Fenrir
"Oh yeah, I almost forgot," Dawn says before I can get very far in my digging.
I stop digging for a second to ask, "What?"
"Well, there are more benefits to reaching CL 4 than just being able to make a fifth floor," Dawn says, catching my interest.
"Oh?" I ask, prompting her to elaborate.
Before Dawn can respond, a few orbs of EXP reaches my core.
I guess Leo killed some of those intruders.
"Now that you are both CL and EL 4, I am able to leave the dungeon for a brief amount of time! I am also able to teleport throughout the dungeon," Dawn explains with some enthusiasm.
Interesting.
"Then would you be able to gather some useful items from outside of the dungeon?" I ask Dawn with some anticipation.
Dawn turns purple with pride as she says, "Yep!"
That could be useful.
I might even be able to get some better equipment for my monsters! Not to mention new resources to use in my traps!
"Would you mind going out from time to time to look for some better metals and equipment? Maybe some poisons as well?" I ask Dawn.
"Sure!" Dawn says with excitement.
Is she happy to help me, or does she just want to see the outside of the dungeon?
Well, either way.
Dawn suddenly teleports to the entrance and tells me, "I am going to leave the dungeon now to check out the outside! See you later!"
She then quickly rushes out the dungeon entrance while glowing bright red.
I hope she is careful and stays out of sight...
No use worrying about that now.
I might as well go back to work digging out the fifth floor.

Two weeks and three days after the orb was stolen.

I am interrupted from my cultivation by a knock on the office door.
Who could that be?
I reach over to my desk and grab my helmet.
"Come in," I say after I finish putting my helmet on.
'Status.'
Name: Leon Raizel
Race: Human/Elf Hybrid
Element: Lightning
EXP Level: 6
EXP: 34/60
Cultivation Level: 4
Cultivation to next Level: 62%
Mana: 50/50
Secondary Tabs: Skills List, Talents List, Achievements List
That orb was really helpful.
Maybe I should pay Luke a visit sometime soon for another orb?
I do have the WC to afford it after all.
My office door opens, revealing Aidan with a stressed look on his face.
What's up with him?
Aidan steps inside and closes the door behind him before he says, "We need walls."
I tilt my head in confusion.
"Walls?" I ask, unsure of what he means.
"Yes, walls," Aidan says before elaborating, "We need to build walls around the city."
City walls?
I was originally going to wait a little bit for walls since we aren't on bad terms with anyone as of right now.
Plus, there aren't any Spawn nearby, aside from the Spawn above the cliffs on the border of the Lost Mountains.
Aidan sighs and says, "I can tell what you are thinking, but walls are not just for defense. We need walls for a more organized entry into the city, as well a way to keep any criminals from easily escaping the city."
Oh.
That makes sense.
"In that case, we should commission the Crafting Guild to start work on a wall," I tell Aidan.
Aidan relaxes and opens his mouth to say something, only to be interrupted by a knock on my office door.
I share a look with Aidan before calling out, "Come in."

My office door opens and a man wearing light armor walks in.
The man gives me a small bow as he says, "I apologize for interrupting you, but I was sent by the Guildmaster of the Mercenaries Guild to tell you that the Orc delegates have arrived."
I glance at Aidan in surprise, only to see him shrug.
"Alright, thank you for telling me. Where are the delegates right now?" I ask the mercenary.
The man looks nervous as he says, "Well, they are currently at the Guildmaster's office."
I stand up from my chair and walk around my desk while saying, "Alright, tell the Guildmaster that I am heading over there to meet them."
The mercenary gives another short bow before leaving my office.
Before I leave my office to head towards the Guild, I turn towards Aidan and say, "I really should hire some attendants and servants to work under me. I don't like that I had to be told by the Guildmaster that the delegates arrived in my city."
"Yeah, that's probably a good idea," Aidan says with a tired look on his face.
A wall would also help with that issue.
I turn to leave my office.
Time to meet these Orcs.
I open the door to the Guildmaster's office to find several large creatures with green skin and fangs spread out throughout the office.
So, these are Orcs?
Interesting.
Everyone within the room turns to us the instant I open the door.
The Orcs immediately begin sneering the moment they see Aidan.
That's to be expected, I guess.
Demonic races tend to look down on any Tier 1 angelic race member they see.
They then start sniffing at the air before turning to me with a surprised look on their faces.
Shit!
I forgot that a lot of Demonic races have better senses than Angelic races, so these Orcs might be able to tell that I am a Hybrid just from my scent!
I subtly shake my head in the hopes that they understand.
Luckily, the Orc's leader seems to realize my situation after glancing at Aidan and the Guild messenger behind me.
"You must be the City Lord of this place," the leader says in a rough tone.
He proceeds to look me from head to toe before saying, "Alright, I can work with you. Do we have somewhere else that we can talk?"
I nod my head and say, "Yes. We can meet in my office."
The office I just came from...
The Orc leader nods his head and gets up from his seat.
It's a good thing that Demonic races tend to respect Hybrids, even if they are Hybrids of two Angelic races.
I wonder how this conversation would have gone if I wasn't a Hybrid?
Anyways, I leave the office with the Orcs following closely behind me, completely ignoring the confused looks sent my way by the Guildmaster, Aidan, and the messenger.

The Core of a Factory
An abandoned steampunk arms factory, in the middle of a conflict torn former state of the Empire it served, gains a soul. This transforms it into a Lord, capable of turning land into power. Beset by enemies on all sides it must figure out how to win the war its creators lost a century ago. This is a progressive Dungeon Core novel (which is to say the core will progress and expand in scale, eventually) across multiple dimensions with different characteristics (e.g. steampunk, magic, mythological). It has rationalist leanings (paragraphs of reasoning) and litrpg leanings (there are stat blocks). The core game mechanical idea is something like "what if different flavors of magic power actually did come from controlling land" and then the story is: "what if there was a flavorless (artifact deck) dungeon core". Chapters will be relatively short (my aim is that in three column format each would fit on a wide screen monitor), the first few chapters - setting up the main character and mechanics - are currently the longest in the entire series. I write chapters in blocks, and then release them one a weekday (M-F; 6 PM GMT, unless RoyalRoad's publish thing screws up) until I run out. There may be a few days of gaps here and there if someone finds an egregious error I have to re-write around or if I am behind. In general though one can read this once a weekend. I may do slight retconns and edits, I'll make sure to put it in an authors note if I do.
