《Refining the Heavens》Chapter 57: Calculus must die!

After seeing the magic barrier disappearing, Luciette immediately followed up with a devastating strike of her own with her now brightly glowing rapier.
As the heir of White Snow clan, her weapon is an expensive high-grade runic weapon, and she aimed it at the fatal point between the eyebrows of the Orc King. Should she succeed, even the powerful regeneration of the beast could not help it.
But at this timely moment, something unexpected happened. Even as Jones is rushing back to the site, Luciette is following through with her attack and Kairos and team are once again deploying the Northern Swords formation, Calculus struck at Edward!
He had known that Edward is Kairos’ archer, and who doesn’t know that archers are weakest in close range.
In his heart, the person he hates to most now is not Jones who had stolen his limelight, but Kairos who had shamed him twice and even made him nearly bald!
What better way is there to revenge than to take away the people that Kairos holds dearest?
In fact, this had always been Calculus’ modus operandi.
In the first place, the reason he had ambushed Kairos with bare blades was that he thought he could see Jones’ unsightly despairing face. Of course, after that, he will deal with the young sword master directly; the gel pouch which he used to contain the purple blood from the Orc’s hatchery was initially prepared for finishing him off without being directly involved. Although, in the end, it was used against Kairos instead.
And right now, attacking Edward was no different. He used an unscrupulous attack on the archer from a hidden angle, certain that no ranged combatant could fend against it.
The young noble’s eyes brighten with glee as the edge of his sword came dangerously close towards Edward’s neck. It would definitely pierce through from behind, and instantly take the boy’s life.
“For a mere commoner’s blood to stain my treasured sword. Be grateful on your way to the underworld!”
However, the next scene caused his eyes to widen in shock. In the nick of time, Edward jumped backwards and dodge the attack that he thought was perfect.
Despite how much Calculus couldn’t believe it, how could his attack be effective when the five of them have never stopped their vigilance against him? Right now if he could use Origin Energy himself, he would have noticed that there are five soul perceptions overlapped on his location. Even his smallest movements would not escape their eyes.
At the same time, Luciette also saw the instance when Calculus attacked, and it became the straw that broke the camel’s back. Finally, the naïve young heiress stopped trusting Calculus.
She realised that her only reason for believing him was because he was from the same team, and under her command. Though she had long noticed that his reports were shady, her hesitation, and giving Calculus the benefit of doubts, had caused so many misplaced trusts.
For example, even though she had placed Alucard to keep an eye on Calculus, was far too insufficient for what she should’ve done and led to the deaths of three students under Kairos’ command. If Calculus were placed under George’s command instead of hers, he would have taken many more steps to keep Calculus from acting out of line.
Immediately after Edward avoided the blade, he joined his group and re-established the Northern Swords Array. This combat formation is specifically made to go against individuals stronger than them. Though scattered, their team yet fought as one.
Since Calculus wants to give it a try, they are most willing to help him.

They dashed towards the arrogant noble from all directions with weapons in hand. Attacking relentlessly, each of their strikes was exceedingly swift and decisive. Right afterwards, no matter if they struck or missed their target, they would immediately retreat.
Instantly, Calculus felt his head throbbing with pain.
Even if he was of a higher cultivation stage, they were like fleeting clouds and impossible for him to counterattack. He gritted his teeth and waited patiently for that one opportunity to end one of their miserable lives. As long as they make even the slightest mistake, he will surely catch it and break this annoying stratagem.
However, he quickly come to realised how naïve he was. Even if he tried to entangle one of them, he would suddenly be faced with five blades and could only defend himself.
No matter in defending or attacking, he was being toyed around, by five people weaker than him, no less!
The Orc King observing their back and forth became extremely interested in the fight. It smacked away Luciette’s attack with a backhand then ran towards the group.
That simple flick of its arm caused a shockwave that resulted in an unbelievable blast of wind, but a pure brute force like this is less effective on female practitioners that usually emphasise on suppleness.
This is especially true for Luciette. As an heir of a highly ranked noble family, she was trained to a sophisticated level in her family’s arts. As she twisted and turned, the terrible force was easily rendered harmless, and then like a beautiful ice flower disappearing under the summer sun, she flickered and disappeared.
The Orc King had charged towards the five who are locked in combat with Calculus but following them like a windblown snowflake, Luciette draped in her flowing white robes appeared above and dived downwards to intercept the monster. Without Jones around, she is the only one that could stop it now.
In her open palm sat a soft but gleaming white flower.
As she neared her target, she sent it directly towards the Orc’s back, and as though defying the law of physics, the flower ignored any air resistance sped towards it like a bullet.
Despite how fast everything was, the blossom still gave the illusion that it is slowly free falling, but it quickly caught up and landed on her target. And, in an instant, it disappeared.
Those observing waited, but nothing else happened. Even Luciette twisted her face in disbelief. This attack is an upgrade of her red parasitic flower. By all rights, once it melted into the skin of the victim, a frost root is left within. It will start proliferating until the Orc freezes into solid ice, it was an attack with enough power to kill even Orc Knights ten times over.
However, the Orc King instantly crushed the frost root within its body, not even slowing down in the process, as though, nothing ever happened.
Being a secret technique of the White Snow family, its power is not to be underestimated. To break it requires more than five times the difference in ability, yet it was done so easily. Just by this, she could tell that the Orc King is truly a legendary monster!
Luciette did not dare to come close to the charging monster. Just brushing past it could give her grievous wounds. She sent her internal energy to the tips of her feet and with a gentle tap, reverse flipped off the fearsome drag around the Orc King.
White Snow Family Arts: Snow Steps.
However, by retreating she had failed in stopping it, and the Orc King ran straight into Kairos’ group.

Calculus who was barely fending off the relentless strikes coming at him from all sides was suddenly assailed with a great gust of wind when the Orc King barrelled in.
The five of them were blown away, like flying blades scattered by a sudden gale. Fortunately, with their Northern Swords Array they could help each other nullify the force, and furthermore, even if the team dispersed, they remain fighting as one. Their movements, their every breath, and even their heartbeats were aligned.
On the other hand, Calculus did not have a method to redirect the blow like them, and the attack came from his blind spot. The Orc King’s two-meter body that is made of pure muscles and potent magic smashed into the Devilheart heir even before he could cry out, he flew off like a wild arrow and slammed into a large boulder a hundred paces away.
Everyone was shocked by the ferocity of the attack, but a glowing green sphere of Ki enveloped Calculus at the last moment and cut down the damage to a quarter. Still, it was powerful enough to make him spit out a mouthful of blood as he climbed out of the boulder from a hole with the shape of his body.

Without giving him a chance, Kairos’ team ignored the Orc King and rushed towards Calculus instead. Their paths were similar to how pinballs move when struck, rebounding from nearby trees and rocks, they had made use of the Orc King’s power to speed up.
Unlike pinballs, however, their attacks were filled with a fierce sharpness created by their Ki that not even their gel coated weapons could suppress. If they hit him in a bad spot with this, it would permanently cripple him, or worse.
Yet, even so, regardless of the results it will still be within the legal boundary.
It might be similar to what Calculus had been trying to do to them, but the most basic condition is different.
One must first understand that their attack strength has already long surpassed the safety impact guard of the rubbery gel coating and have become forceful enough to kill.
The academy may do their best to ensure each examinee’s safety, but survival had always been part of the test, and there is, in fact, no rules to punish those who attack with lethal forces.
As long as no cheating was involved, weak students who cannot receive an attack had only themselves to blame. Instead, the academy will even celebrate their luck in finding prodigies with such prowess.
Of course, the five of them are still taking an enormous risk by targeting Calculus, because behind the young boy is an entire noble family.
At this time, Jones finally returned and together with Luciette the two valiantly attempted to stall the Orc King. They do not know its intention, but they would not let it reach Kairos’ group.
The two attacked furiously with their blades flashing blindingly. In retaliation, the Orc flung his weapon around, and despite not having any combat techniques, just the gales it cast, and the shockwave from the aftermath of every blow was deadly.
Near them, the boys attacked swiftly, and five flashes of green light immediately appeared on the barrier that protected Calculus.
They know that the two could not buy them much time and desperately attacked. However, the life-saving treasure an heir apparent has is something beyond the means of their attacks.
Even if Luciette and Jones are blatantly ignoring what they are doing, it is still unknown whether they can crack open his protection.
On the other hand, Calculus found himself helpless to counterattack, and he yelled his frustration and threw several stones into the air. Each was the size of a pebble and engraved with an odd symbol as they flew into the air in a mysterious formation.
“BE CAREFUL! Those are sealing stones!” Jones yelled a warning while fighting with the Orc King.
*HMPH*
With a loud harrumph, the Orc slammed its fist into the ground as Jones and Luciette dodged with all they got. The resulting tremor caused every single person to feel as if they had been hit by a gigantic club. Even the sealing stones themselves smashed into dust and scattered into the winds. Though everyone was stunned, somehow, Calculus had received the worst impact.
Even protected by his green barrier sphere, the overbearing force caused him to spit out another mouthful of blood, and at the same time, Kairos’ team were saved.
Regardless what those sealing stones were, the five boys simultaneously breathed a sigh of relief that it was dispelled. Their instincts that were honed through battle had warned them that those little stones, which were cast into the air, could kill them all.
Calculus pushed a trembling hand into his robes and pulled out a small piece of jade that had shattered into tiny pieces. This is the protective charm given to him by his grandfather, a barrier stone so powerful that can prevent a blow from a B ranker, yet the Orc King shattered it merely at Entry C rank.
But despite its overwhelming power, everyone suddenly had the same thought, that maybe, the monster was trying to help. It was infinitesimally closer to the truth than they would’ve believed, but the reason is actually very simple.
The first time it laid eyes upon Kairos, it had thought that the boy is the perpetrator for the deaths of their race’s children, but it did notice that the human boy did not have the scent nor visage of a vicious beast.
Afterwards, that young boy rushed into the middle of their camp looking for it, trying to communicate with it. Although it ended up making it feel a need to remove the boy as a threat at that time, it wasn’t because of anything he did but of what he may become.
The boy then sent multiple messages that are plainly impossible to decode, but at least one can guess it is of a friendly nature. And just now, it found out that the culprit is not this boy but Calculus instead. Then finally, it watched in surprise that this same boy with his friends fought the culprit.
As the saying goes, an enemy of an enemy is a friend.
In that case, their species’ feud did not extend to Kairos, and in its heart, it secretly harboured hopes of peace. After all, if the human children are this powerful, it is no surprise that its ancestors lost.
The Orc King is a true intellectual being, one that matches, or even surpasses humans. Their species had been ridiculed as brainless feral beasts because the collective society that Orcs function in had lost their brains with the previous Orc King’s demise.
It is their source of intellect and battle strength since ages past, and among the countless magical beasts, only a few of them could match against the intelligence of the humans. And the Orc King is one of them.
Now that their leader had re-emergence of their leader, it is only a matter of time before they would grow strong again. Besides, as the honourable blood of warriors flows through its body, as long as Kairos and his friends do not attack it, the Orc King has no intention of harming those without fighting spirit.
Even though Kairos’ group had killed many Orcs before, but it knows all their actions were in self-defence, and for their race, warriors dying are a natural thing.
However, the deaths of their children caused by Calculus and his men are completely a different thing. Those shattered crystal eggs were innocents, and they represent the next generation. Therefore no matter what, Calculus must die today!
