《The Dragon of Dreams》Chapter 112: My Sister

Mid Afternoon - Late Fall : Home
As soon as I felt the suction of mana through the doors, I knew what was happening.
It was Krystallo getting ready to wake up from her dragon sleep. -Its a month or two early though..-
It had been close to 7 months, but we expected it to at least be 8 or 9. -Haah.. it should be nothing serious hopefully..- I slowly sat up, feeling the mana blow by me.
*Thud*
Father came down from his sleeping spot on the mountain and landed in front of me. "Are you not going to go see your sister wake up?"
"I just don't want my aura messing something up so I'm waiting until she finishes the mana suction."
"Ah, alright.. Well be sure to come in when it stops. I'm sure she'll want to see you." Father quickly ran over to the door and went inside.
A warm smile came to my face as I thought back to the memories I had with Krystallo.
Not long after that, the suction finally stopped and I got up and walked in.
As soon as I walked in though, I heard Krystallo's voice in a panic. "Mom! Where's Brother?!"
"He's right outside.." Mother looked up and saw me in the hall, looking at me with worried eyes.
Seeing her look down the hall, Krystallo followed Mother’s eyes and locked onto me.
"Brother!!" She came charging down the hall before she jumped up and clung to my chest. She had grown to around 13 meters now and looked a little more mature but still looked like a kid.
"Its good to see you're awake.." I pulled up my hand and rubbed her head some.
"I don't like that black haired sister!"
I looked down at her in confusion. "Who?"
"I talked to a pretty, black haired sister in my dream and she said you two were close." Krystallo looked at me with an immature pout.

It was a cute scene, but what she said made the air around me freeze. "Don't believe anything she said. She didn't do anything to you did she?"
"N..no, we just talked for a while."
-Thank the heavens..- I let out a sigh of relief. -If she dares to touch Krystallo I'll kill her..- "What did you guys talk about?"
She looked up at me in surprise before looking away like she was embarrassed. "I can't say.."
"Why?"
"I promised not to tell you.." She looked up to check if I was mad before adding something. "Just know that I don't like her.." As she said it, she gave another pout.
-No.. it can't be right?- "You aren't jealous of her for something right?"
Her face immediately reddened. "Of course not!"
I was truly at a loss for words. It was as if my mind just froze.
I looked up and down the hall at Mother and Father, both of them were at a loss too.
"Haah.." -What did they talk about that would possibly make her jealous..- "Whatever.. it's good that you're awake and seem alright.." I pulled her off of me and gave her a light hug.
"Ahem.." Father was down the hall looking like he was expecting something.
Krystallo immediately let go of me and dashed down the hall into Mothers arms. "Sorry I didn't give you a hug first, Mom"
I looked over at Father and saw a slightly defeated look on his face.
"Haha, it's alright, I hope you'll tell me about this woman Vasilias seems to know about." She looked at me with a smug look.
Seeing where the conversation was going, I quickly changed the subject. "So, Krystallo. What kind of attribute nodes do you have?"
"Hm?" She slowly pulled away from Mother. "How do I check that?"
Like a lightbulb went off above Fathers head, he chimed in. "If you look inside yourself, you should feel a ball of energy in your chest, you should also feel a mist like energy coming from it. Try to control that mist and use it to look inside yourself."

Krystallo stared at him blankly. "O..okay.." She slowly sat down and closed her eyes.
Both Mother and Father watched her intently.
"Woahh.. this fog stuff is cool!"
Both Mother and Fathers expressions immediately filled with excitement as they silently cheered.
"So what do I look for? What are attribute nodes?"
-Oh boy.. this is gonna take a while..- "Attribute nodes are-"
"Just blow that fog through your body and see where the fog gets sucked into a small sphere."
"I have 4!"
Mother and Father secretly cheered again. "So where are they?"
"Um.. 2 are right next to this weird thingy in my throat and the other 2 are a bit farther away."
"That ‘weird thingy’ is your breath gland, sweetie." Mother looked at Krystallo with a proud smile.
Krystallo immediately looked at me with a gleam in her eyes. "Does that mean I can do what Brother did now?" (Reference to Chapter 23)
*Bonk*
Mother lightly hit her on the head. "Absolutely not.."
Krystallo rubbed her head with a saddened expression. "Why not?"
"Vasilias is a freak of nature so if you tried to mimic something crazy he's done.. it likely wouldn't end well.."
Krystallo gave me a sad look but I saw an opportunity. "How about I teach you when you get stronger?"
She instantly looked back up at me with hopeful eyes before looking back at Mother. "Can you teach me to be stronger Mom?"
Mother looked at Krystallo in surprise before shifting to a warm smile. "Sure sweetie."
Krystallo looked up at her with a familiar gleam in her eye. "Can we start now?"
-Like Mother.. like daughter..- A warm smile came to my face as I saw the striking resemblance.
After that, Mother ended up giving Krystallo a short, child friendly lesson about mana and aura.
As they started walking outside to let Krystallo have some hands-on practice with magic, I walked up to Mother. "What's with the difference between teaching styles?" I gave her a sarcastic smile.
"Well, not long after I taught you everything, your Father and I had a long talk where we realized just how abnormal the way we taught you was. Some dragons can't even control their mana the day they wake up, let alone immediately control a ton of aura and make complex spells."
-Ah, so that's why they looked so excited when Krystallo had a little control over her aura..-
"The way we taught you was very gung ho and we didn't even explain half of the things we should have.. Most dragons don't even know what their breath gland is at first, but you caught on quickly without even asking."
"Haha, most of it was self-explanatory for me, but I think the more slow and.. child friendly approach will be better for Krystallo."
Mother gave me a surprised look. "You really paid attention to all of that?"
"Of course I did! I wouldn't dare miss my cute sister's first moments with magic." I also wanted to see what was normal for dragons in terms of control and magic but that was just a bonus on top of seeing my sister clumsily throw around magic.
Mother gave me her familiar Motherly smile. "I think she'll catch on pretty quickly. She seems to have a good grasp on what we've talked about so far at least."
I looked up at Krystallo as she ran down the hall with a joyous trot. "If she’s anything like you, I'm sure she'll catch on quickly."

Fallout: Vault X
An original novel set in the Fallout universe, written to be accessible to all, featuring unique people and places. Vol.II. out now Fallout: Vault X tells the story of John. A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes
