《The Arcane Prince》Book 1 Q&A
Advertisement
Q) When is this returning?
A) Whenever I finish writing Book 2.
Q) What was the Blessed Oath that Max and Hailey made?
A) A promise of non-hostility between them. It was done after several conflicts between them that they decided was going nowhere and benefiting neither of them.
Q) Why is Max's Mana purple? What significance does it have?
A) The color of one's Mana depends on the location where you're born/descended from, and that's it. Nothing special.
Q) Is Max a demigod?
A) No. A demigod's Status would mention if they were a demigod, so you'd have already known if Max were one.
Q) Is Max descended of a god? His last name/kingdom is similar to one.
A) Many kingdoms are named after gods whose domains they closely fit into, such as Kedridal, the Shield Against the Northern Wilderness, being named after Kedriald, the God of Protection and Sanctuaries. I forgot to have this included in Book 1, so it'll either be mentioned in Book 2, or get edited into Book 1 before Book 2 goes live. Max's kingdom is a magic-focused kingdom, so they were named after the God of Magic.
Q) Who is Elm?
A) He is one of a set of nearly-identical quadruplets, another of whom – Ash – will be making an appearance early into Book 2!
Q) Will Max learn powers outside of the elements during the course of the story?
A) I honestly don't know. It depends on how many books the story ends up being. With my current plans, he won't if it only lasts two or three books. They're not things he can learn the same way as the elements, as they aren't flowing in his Mana, so he needs a proper foundation – and probably a proper teacher – for learning them.

Q) Will Max get to learn if the tree that stretches its branches up into the sky is real, and if so, will he see it?
A) Max will only learn whether or not it's real in-story if I do the additional plot for after the first two or three books; if I don't go with the multi-book-spanning plot, then Max will not find out within the story.
Q) Will we get to see other nations/lands in or out of the valley?
A) Yes! Max will be exploring a bit in Book 2, seeking out wonders of the world.
Q) What's the plot for Book 2?
A) Right now, there's no definitive plot. However, I do plan on having Max start seeking out wonderful things to look at and explore. Depending on how things go, he may even get to visit a civilization outside of the valley! There will also be a major fight at the end to show off how badass he is, too!
Q) Will Max ever find his homeland?
A) Only if I go with the Big Journey. The Big Journey plot, which will span multiple books, will be Max looking for his homeland, and eventually finding it at the end of the Big Journey.
Q) Why might you not do that and instead go with only 2 or 3 books?
A) For several reasons. The Big Journey will be at least 3-4 four books on its own, possibly 5-6 or more. Going any shorter to find Max's homeland just won't work for this story, as it'd feel too cheap. As a result, I need to come up with content for each of those books, make sure they're fleshed-out, etc. I already have the basic plots for them, but without the little details, I can't turn them into full books. Ending it before the Big Journey if I'm not able to come up with that stuff will allow me to end the story at the conclusion of a story, rather than at the end of a book that's part of a multi-book arc.

Q) Is there a Max x Colt ship?
A) Not in the plans. There are two possibilities based on how many books the story ends up being. If the story is only two or three books long, then it will be either a boy he's met in Book 1 or a character he meets in a civilization he explores in Book 2 or 3. If I do the Big Journey plot, then it will be a boy he meets on the Big Journey.

Limits
Have you ever considered, what is a Limit? Well, I have. I’ve seen people who were as strong, as wild animals. Those that were faster than the wind. Some that shined with intellect. Yet, what are the Limits of mankind’s strength, or intelligence? No one seems to know. We develop more and more, seemingly without an end. What if, someone was the smartest in the world? Would that suggest the Limit? What if, someone was the strongest in the world? Would that be the Limit? Would that make that someone, more than a Human? These are just questions, but what if I saw people reach their Limits? What if I know what happens, when you break the Limits? What if I were to tell you about it, would you believe me? Hellfire Across the Heavens
Three centuries of FTL space travel has spread the people of Terra far across the stars and for nearly half a millennia people have asked the question, "are we alone in the universe?" The answer to that question is a resounding no. To one side, humanity is boxed in by an ancient empire whose light has burned up long ago. To the other, is a federation of alien races known as the Senate. Mankind rejoiced the knowledge that they were not the only life in a cold dark galaxy. But as first contact was made, ET's who transited into the Warp seemed to disappear without a trace, technologies traded with the other races malfunctioned or refused to work entirely, and simple translation errors led to grave misunderstandings. Before long, humanity was outcasted by the Senate and relationships soured, but even still the sons and daughters of Terra worked hard to earn the respect and trust of the Xeno's.

Another one down. He wiped the sweat from his brow, once again cursing his luck. Out of anyone, this had to happen to him... Probably another way to have him depend on her. She had him in the palm of her hands and he wanted to jump off. He knew he'd be dead without her help though, just for now he had to play along. He had to follow orders.

Cycles of Ruin
Civilizations rise and fall. Kith build them up and monsters, led by powerful dungeon keepers, bring them to ruin. For three thousand years the cycle has been maintained by the Guild of Chaos and its endless hordes of minions who—in absence of their long lost creators—have taken it upon themselves to keep the realms of the universe in balance. The Guild has grown efficient at this task, but some among its ranks have begun to ponder the utility of a universe that has been robbed of the very possibility of change. Basil von Doom is one such dungeon keeper working for the Guild, leading an army of loyal minions from one conquest to the next; burning civilizations and sifting through the ruins in search of forbidden knowledge that the races of kith were never meant to possess. But having spent more than half a century in pursuit of glory and fame—trying to live up to the legacy of his father—Basil has grown indifferent towards his work. Desperate for a worthy challenge, but bound by his duties as a dungeon keeper, he has turned his mind towards uncovering the ultimate fate of the previous master of his house and the secrets that were buried with him. Now the young Master of House Doom must balance his growing interest in pursuing the trail of his father with the responsibilities that come with running a dungeon in service to the Guild of Chaos. To remain in good standing with the Guild, Basil has even accepted the task of mentoring an apprentice dungeon keeper, a young succubus named Elnora. It is at the tail end of her apprenticeship that the story begins; with a civilization poised to fall—its greatest heroes gathering for one last assault on the heart of darkness—and Basil striking up a conversation with his apprentice that will set into motion the unraveling of the universe. ***This is a rewrite and continuation of my story that was first posted on RoyalRoad a few years ago.
