《The Bartender at the End of the Universe》Ch 105: An Eye for an Eye

The greediest of mankind always managed to find their way into tombs. Those greedy for money, for knowledge, for power. The secrets of the long dead held far too much potential to quench their greed. This was made all the better by a perceived lack of defenses. However, many of these such tombs were not as defenseless as those who would seek their treasures thought.
"Go on! Hurry past the gap. I'll hold this thing off!" Trizel yelled out as he spread his arms out.
Trizel was standing on a narrow ledge along a wall. His feet were too large to fully fit on it, and his toes hung out over the edge. He scowled as he stared at a cloaked figure that was dangling from a railing a few dozen feet away. It had a yellow glowing orb in the center of its hood, with the rest of its face covered in shadows. It was wearing a tattered brown hood with layers of long brown strips spreading down from the hood and concealing its true form. A single rusted metal arm was extended out the side and hanging onto a railing with a three-digit hand that ended in sharp talons.
"Iiiiitttt ccccuuutttt ttthhheeee rrroooopppeeee," Bakade called out as she hung from the ledge. Despite having one hand wrapped in bandages, she seemed to handle moving along it pretty well.
Sentenza looked over at Death. "Maybe you should head out for a bit. It'll be harder to chase all of us if you go a different direction for a while," he said calmly as he slid along the ledge one foot after the other.
Huh? What are...
Lulu slapped the back of Death's skull. "No point in saying anything, just stick to the plan. Head out so that this thing has to follow two groups instead of all of us being cornered together."

Death's skull spun around, and he clapped his hands around both sides to stop it. Oh, I get it. Cool. I'll uh, meet back up with you guys somewhere, alright?
As Death disappeared, the yellow eye slowly scanned each of them while it just hung there.
"So, do you still swear by left being the best way forward?" Og'drimun said as he floated near Lulu's head.
Lulu smirked. "Oh? Decided you'll pay me a little something for my information finally?"
"Iiissss ttthhhiiisss rrreeaaallllyyyy ttthhheee tttiiiimmmeee?" Bakade groaned.
"It's always a good time to make some money." Lulu countered. "Otherwise, what's the point in life, you know?"
"There are things more important than money," Trizel snorted as he held his hands at the ready and his eyes focused on the new creature.
"Hah!" laughed Sentenza. "At least you can still joke in such a serious situation."
"Uh, power is way more important than money," Og'drimun disagreed. "Enough power, and money doesn't matter at all."
"Seems a bit short sighted to me," Lulu said.
"Oh yeah?" said Og'drimun. "Why is that?"
"Power never really lasts, but with money? Well, that stuff can last a lot longer and create more stable kinds of power." Lulu explained.
"Iiiissss ttthhhaaattt ffffrrreeeeee aaadddvvviiiccceee?" Bakade smirked.
Lulu opened her mouth to speak but stopped herself. She tilted her head to the side and smiled as she tapped a finger against her chin. "Seems you got me again. I'm giving away way too much today."
"Maybe you could all hurry a bit more instead of focusing on talking," Trizel sneered as he refused to move his gaze from the one-eyed creature. "Fighting over a pit is not really a preferable place for combat."

"Only if you aren't confident that you're better at not falling than the guy you're facing." Og'drimun replied before he stuck out his tongue.
Sentenza's hand flew up and caught the small demon's tongue in-between two of his fingers. As the furry creature made a groaning noise to raise his dislike of the situation, Sentenza calmly said, "Well, you can fly, but a claw through one of your wings, and I'd bet that you'd be the worst out of everyone here."
BANG!
The one-eyed stalker had shifted forward, and Sentenza fired a bullet towards it. The creature craned its neck back and avoided the bullet. It paused its movement for a moment before it turned its head towards Sentenza. It's one, glowing eye, stared at him for a while as Sentenza shifted the barrel of his smoking gun up into the air.
"I said I would handle this," Trizel snapped. "Focus on escaping, and I will keep it from following."
Narissa shook her head as she chuckled, "No, you see it has to be soaked, not boiled. Otherwise..."
Whoa! Death popped into place behind Narissa and cut her off. Hey uh, we got a problem.

Humanity Extinguished
I had the same nightmare again. The loss of my first life continues to haunt me, but now it aches like an old wound. A more grievous injury to my psyche was the losses yet to come and the inevitable hellscape I would return to again and again. Reincarnation is my curse. The lives themselves weren't all that bad. Losing people you cared about hurt and all, but even that pain was preferable to experiencing the nothingness between lives for months at a time. It was enough to drive anyone mad. Now I have to focus on breaking this horrible cycle. Thankfully I have all the time in the world. Trace is an average man driven by extraordinary circumstances in an indifferent and cruel world. His reincarnations give him a few key advantages but also take a heavy toll on him. He lives in a world where magic is uncommon and underpowered compared to the limitless physical adaptations you can acquire by getting your hands a little bloody. This story is one of hardship and terrible lows, but also monumental achievements and grand heights. The main character has flaws. While some of these flaws will fade with time, others will worsen. Thank you for taking the time to read my synopsis. I plan to release 2-3 chapters a week.
