Lightning Blast: 3d6 = 11 (Electricity)
Strength of the Grave: 1d6+1 = 3 (Negative Energy)
Captain Jack surged forward, moving with the kind of quickness I rarely saw in people who weren’t me. In a breath, he was standing by the Queen’s side, plunging his rapier into her shoulder. “I suggest not letting her think. She is up to something, and I don’t care for it.”
Melinda’s Attack roll (Aerith): 1d20+28 = 43 (Hit)
Damage: 1d10+8 = 16 (Slashing) (DR 5/Cold Iron)
Ruinous: 1 CHA damage
Hellrime Hideous Blow: 12d6 = 38 (Cold) (Dead)
My wings unfurled, and carried me forward, to join in the Captain’s assault. In my hands was my trusty sword, an old friend that I kept close at hand. It was practicality that made me choose to use my magic, for the most part, rather than the blade, but with only one foe before me, I saw no reason to hesitate. The black blade of Soul’s Violation, wreathed in the icy cold of my own magics, slashed down, across the queen’s body, ignoring the armor she wore completely. The queen was dead before she even hit the ground.

Siora’s Ref Save: 1d20+23 = 40 (Success, Half Damage)
Fartooth’s Ref Save: 1d20+31 = 38 (Success, Half Damage)
Nalea’s Ref Save: 1d20+16 = 30 (Success, Half Damage)
The next instant, my world turned black, as unholy flames erupted from the queen’s corpse. They did not burn like actual flames, which was a blessing in disguise, for they burned me well enough all on their own that I was having trouble keeping my feet. When the torrent cleared, I saw that all the queen’s guards were dead, and none of us had escaped the fire. But, at the same time, my eyes went wide, for the queen had been reborn through that unholy fire, as a full-blooded succubus! And worse still, she had two balors by her side!
Vestele’s Mass Heal: 210 (Healing)
“Shit!” Vestele cursed, at the sight of the three demons facing off against them. “Blessed Malcanthet, heal us in our hour of heed!” Healing power went out in a wave, restoring the wounds of all our non-undead party members. Or, at least, the ones that were still grouped together, the wave did not reach far enough to get to me, and Vestele cursed again, moving forward as she did so.
Siora’s CL Check: 1d20+22 = 30 (Success)
Balor 2’s Will Save (Dominate Monster): 1d20+7 = 24 (Fail)
Siora, on the other hand, grinned. “Now, this is something I can do something with! Mel, I’m grabbing the one next to you!” Stepping forward to stand side by side with her sister, she targeted the Balor standing over me, and cast a spell. The next moment, the balor’s face lost its malevolence, becoming blank.
Aerith’s Tumble Check: 1d20+32 = 41 (Success)
Aerith’s CL Check: 1d20+28 = 39 (Success)
Aerith’s CL Check (Devour Magic): 1d20+20 = 34 (Success)
Devour Magic: Gain 45 temp HP
The succubus that was once queen displayed a nimbleness she had not displayed before, diving between the balor’s legs and coming up on the other side. She stroked the balor on his backside, and, at that touch, the blank look left the balor’s face, while a look of smug contentment graced hers. “Oh, no. These are my boys. You can’t have them, wench! Not now that I have ascended, with Lord Graz’zt’s favor!”

Vestele’s Will Save (Quickened Telekinesis): 1d20+37 = 58 (Success)
Siora’s Fort Save (Implosion): 1d20+16 = 29 (Success)
The balors smiled at each other. “Oh, it has been so long since we’ve gotten to play in the mortal realm, brother, but I think we might see to our defenses first,” one said, as he cast an unholy aura around the three demons in the room.
The second baloro grinned. “Indeed, brother.” He waved a hand at the twins, and I sensed a pulse of magic, but nothing happened. His grin slipped a bit, and he unleashed another effect. “Though it seems that these playthings are going to be significantly harder to break than our last ones.”
“Then we’ll just make them sorry they were ever born, brother!”
Fartooth’s Attack (Balor 2): 1d20+35 = 38 (Miss)
Fartooth’s Attack (Balor 2): 1d20+35 = 46 (Hit)

Fartooth’s Attack (Balor 2): 1d20+25 = 34 (Miss)
Balor 2’s Concentration check: 1d20+32 = 49 (Success)
Fartooth chirped unhappily, and unleashed a flurry of strikes against the balor by my side. “Focus on the balors, one at a time! Get them down as quick as you can! Then we can concentrate on the bitch in charge!” Two of the arrows bit, and made it through the demon’s protections, causing him to snarl as his attention turned to the little kobold.
Nalea’s CL Check: 1d20+22 = 41 (Success)
Balor 2’s Fort Save (Finger of Death): 1d20+9 = 16 (Fail, Dead)
Melinda’s Ref Save
Strength of the Grave: 1d6+1 = 4 (Negative Energy)
However, he should have been paying more attention to the skeletal mage. Stepping forward, she raised one hand and pointed it at the balor. “Die.” With that single word, a bolt of necrotic energy leapt from her fingertip, and struck the balor. The balor’s eyes rolled back in its head for a moment as the spell hit, before it disappeared into black smoke, returned to the Abyss.

Jack’s Attack (Balor 1): 1d20+26 = 31 (Miss)
Strength of the Grave: 1d6+1 = 5 (Negative Energy)
Jack slipped the tip of his rapier up through the balor’s defenses with a practiced flair, hitting him once in the flank, and the second time in the groin. While it did not do nearly as much damage to the demon as it ought, the pain was enough that the balor’s rage was focused solely and completely upon the swashbuckling skeleton. “Go on and take care of the queenie, lass. We’ll keep her pet demon company.”
Melinda’s CL Check: 1d20+24 = 36 (Success)

Aerith’s Fort Save: 1d20+12 = 27 (Fail, 2 Negative Levels)
“Right!” There wasn’t anything else to say. Jack and I were the best ones to keep the demons occupied, and we were already engaged with our targets. It only made sense.
Darting forward, I wreathed the shadowy blade in further blackness, and slashed at the demoness. My blade struck true, slashing her across the belly, and striking deep. More importantly, my ability struck true, her scream of pain music to the ears. “When I’m done with you, bitch, you’re going to be so ugly that even the blind men wouldn’t touch you with a ten-foot pole.”
Vestele’s Heal (Melinda): 150 Healing
Vestele flew up behind me, and touched my wing. “And let her run back to Graz’zt, knowing that it was the servants of Malcanthet and Auril who shamed her.” As she spoke, healing power went through me, taking care of all my wounds.
Siora’s Spell Turning: 1d4+6 = 7 Spell Levels
Siora grinned as she uttered a spell under her breath. “These demons think that they are so tough. But I bet their master will be quite displeased with them when they get hurled into the Abyss. At least the first one got sent back before he could really be shamed.”
Aerith’s Concentration check: 1d20+16 = 31 (Success)
Melinda’s Fort Save (Word of Changing): 1d20+31 = 33 (Success)
Melinda’s AoO (Aerith): 1d20+27 = 45 (Miss)
The queen snarled, “Peasants! Damned swine in service to a trumped up harlot with airs not fitting her station! I’ll feast on your flesh as I offer your souls to the Lord!” As she spoke, she hit me with some magic, but it did nothing. She ran, sheltering behind the other balor’s bulk, and my blade simply slipped off her magical protections, refusing to bite.

Fartooth’s Ref Save: 1d20+31 = 43 (Success, Half Damage)
The remaining balor snarled. “Impudent whelp! Allow me to teach you some respect! BURN!” And, with a wave of his hand, a firestrorm descended upon the throne room, burning all of us, save for Nalea, who looked untouched.
Fartooth’s Attack (Balor 2): 1d20+35 = 44 (Hit)

Fartooth’s Attack (Balor 2): 1d20+25 = 31 (Miss)
The little kobold did not even flinch at the flames. Instead, he simply sent another volley of arrows at the demon. Two of the arrows hit, neither one doing much in the way of damage, but each one added on to the wounds the demon had already received, and chipped away at his vitality. They could do this!
Nalea’s CL Check: 1d20+22 = 28 (Success)
Nalea’s Attack roll (Balor 1): 1d20+14 = 30 (Touch) (Hit)
Polar Ray: 22d6 = 76 (Cold) (Cold Resistance 10)
Strength of the Grave: 1d6+1 = 6 (Negative Energy)
Again, the undead mage held up a hand, and unleashed a beam of icy cold. This time, she chose an easier target, for the balor’s size worked against him. The ray struck true, and the balor roared in anger at the injury done to him.
Jack’s Attack (Balor 1): 1d20+41 = 55 (Hit)
Damage: 1d6+15 = 20 (Piercing) (DR 15/Cold Iron and Good)

Captain Jack stabbed forward with his rapier again, scoring two scratches with the tip of the blade, before once more aiming at the demon’s vitals, this time slipping the blade up, and just between the balor’s ribs. “Come now, big and ugly. Ye ain’t got time for spellwork, not while’s I’m ticklin’ yer ribs like this. Or mayhaps you like it? You one of those types, hmm?”
Balor’s AoO (Melinda): 1d20+31 = 33 (Miss)
Melinda’s Concentration check: 1d20+36 = 53 (Success)
Melinda’s CL Check: 1d20+24 = 30 (Success)

Aerith’s Ref Save: 1d20+11 = 21 (Fail)
Aerith’s Fort Save: 1d20+10 = 22 (Fail, 2 Negative Levels)
Moving quickly, I followed the Queen, ducking under a sweep of the balor’s longsword as I did so. “Running away already? But weren’t you the one who was looking down on us ‘peasants’? You were so proud of becoming a demon, weren’t you? Where has all that confidence gone?” As I spoke, I unleashed a burst of negative energy, striking all those around me, including the Captain. But it was negative energy, so I knew it would heal him. The other two, however, were only going to suffer more from the side effects.
Vestele’s CL Check: 1d20+21 = 33 (Success)
Aerith’s Fort Save (Implosion): 1d20+8 = 16 (Fail, Dead)
Vestele chuckled. “She realized the truth about your aura, sweetie. Realized that it left her vulnerable, and that her master’s gifts were not as potent as she was led to believe!” And then, with an invocation of power, she unleashed a spell upon the queen. The next instant, the queen’s flesh collapsed in on itself, leaving a sickening ball of flesh behind, as her armor and weapons fell about what was left of her corpse. At the same time, the balor, his summoner gone, disappeared in a burst of black smoke.
We had won.

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)
