《A Reincarnated Demon’s Life of Wonder》[Arc 1] Chapter 16: Bored on the Boat
Advertisement
*Yaaawn*. This is getting stale...
I'm currently on one of the "floating rocks", the official way of transportation here on the 5th floor.
To those who don't know much about this floor, or have simply forgotten about the last time I was here (I sure didn't), this floor is sorta like a big waterslide. You can't just walk to the other side of the room and the next floor. You gotta kill some time while riding a bunch of floating rocks and reach the other side with them.
The good news about this floor is that as long as you travel with these rocks, you won't encounter any monsters. D-ranks or not, those guys don't seem keen on swimming through these rough currents. Even if they're D-ranked snakes.
This floor has several "islands" where one can jump off the "rock boat" and get some rest and maybe a bite. But the problem is that other creatures may want a bite out of you. Those resting islands are essentially the turfs of the local monsters! But I got lots of food stashed in my Storage, so I just need to stay on this "rock boat" and still clear this floor.
Well, there are a few islands that seem devoided for snakes. They have some strange-colored grass there, so I often jump onto one of them when I'm tired of "boating" and need a good night's rest in a bed that doesn't move. The grass is tall enough to hide in as well, so those islands get a double thumbs-up from me. If I had thumbs.
The only thing that pains me is the lack of entertainment. Since attracting attention is the same as courting death here, all I can do is laze around. I've been using this time as efficiently as I could, so most of my non-noticeable skills have gotten some training. I've also used AP to buy new skills after the level-up fever from destroying the roach nest (along with half or more of the 4th floor) and the latest quest reward.
And boy did I splurge. First, I bought the remaining "five-sense"-related skills, which are [Olfactory Reinforcement], [Tactile Reinforcement], and [Taste Reinforcement]. They are respectively improving my sense of smell, touch, and taste. Nothing impressive, but they are passives that I'd be using even if I had a normal life, so they're good enough.
Even after buying all of them, I still had more than enough AP for even more skills. 4 of them. Meaning I've obtained a total of 7 skills from the 4th floor. 8 when we include the [Dreamlike Form] skill I got from the quest, and even more when you count in the skills that came with that boatload of titles I got.
But for now, let's return to the store-bought skills, they are: [Concentration], [Prediction], [Parallel Thinking], and [Glow Web].
The first three skills are "mental skills" that passively improve my concentration and ability to predict an outcome. The last of the trio makes it easier to think of several things at the same time. That'd be useful in a fight, but it's currently at Lv.1 along with the others, so I'm not sure if it works properly or not.

Finally, there's the [Glow Web] skill. It's a monster skill related to spiders and lets them make their webbing glow. Sorta lame, but it's good for attracting the attention of prey. Sorta like how an angler fish does it. Also, it's a Light attribute skill, something I was looking for. Plus I can use it to have fun when I'm not hunting and stuff, so I believe it'll be an easy skill to grind proficiency with. Though, I'm not doing it now. I don't want to catch the snakes' curiosity.
And there you have it. As for my full stats...

Oh, boy. Am I turning into a speed demon or what?
Ignoring my stats (which are beginning to become seriously lopsided), I've gotten way more titles now as well. Some of them gave me more skills to work with too. Let's start with [Daredevil], as I've already looked at [Merciless].
Title Name: Daredevil Acquisition condition: Perform fearless and reckless actions. Effects: Reduces the effectiveness of mental status effects on the title owner: [Small] Rewards: Skill: [Fear Resistance Lv.1] Description:
A title granted to those who have no respect for safety or their own lives.
Oh, okay. It's...vague... Both its effect, and its requirements. Rather, isn't it just insulting?
The effect of the [Fear Resistance] skill is the ability to reduce the probability of me getting inflicted with the "Fear" status ailment. So now I'm both starting to become immune to fear while also spreading it around like some sorta plague. Yay.
A secondary effect of the skill seems to be "allowing one to act even while feeling fear", which doesn't seem to be related to only the status ailment. Does this mean I'm less likely to freeze up from the fear? If that's the case..., then this skill may be more useful than you'd believe.
Title Name: Destroyer Acquisition condition: Destroy large amounts of objects. Effects: Improves damage inflicted on items or objects: [Small] Rewards: Skill: [Destruction Reinforcement Lv.1] Description:
A title granted to the bane of buildings and objects. Yeah, you sure are one fearsome dude/girl/something.
And the next title. The description is somewhat insulting again, but I can live with that. For once, I'm agreeing with the requirements to obtain it. I crushed a whole Dungeon floor after all. Two if we count the 3rd floor.
The skill [Destruction Reinforcement]'s effect is "improving destructive power of attacks". I'd guess it's simply a power-up...I think. It's like, really vague.
The "Hunting titles" aren't worth looking directly into. They're just titles obtained from killing a certain amount of creatures. The [Health] skill simply boosts my HP by the same amount as the skill's level and getting that [Speed Lv.1] skill from [Insect Slayer] simply upped the skill level of the copy I already owned since the new copy gave proficiency equal to one skill level. Lower levels do give less proficiency than higher levels, but I must have been pretty close to leveling it up anyway.
Now that I've updated myself on the latest title trends, it's time to look into something that I've processed for too long. "Traits" and "Blessings".
According to the Note, "traits" are something like racial abilities. You can become stronger or weaker in certain situations, plus evolution is heavily centered on these things. When I evolved, one of my traits got upgraded, plus I got a whole new one as well. My current traits are...
Trait List:
Lesser Demon:
Decreased stats when exposed to sunlight: [Small] Increased stats when exposed to moonlight: [Small] Darkness-aligned attribute enhancement: [Small] Curse attribute enhancement: [Small] Received Holy- and Gold attribute damage increase: *3 Received Light-aligned attribute damage increase: *2 Received Darkness-aligned attribute damage decrease: *2 Negative Karma Value increase: [Small] Positive Karma Value decrease: [Small] Automatic MP Recovery-Type Effectiveness Increase: [Small] Nightvision.
Albino:
Reduced abilities when exposed to sunlight. Received Light-, Sun attribute damage increase: *1.1 Loss of pigments for hair, skin, and eyes. (Only when possible)
Arachnid:
Received Fire- and Ice-aligned Attribute Damage Increase: *3 Increased resistance and enhancement towards poison-related abilities: [Normal] Increased web-handling abilities: [Normal] Increased effect of Fear-inflicting abilities: [Small]
Wow, what kinda nightmare did I crawl out from? And being an "albino"'s considered a trait!? ...wonder if there's an evolution that uses that as a requirement.
And might I ask why I have so many weaknesses!? The Albino part is sorta excused, plus it's not that big of an increase. But the other guys...
Let's keep it orderly and start from Lesser Demon.
First, that "Holy and Gold" increase, it's too brutal! Three times the damage?! And why's "Gold" in there? Holy's alright and all, but why's Gold so bad for demons? And why's "Gold" even an attribute???
Second, the "Light-aligned" part is bad. "Aligned" refers to any attribute that's part-Light, or fully Light. Meaning any composition attribute that got Light as part of the package deal is my second-worst enemy!! The scale's too big to make countermeasures for each one!
And then we've arrived at the third point on our list, the resistance-up effect for any Darkness-aligned attributes. This one is great. No complaints here. But I wished that I had more defenses than weaknesses...
And then there's this "Arachnid"-trait. Why do I need to take more damage from both Fire AND Ice-related elements?! And it's not limited to just those two, but ALL of them! Composition attributes, primary attributes, all of them! The bonus toward poison-related abilities is a saver for this trait. It's not limited to the Poison attribute even, but I'm still going for that one.
Yeah, my life outside the caves is gonna be horrible. Not only because of the extra damage but because the sun hates me. Geez...
Oh, and I guess there's the "Blessing" as well. They're real blessings given by the gods of this world. The Kigal-Note told me that the effect of the Blessings variates between each god and the person they are gifting their blessings to.
I have a Blessing for some reason, but I bet it's nothing decent. The only god I can imagine giving me one of these must be the bastard who sent me down this hell-hole...
Blessings:
Champion of Alvatria:
Enhancements to all Darkness-type abilities: [MAX] Enhancement to despair-type abilities: [Huge] Enhancements to trickery-type abilities: [Huge] Enhancements to ability-disrupting abilities: [Huge] Enhancements to wealth-and-fortune abilities: [Normal] Doubles the value of any obtained Aether Points. Can be extended to any subordinate. Grants access to the skill: [Aura of Darkness]
...K-N? Mind explaining this?
Answer. The Blessings of the Ultimate Champions are generally centered around their patron god's Authorities.
...meaning my..."boss"...can do all that's written on this list?
Answer. That is incorrect.
Phew. That's a relief-
Continuing. It is not that they "can do all that", it is that they are all of that.
...I'm not gonna mess around with that goddess anymore. She's too freaky. And the boat ride...still goes on. Yawn...hey! Now I get why [Sleep] is so high-leveled already! ...but I'm still scared. Scared senseless. And bored even more senseless. I hate boats...

A D&D Gamer in Garweeze Wurld
He doesn't know how he got here, and while the trappings are familiar, he doesn't actually know where he is, either. From the perspective of those around him, Duromar is a half-ogre barbarian, an uncivilized brute by any standard you care to use. But from his perspective, he's a character created in a gaming system. From either one, he must live within the rules of that system. This is the story of a gamer who ends up in a game that's just a bit off from what he knows. ---- I wanted to write something a little bit old-school. Most of the LitRPG I've found seems to be based on computer RPG styled stories. Progression through levels is fast, and depending on the game, skills and even attributes can be trained with or without class levels. This wasn't true with the older pen and paper games, and that's the style of leveling I wanted to write.

A God's Champion
James was an Operator who had the misfortune to die in battle. Instead of his soul moving on to his just reward, it is intercepted, and James finds himself on a new mission. Asked to be the Champion for Ignatius, God of Embers, he finds himself in a different world, fighting impossible creatures and trying to survive. Their lives now depend on his completing the Challenge and ranking in the top 500. But the odds are stacked against him, and he was a better operator than a swordsman. Chapters released Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 12:30 Warning: After Chapter 11, the MC undergoes a significant change of class and race. This is due to a couple of factors. The first is that when the MC was created, James didn't know what he was doing, so he picked what he thought would work. The second reason is that he had access to more information to game the system a little. The premise is like when you buy a new video game and decide to play it without RTFM. After creating a great character and making it to the end of the first act, you realize that, although your character may be kewl, it is gimped and will not survive until the end of the game. Going back to the start, you create a new character with the knowledge you gained from playing the game and perhaps, peeking at the manual.
