《Endless River (Isekai LitRPG)》Chapter 35 - Cai Yi

The curly-haired girl dropped to her knees with tears falling like a river. "Cai Yi...", she said with a quivering voice.
I took out one dark red healing pill and put it in her hands, "Give it to her" I said looking down at her and I gently nudged her with my wing.
This pill seemed to be of even higher quality than the pink one, the bandit leader was rich he had all kinds of stuff in his inventory.
I could've just directly given it to the unconscious woman called Cai Yi, but I wanted the curly-haired girl to do it herself. If she stayed like this she'd just put more energy into her thoughts and grow more miserable, afraid, and sorrowful, but if she moved at least she'd pay attention to giving her the pill and make sure Cai Yi was okay. I thought that feeling useful is something that would help her a bit after enduring all of that humiliation and torture.
She looked at me teary-eyed and nodded. She sat down beside her, gently held her head, and put it on her thighs then she opened her mouth and gave her the pill.
The pill was magical and it showed its effects very quickly. The wounds on her scalp, neck, and face started closing at a visible speed.
After a while, her eyelids started gently quivering then she opened her eyes.
The first thing she locked her blue eyes on was me. She didn't seem too scared just a bit surprised, turning around she looked at the curly-haired woman who was helping her and said with a still sleepy voice "Jia.. w-what are you doing here..?"
Jia was crying and could barely voice out "They're all dead. You're safe now okay?"
Cai Yi looked around the roof of the room for a while, her eyes started slowly closing in and she slept.
By now, all of her wounds were closed. However, her face was covered in terrifying scars and her head was still bald in several areas.
The pill couldn't close scars nor re-grow her hair, there should be an even more precious pill for that.
I grabbed one black robe with a hoodie and gave it to Jia, I thought she might want the hoodie. I doubt she'd be okay with letting people see her at her most vulnerable darkest moment, there is the chance that she could own it in a way, and use it as fuel. Still, people are different and we react to the same things differently, I only gave her an option. "Help her wear the robe" is what I said to her.
"Mm", she nodded and proceeded to open the robe and help her friend, I think. I don't know what's their relationship.
After she finished, I controlled my mana and carried her, I was just going to put her in the bed, but then I thought, what a stupid idea. She must be so traumatized from the bed and the room. What if she woke up and thought everything was but a dream and fell into despair once again, she might even kill herself if there was no one to supervise her. She would be able to, the slave imprints are long gone due to the death of their caster.

"I don't think It's a good idea to leave her in this room, let's bring her outside," I told Jia to follow me and brought her outside of the room.
"Yes that's a good idea.", after thinking for a while she said. "Are you sure you're not human? You're way intelligent for a low Foundation Establishment Umbra Storm Eagle, and the fact that you knew women wouldn't appreciate being naked in front of others is also strange."
I could tell her that I'm a human but my soul was put into an eagle egg, it doesn't sound that far-fetched in this world. However, this wasn't something I was ready for.
I unknowingly started using this new body of mine as a mask. I'm strong, majestic, and confident and I'm not bound by certain social expectations among humans.
"Before I attacked, I was watching for a while, waiting for the perfect opportunity to attack and I observed that none of you like when your clothes are taken off," I said after thinking of a good excuse, completely ignoring the first question.
Looking at her, I think she seemed to have bought it.
"Here take those, go to where the other women are, and comfort them Ok? You don't have to worry there is nobody left alive but us. I will be right back" I gave her eight robes and reassured her that I would return.
"Wait! Are you sure? There are a lot of monsters on these parts? Where are you going?" she uttered in a panicked voice.
"I will just go hunt something for you to eat, Don't worry.", After I said that, I quickly removed the bodies of the four leaders from the grill.
I hope they didn't see the bodies there, I had not even considered the food part.
I looked at the grill and noticed that it was covered with their blood, yikes what a tricky situation this is. I looked around in my new rich inventory for a grill but I found none.
I'll tell them to clean it up afterward, if they ask why I will just mention some stupid reason. Ignorance is bliss in this situation.
Hmm.. though I do feel like I'm playing some twisted psychological game here, they might eat food that is mildly covered with their captor's blood.
Why do I feel weird, there will be no actual negative effect on them, they will only be impacted psychologically if they knew who's blood it was, and seeing that I won't tell them everyone would be happy.
After I flew for a distance I came back and put the bodies by the gate, putting a big distance between the grill in the middle of the camp and the gate.
The Mama bird had already gone back to the nest, I shooed her away before I attacked the camp. Poor birdie.
Thanks to my map I finished the task quickly, I brought one High-rank horse-looking monster with antlers and two Mid regular looking warthogs.
Jia was still talking and comforting the other women, some of them were already out and had their black robes on.

Some were smiling and looked hopeful, while others looked as if they didn't care whether they lived or died at all...
Sigh.. looking at their expressions. I only knew that it must've been difficult, but I can't imagine what they went and currently going through. People are different, some things affect some more than others.
Seeing me rushing in their direction they started getting restless, but I could tell they were previously made aware of my existence. Still, it doesn't change the fact that I'm scary to them.
*Thud* *Thud*
I dropped the bodies by the grill and sat down close to it, I was trying to appear harmless and docile though my appearance was anything but that.
Seeing them still afraid and uncomfortable I moved away. I could understand them a bit, as someone afraid of dogs, I hated when people just brought their unleashed dogs and made things very difficult for me.
Did I just compare myself to a dog? Fuck! Just a while ago I was told I was a pet now I called myself a dog. If this keeps on going I might as well just start believing it.
Wait! That's not that far-fetched really, what if I met a beast tamer who wanted to tame me? And he succeeded? I would become someone's slave and risk my life for them.
I should be careful of those beast tamers, technically for me, they are slavers. This doesn't sound right, what is the name of someone who enslaves other people slaver? Enslaver? Slave master?... Alright beast tamer, why make a new word if there is already one.
I was sitting above the watch tower, which was positioned on the north side of the camp, looking in the direction of the forest.
After a while, I saw Jia walking out of a hut with the last woman who appeared to be heavily crying.
They hugged for a while, then she helped her sit beside the other women who were by now sitting by the grill, that's when she noticed the three monsters.
She looked around only to see me above the watch tower which surprised her, she quickly arrived beneath it and looked up at me saying, "That was fast! and What are you doing there?"
"They've been through enough, they need to relax and maybe have a good night of sleep. They won't be able to have any of those if I was there.", I said looking down at her from above. I couldn't help but pat myself on the back for being so considerate.
*Swoosh*
I then jumped down and landed beside her. Meeting humans for the very first time brought up a lot of emotions to the surface for me as well. But I feel comfortable with this one, she seemed to be carefree and easygoing in a way.
After looking at her for a while I said, "Your name is Jia right?"
"Yes! Do you have a name?" she asked with a strange smile.
"Zed," I said, then I continued "How can you smile that easily? Did what happened to you not affect or are you just too strong?" even though I was very well aware that some people might want to cope by completely ignoring it until they're ready I couldn't help but ask. Although I saw her crying a couple of times, her smile seems so genuine and not one forced to appease others.
She fell silent.
"I'm sorry, if you don't want to talk about it it's perfectly normal, it's not my place to ask those questions", I said apologetically.
"It's okay, I was just thinking of why myself. I think it's because I had a good father, he showed me the depth people can reach in terms of personality, maturity, honor, and many other things.
Those bandits, I have no respect for them. I know no one has any respect for them, but.." She went quiet for a while thinking of how to word it may be, then she continued "What they did was indeed very humiliating and soul-crushing, but I didn't internalize much of it. I was sad that I was not able to help anybody and afraid of death plus the physical pain that I went through.
I really don't know how to put it into words really but it just that I had no respect for them, I felt that it was somewhat beneath me to be affected by them"
Hearing her answer I was shocked, I didn't expect it at all. It seemed strange and very unorthodox, but I could actually understand a bit of what she was saying. I asked, "When you say, you had no respect for them. Do you mean that somehow you saw their actions as only a reflection of themselves and they do not reflect your character in any way? It was just unfortunate for you to be in the wrong place at the wrong time? Something like that?"
Her eyes turned bright, "Yess! It's actually like that", but then her eyes lost a bit of their color she sighed and said "Still, even with all of those reasons, it was still a very dreadful experience. I was only able to keep going thanks to my father, I just couldn't let some low-life scum take away something he sacrificed his life for my life.
I suppose everyone has their bottom line in life, mine, fortunately, happened to be life in general, so I had the strength and was able to endure as long as I was still alive." She looked at the unconscious Cai Yi with tears welling up in her eyes and continued "Unfortunately for Cai Yi, her bottom line was her brother and he was taken away. She fought very hard when she was able to, but when she could no longer fight, there was no reason to go on... poor girl"
