《Refining the Heavens》Chapter 93: Combat Room (Part 3)

Against an Entry C rank opponent, Kairos could not afford to be careless for a single moment.
Although it wasn’t using any techniques, it is still at the same level as the Orc Knight which Jones had fought before. Unlike the Orc Knight, however, its forte is not in its physical strength but instead the toughness that metal encompasses.
As the power of the armour increases, the long sword it uses also became deadlier but with a smile on his face, Kairos allowed the Elemental to approach.
“Formless Style, borrowing the Heavens and returning a hell!”
As the long sword struck down at Kairos, he sent his Swallow to gently meet its edge. The two weapons met without any light or sound and were stuck together by moving in exact motions. It was like a piece of paper blown by the wind slapping onto the long sword.
Then Kairos channelled both weapons, accelerating them, and pulling them backwards towards himself where the long sword was aiming.
As the sword comes close to his flesh, he twirled his Swallow and bent his body backwards guiding both weapons to twirl as one.
The long sword that is now flat against the Swallow moved towards where Kairos wanted it, and like drawing a large circle in the air, he redirected the long sword to change directions.
*PANG*
The suit of armour heavily struck itself with its own long sword with the full might of its own Entry C ranked power.
“Formless Style, Dance of the raindrops.”
Right as the suit of armour shuddered backwards by after hitting itself in the face, Kairos stepped forward and struck it rapidly. A rain of blows fell, and in an instant, the damage became several folds.
Each thrust was as powerful as his full-powered strike and the armour quickly crumbled into pieces once again. The greater spirit was amazed at its shell breaking apart repeatedly.
As an Elemental that wields metallurgy from birth, its forte lies in its durability, and this is an advantage which it holds above the other spirits of nature, but against the boy it became worthless.
After it reforming the suit, the greater spirit once again elevated its strength to the Mid C rank. In the corner of its unbeating heart, it felt tempted to know what the boy’s limits are.
“Prepare thy self,” it said in an almost enraptured tone and attacked.
This time when facing its rush, Kairos did not try to redirect the long sword but instead received every blow head on. To redirect an attack requires him to be much quicker than his opponent. Against assaults of Mid C rank speed and power, it is better to defend appropriately.
He immediately combined the Formless Style receiving method with the nullification method of the Formless Style and turn his guard into an iron wall.
Every strike that came was reflected and harmlessly rebounded against his Swallow. Not only that, three-quarters of the powerful impacts from the enemy were returned to the gauntlets that held the long sword, while the last quarter of impact is transferred harmlessly through Kairos’ body and dissipated from his feet into the ground. Thanks to the defensive techniques, he could fight like this without tiring for a long time.
Meanwhile, the greater metal spirit felt as if it had been casting huge boulders into the ocean. Not even a ripple could be seen as the rocks sunk. In fact, it felt itself worn out swiftly while dealing with the unnaturally powerful recoils that flung its arms back further than they should.

And, each time its weapon rebounded, Kairos would press forward and strike it with great force. This way, even with his inferior strength, he could easily beat the armour back with only the power of Entry C rank after his Origin Infusion.
Resisting the best it could while dealing with counter-attacks, the armour soon cracked under pressure. With great frustration, the spirit decided to gamble on a powerful piercing strike.
It gathered spiritual energy into its weapon, infusing it like how Kairos infuses life force into his Swallow. For the first time in combat, it used a technique. The Greater Spirit’s energy is full of the metal element, making the blade of the long sword sharper than a razor.
With a great amount of power, it unleashed all of the gathered force aiming at the boy’s torso.
Although its energy level remained the same, this attack is considered unfair for a test. Making use of a loophole in its contract with the academy, the greater spirit utilised a skill it could enhance its attacking power greatly. A fearsome silver light ran across the room like a laser from the unleashing of the piercing strike.
Instinctively, Kairos could feel that the coming attack will be too quick and powerful to be reflected or nullified. He released his fifth skill without hesitation.
“Formless Style, the ripples upon a tranquil lake.”
A spherical barrier made with pure white light formed in front of him like a shield, and just as one is forming, another layer of barrier appeared upon the first.
Layer after layer swiftly appeared one on top of another, looking just like a rippling wave that had appeared upon a tranquil lake, and soon a powerful multi-layered barrier surrounds him.
He created this effect almost instantaneously by projecting the Ki barrier on his skin outwards, and it was not a moment too soon as the laser-like piercing attack cuts through the barrier.
The penetrative power of its strike is beyond belief. Just as metal is tough as it defends against attacks, it also have a keen edge, but after the strike broke through several layers of shield its speed started slowing down.
With all his might, Kairos dodged to the side. The sound of the strike whistled in the air as it sails across his cheek, leaving a red line of blood as it tears his skin. But the attack has been spent.
The barriers that he used are merely of Entry D grade, as his life force is only infused into his flesh and not into his Ki barrier.
It was more surprising that such a low grade energy barrier could slow down the piercing thrust of the greater spirit.
“Haha… thank goodness for that Formless Sword Stance manual…”
Kairos retracted his barrier before the power from the broken barriers disappear into the air, then he twisted his Swallow spiralling the weapon back to his side. His knees bend and he went into a crouch position.
“Formless Style,” He whispers, creating a new skill on the go, “Piercing the nine heavens!”
He took a look at the piercing technique the greater spirit used and thought to himself, “I can probably do this…”
He connected the meridian points that could replicated the attack and mirrored the elemental’s move immediately, in fact, he completely remodelled the skill to fit himself.
From the crouching position, Kairos pushed himself forward with such speed that it caused an afterimage to be left where he was. The next moment everyone saw him standing with a straight back with the suit of armour skewered on his Swallow.

The image of him valiantly with one hand effortlessly by his side and another holding his weapon that ran through his opponent, burned into the minds of all that watched.
Not even fifteen minutes passed and it once again had to reform itself.
This time, a powerful aura explodes from the armour.
Peak C rank.
This time, Kairos felt a similar amount of danger as the time when he faced the Orc King, despite the magical beast was only at Entry C rank; being gifted with its exceptional physique, the King could easily fight beyond its cultivation level.
The greater spirit gathered power into its weapon and a tremendous force radiated outwards from its long sword pouring into the room.
Just feeling the unbridled power whipping through the air caused Kairos’ face to stiffen. Even if he infuse his body with the Origin Energy to the limits, he can at most raise his power to Mid C.
Should he is to clash against it head on, there is no doubt it will turn into a difficult fight.
The other students, the staff and the principal watched with their eyes glue, but almost no one believed he would win.
“Why isn’t he forfeiting?”
“The power disparity is too much, surely Kairos couldn’t be trying to win?”
“No way, it’s impossible for him. The difference in their cultivation stages are simply too great!”
Even his friends thought defeating the Elemental was unlikely, but the next words Kairos whispered silent the room.
.
.
I call into existence, thine sixteen elements of the highest.
Multiple spheres of light were summoned and they spiralled around him forcing the spirit a step backwards.
Clad unto me fury of gods.
The white glow of barrier surrounding Kairos grew even brighter than before, becoming a raiment that looked divine. Fearsome strands of light escaped the Ki coating around him and gathered behind his back.
A huge pair of wings created by the countless strands of light, covered the breadth of the room and a small crown of light manifested upon his brows.
For this short moment his appearance is like that of a god.
Shatter all before my sight.
The armour cracked as he spoke these words, but those that watched carefully realised that it is not just the enemy but the entirety of the room that suddenly become filled with spider web-like cracks.
As he said the last three lines of incantation, he brought his weapon down.
I am He whom thou obeys
At the first line, the armour’s movements were frozen, even its trembling ceased.
Hear my call, [][][][][][], the true name of dominance.
The second line, it felt its metal slowly breaking down into dust.
Trample underfoot the indomitable!
The third line, the Elemental felt a fear that came from deep within its soul. Somehow it felt as if it were mere moments away from being vanquished.
One must know that greater spirits are all at least beings of the S rank.
The power of its existence would have made anyone laugh if they hear that a greater spirit is residing within a Titan ranked armour.
If not because this spirit is of the metal element and could strengthen the armour, it would have instead broken the vessel because of its power.
Yet such a powerful being that had never used its full power against Kairos, felt that a C ranked attack is threatening its life at this moment.
As Kairos’ attack lands, the greater spirit fled from its vessel, refusing to take the attack head-on.
The armour is once again broken into pieces and the faces of everyone watching the viewing crystal turned pale.
After Kairos’ weapon cut through the armour, the blade slashed through the hard thousand-year ice rock floor.
A deep crack appeared in the middle of the ground as his weapon sliced through the ground but midway the Swallow crumbled into dust.
The steel weapon was unable to keep up with the power unleashed from Kairos’ secret arts.
“It’s the World Severing Slash (破天滅世斬)!” the students instantly recognised the move and exclaimed.
As everyone stared at the screen with blank expressions, Kairos sensed two familiar energy signatures escaping from his broken weapon.
“Lesser spirits?” the greater metal spirit’s voice sounded from somewhere in the air.
Aisa, quickly pull them into my pocket.
A flicker of a white shadow appeared briefly in the room and then disappeared back to where it originated from.
The ‘energy signatures’ from the weapon was the tiny frost and fire dragons that Kairos had infused into his Swallow.
When he used his secret arts, the energy have overloaded the twin dragons and their existence suddenly become too much for the steel grade weapon to contain.
The small dragons escaped from their broken vessel and looked for their master, Kairos.
They gleefully felt his presence nearby and wanted to dance in delight. After Kairos infused them into his weapon, he had cut off their connection but the dragons had always wanted to return to his side.
Since they are unable to re-enter his body once more and go back to their home, his Dantian, and could only stay close-by to him. At that moment, a powerful force of nature appeared before their eyes, and it nipped one of them by its neck and the grabbed the other by its claws then brought them into their master’s robes.
The twin dragons have formed flesh and became tiny dragons, just like how primordial dragons wish themselves into existence. But as their level of existence is lower, their power is far beneath a divine dragon like Aisa, and their intelligence is likewise inferior.
Now nestling safely within his pockets, the pair quickly fell asleep like young children in the embrace of their parent.
“I think no one saw it,” Kairos sighed with relief. The speed which everything had happen were faster than the blink of an eye.
“I surrender. My weapon is broken,” He said to the greater metal spirit before it started the Entry B rank combat power test.
When he spoke the words, the door to the combat room released its lock and opens.
A deafening round of applause resounded like an uproar from the students outside. They still reveled in excitement from the combat ability that Kairos has shown them.
Even after watching everything closely, the limits that the young boy could reach is still a mystery, for he only after his weapon had shattered did he stopped the battle.
