《Endless River (Isekai LitRPG)》Chapter 9 - Peak Abyssinian Warthog

I had a bold idea!
However, after assessing the risk, it was too high so I dropped it.
I thought of going down to eat the body then when I want to come back up I'd start screaming for the Mama bird to pick me up.
However, what if she doesn't understand what I'm trying to say? Or worse, what if I get attacked? Or break something on the way down?
Sigh... forget it!
I came back to the nest looking dejected, I found a warm spot and sat down to cultivate.
The system also made me feel awkward, that feeling of not knowing whether you should strike up a conversation or not.
But, I was just thinking too much.
I was a magical eagle and I was still awkward, damn it.
I remembered something I wanted to ask the system before.
'System can I make modifications to the system panel?'
[Yes. What do you want to change?]
'Noice! Can you change the numbers beside the skills that represent proficiency and just use the word? Perfection instead of 5/5?'
[Alright, it's done.]
'Another thing, I'm tired of calculating my Agility every time can you maybe put my Stats then besides them in the () the boost from the +150%, then next to them the Agility I gain when certain conditions are met?'
[Like this?]
[Sky Dash(Active): Grants +30% Agility for 15 seconds while above ground. Cost(30MP) |Intermediate|]
[WindBlade(Active): Creates a magical wind blade that has a range of 100 meters, Deals Intelligence(x2) in damage. Cost(20MP) |Advanced|]

Agility: 34(51), Dark: +6, Nearby Enemy: +6, Sky Dash: +10.
Even better!
'Yes. Perfect, Thanks!'
Dark represented the Bird of Darkness's condition to be in the dark. Nearby Enemy is Zephyr Child's condition 100 meters and finally Sky Dash.
I opened my eyes and looked around in the nest, everyone was either cultivating or sleeping.

I glanced beyond the nest and could not help but shiver, the silence was daunting. I hurriedly closed my eyes and continued cultivating
...
[+1 Strength]
I had been cultivating non stop, but I could not continue, I was very restless and I accidently kept on breaking my cultivation.
As the night darkened, it made people feel like an evil monster slowly waking up from its slumber.
It was stressing me out!
Where are the insects? I'd kill for cricket sounds right now, I had always liked the noises they made.
Whatever, I should just continue cultivating...
[+1 Stamina]
*Crunch*
As I was cultivating, I heard some crunching noises. When I opened my eyes, I saw that the Mama bird began moving.
She stood at the edge of the nest and then dove down at a crazy speed.
You could not hear the sound of her flight or anything like that, the moment she removed her legs from all the bones lying around, she became like a ninja.
*Swoosh*
I heard a faint whoosh, it was a sound I was all too familiar with.
Wind Blades!
I stretched out my senses to the limit to see if I could sense what was happening.
Nothing, she was outside of my Spirit range.
Just as I was going to jump on the edge of the nest to take a look. She came back!
Carrying in her claws a pretty big snake, bigger than the one I killed last time!
One more notable difference between the two snakes was the color, the last one had a bit of a darkish brown to it.
This one was black but had a red belly.
She dropped the snake in front of us and closed her eyes again.
How sweet! It was good to be a baby, you could just lay around and wait to be fed... that was the life.
I hurriedly went to the snake and checked it out.

]
Damn, that was one scary monster.
However, should I eat it? This one definitely had poison, was I resistant to poison? The Mama bird did not seem to care, she probably ate a couple of these before, right?

As I was contemplating whether to eat her or not, Kali already started!
It was fine, probably.
I cut the body in half and started eating my share.
I discovered something and I did not know how I should feel about it...
This snake was too damn delicious, my god!
Even the blood... No, especially the blood!
I used to hate the blood when eating monsters. It was sticky, lumpy and smelled bad which just messed up my taste buds.
Yet! This one was a real delicacy, the blood was sweet, fragrant, and went so well with the rest of the meat.
This train of thoughts was too dangerous, I will start craving eating monsters at this rate!
As I was reveling from the taste of this godly delicacy... I meant as I was eating this ugly monster through sheer fucking will.
I heard clottering noises coming southwest.
The sound of hooves on the ground was getting louder and louder, signifying that whoever was making that noise wa headed in our direction.
The Mama bird seemed to have heard it long ago because before I even heard it I saw her head perked up.
I jumped out of the nest and went to find a good hiding spot, I easily climbed up the branches and hid. The branches could easily help you climb but if there were none you're doomed.
That was why I couldn't eat the body of the Mandrill on the ground, I could not climb without branches.
I just realized something, the Mama bird doesn't seem to be dumb. She was intelligent to a certain extent, would she hate me or look down on me for leaving them and hiding like this?
That was not entirely impossible. Should I go back?
As I was thinking that, a shape was starting to take form and it was growing in size by the second.
Just after a couple of seconds, I could tell what it was.
A giant warthog-looking monster! It was several meters tall, around two and a half maybe and more than 6 meters long!
That was easily a moving tank not a monster.
It was completely dark gray except for the hair on the top of its head and back were black. However, the first thing that anyone would notice when they first lay their eyes on this big monstrosity were its Tusks.
Long, thick, and silver-looking tusks. Like those of the famed mammoth, they were simply glorious!
Another difference was its temperament. The warthogs I was familiar with gave off the impression of being silly and goofy at first glance. However, this creature was anything but that!
It looked angry, vicious, and unyielding.
I hastily used appraisal on it.

Weakness: Low spiritual resistance.
]
What a strong monster!
I could not imagine how hard it was to kill this monster, even more so when you take into consideration the fact that it'd probably have mostly defensive skills.
The ground seemed to shake when this big guy was stomping on it.
It quickly arrived near us, then it continued running without giving us a single glance.
A Peak monster such as this one could easily sense us, me, and Kali to be specific.
I looked at the Mama bird to see her reaction, and she wasn't even looking at the warthog.
She was looking at the place from where it came from.
Oh no! Suddenly I had a terrible feeling, the last time she heard the warthog way before I did.
Which could only mean one thing!
A stronger foe or maybe even several are coming, if even this giant tank ran away one could only imagine what was chasing it!
Holy shit! Not good.
I hated feeling this helpless, I needed my freaking wings!!
There was nothing I could do now, only hope that the Mama bird could handle it.
I squinted my eyes, lowered my head, and held on tight to my wings, in an effort to decrease my size and hide the golden glow in my eyes.
Following the direction the Mama bird was looking at, I started seeing some figures approaching.
There were dozens of them if not a hundred!!
After a while, I could make up the shape of who was coming.
The Moment I saw them my heart sank.

A Titan's Crusade
Erik Thayne spent most of his life being brutally ridiculed and tormented for his weight and physical appearance, among other things. A social pariah and diagnosed with an eating disorder no one has an explanation or treatment for, Erik spent years trying to overcome his issues with his personal image and escape the ridicule and vicious torment of his peers. After years of dedicated effort, and a fresh start in a town away from his childhood and adolescent tormentors, he had finally begun to truly realize what he'd been striving for all along. Only, fate apparently has other plans because in the blink of an eye, Erik found himself snatched from Earth and taken to another universe, another world, where he is offered the chance to be more than he'd ever imagined. Now, he has to fight to restore the Balance between Chaos and Order on a world of swords and magic, in a universe governed by the System's laws, which resemble those of RPGs from Earth. Erik learned to embrace the things about himself that others taught him to hate, using them to reforge his physical identity into something more removed from his old self-loathing. But can he learn to embrace the darkest parts of his mind just as he did the reviled aspects of his body and become who he needs to be to succeed in the task set before him? It might just prove easier to stalk in the dark as a monster than to walk in the light as a man... *This is my first time publishing anything I've written to a public audience. Due to formatting issues, I forwent traditional stat-screens for something a little less problematic, delineating stat screens by separating them from regular text with horizontal lines in a lighter-grey coloration. Let me know if you like them or not. Criticism is entirely welcome, but please don't hate on my work after only reading 1 chapter. This is a writing project I intend to complete but I have committment problems so we'll see how long this goes on. Also, fair warning, as the description implies, the main protagonist is intended to be someone who has been treated cruelly, developed antisocial tendencies, and ultimately has to question his own humanity--or lack thereof. This story is not intended to be brutally dark but I will definitely be trying to follow a darker theme. It is intended to be violent and some scenes later in the story might be...alarming. There will likely also be some light, non-graphic (think more implied with crude jokes and conversation than actual details, there will be no full-blown sex scenes)relationship scenes planned later and if you're opposed to either a bisexual or gay main character, stay away. I haven't yet decided which way he's going to swing but the odds on him being straight are relatively miniscule, and I've always wanted to write a story about a gay man who basically looks like a lumberjack because who doesn't like giving conventional stereo-types the middle finger? This will NOT be a harem story, and I have no intention to focus on romance over action--it's a consequence of character development where I'm concerned, not the be-all-end-all of the story. The cover-art does not, in any way, belong to me. It was an image titled the Druid King (by duskanmarkovic according to the file name) which I found on Google Images. Until I can get something commissioned, this is the best stand-in image I could find.

The Book of Rune
If you like moderately well-researched semi-medieval military logistics with some fantasy twists, and also conspiracy, and exploration, and violence, and maybe a dash of road movie, hey, Ruen just might be your thing. Plot-wise, basically there's a guy who got fired by Death, a kid with pyrotechnic tendencies, and a slave general who wouldn't mind retiring but ended up on a mass suicide mission. If you were looking for a less TL;DR version, a guy who got fired by Death meets a kid with pyrotechnic tendencies, and they try to get the guy un-fired while also trying to come to terms with death together (ooohhhh, look, I'm deep). Meanwhile a slave general does something stupid and ends up being sent on a suicide mission, and he tries to wreak havoc and save lives at the same time. The threads come together, I swear. This is a rough draft of a fantasy semi-book that I've had in the back of my head for some time. I've written a variety of short stories set in the world over the past three years, and I finally kicked myself into writing the actual story. Very much a slow work in progress. Occasional violence (okay, well, maybe more than occasional), occasional foul language.

The Sleeping Immortal
It's my first time writing, I'm going to try a mix up of LitRPG and Wuxia. God killed me while I was sleeping, and now I have the power to become a God myself just by well... sleeping. Ironic isn't it? Let's say it came as a surprise when I, Fiend Yuki, got killed by God. God, not wanting me to die as easily next time, reincarnated me with OP sleeping powers. Before this, I was just your average bum living in my parent's basement, sleeping and doing general otaku things. Now I have to worry about getting killed by Gods, kinda came full circle didn't it? Or I could just sleep and worry about it later... Yeah, I'll just sleep... Sleep sounds good. Yeah, it was until I woke up and found out I've become a toothpick and personal claw sharper of the world's strongest dragon while I was sleeping... I don't like being awake...
