A dozen more shards of metal were thrown into the fire. After they landed among the coals a few twigs followed and scattered over top of them.

The hollow king reached his hand deep into the coals to grab a few of the embers that still burned with life. He ripped them from their home beneath the corpses of white ash and sprinkled them on top of the fresh wood. Ash sprayed up into the air as he disturbed it and covered the hollow king in a layer of white.

He leaned close to the fire and let out a steady stream of air blown from his mouth. This made even more ash swirl up around him in a cloud of white, but as the ash flew out, the coals started to glow redder and redder. Soon enough, a new fire sprung forth. It was small, but the new kindling quickly caught fire. More and more small flames burst to life and more and more spread to the kindling that stood over the new shards.

As the fire started to grow, the hollow king placed a few more substantial pieces of wood over top of it all.
