOU want me to be here? I wasn't sure after what you did earlier, telling me I wasn't allowed to sit next to you so you could sit next to your wife. Ugh, I hate even calling her that," she grumbled, with a scrunched up nose.
"Really?" Paulo scoffed. "That's what she is Rosalie," he told her bluntly. "Eva's my wife and I'm her husband. I'm just glad my parents saw through your bullshit so I didn't make the biggest mistake of my life by marrying you."
She gasped and looked hurt. "I know you don't mean that Paulo. You love me and I love you. Do you have any idea how much it kills me to see you forced into marrying that BITCH just because she's a princess when we both know we're meant to be together?"
Hearing that made Eva's blood boil and it took every ounce of self control she had not to jump out from her hiding spot and tell her off right then. She couldn't though. She needed to see what he was going to say to her.
"First off," Paulo said, stepping forward and pointing his finger in her face. "Don't EVER call Eva a bitch," he said, dropping his hand. "And second, I don't love you and you sure as hell don't love me. You were just using me to get a lifelong income to support your real boyfriend. I'm not falling for your little mind games anymore Rosalie, so you can give it up," he said sternly.
She started sobbing and said, "But I do love you Paulo. With all my heart and that's the truth. I can't help how I feel. I'm in love with him. but I'm in love with you too!" she cried loudly, throwing her arms around him and smashing her lips against his.
He stepped back and pushed her away. "Stop this Rosalie," he shouted. "I don't love you and I never want to hear this kind of bullshit from you again! I know you're my sister's friend but if she wants to see you, she can go to your house from now on. I don't want you stepping foot in this house again."
He pushed her back and turned, walking away. Eva heard his footsteps approaching and she panicked, looking around. She saw a statue next to her in a little cutout section of the wall and she quickly ducked behind it before he rounded the corner and walked past.
Rosalie collapsed to the floor sobbing loudly and crying out, "PAULO! I LOVE YOU! DON'T DO THIS!"
Eva exhaled with relief when he was gone and didn't see her but she waited to make sure Rosalie was gone too before she came out of her hiding spot.
When she got back upstairs to the bedroom Paulo was standing there with wet hair like he just got out of the shower, wearing just a pair of boxer shorts and looking at her strangely.
"Where have you been?" he asked.
"I couldn't sleep so I went for a walk. How about you? Did your walk help you clear your head like you hoped?"
"Yeah. A little bit," he said, letting out an exhale. "I'm still just in shock that my Dad's gone. It doesn't seem real."
She stepped forward and wrapped her arms around his waist and laid her head against his chest, giving him a hug. He put his arms around her too and she heard him exhale deeply, letting out a sigh.
He stood there holding her for a minute, rubbing her back before he asked, "Are you ready for bed? It's been a long day."
"Yeah," she said softly, looking up at him and he leaned down and gave her a soft peck on the lips before releasing his hold on her and walking over to the bed, getting under the covers. She slipped off her bathrobe and slippers and got into bed on the other side, pulling the cord of the lamp so that they were in total darkness.
She felt his arms reach around her and pull her against him, snuggling his body close to hers and he whispered into the back of her head, "Thank you for being there for me today."
"You're welcome," she whispered back. "I'll always be here for you."
Laying there wrapped up in his arms, being held by him, and knowing that it brought him comfort to hold her made her feel good. Today had been a horrible day, one of the worst ever, but hearing him turn down Rosalie had been such a relief. She could feel herself falling in love with him and she hoped that eventually he could love her too. She closed her eyes and let out a sigh, drifting off to sleep in his arms.
