《Infinitium, Book 1》Chapter 47, But We Told You the Truth

(Day 174) Aprilis 20th, 12th year of the Dragon, Age of Enlightenment
For the last 7 days, Mayzier had enjoyed himself thoroughly. These two nobles from the north had proved to be strong-willed and refused to give up. He preferred it when those he tortured had a will to live. The look in their eyes when you finally had permission to snuff out their lives. He grew excited just thinking about it. Today he’d been using hot irons until the iron cooled, then he’d rip it away, taking some skin with it. When they were just about dead he’d offer them a healing potion which they’d drink, then he’d give that person a break as he moved on to the next. He had been warned not to completely break their mind or kill them. They had after all sworn allegiance to The Council. They claimed it wasn’t their fault that they failed. Mayzier thought about how many times the men and women given to him had claimed their failure wasn’t their fault, pathetic.
The Vizier walked into the torture room. “Release them, it is as they claimed. One man thwarted our plans, one man destroyed 100 of our best assassins, and one man will die before the end of this month. Make sure they’re fully healed then take them to a place where they can heal from their wounds. Though they failed in their mission, they were the first to arrive and report this new threat, even if it was unintentional.”
“As you will Vizier” Mayzier responded as he helped the guards that had come in to escort them to their rooms. Once they were gone Mayzier went to the Mission Planning Room. As he stepped into the room one of the Acolytes turned to him and spoke.
“There is nothing like this man,” the acolyte stated flatly

“Eyewitness reports state that he killed each and every one of the assassins taking the castle and surrounding in less than an hour. The report also states that the only reason it took that long was because he systematically searched each and every building to make sure he didn’t miss any. The actual time to kill each assassin was much less. Multiple reports state the assassins were moving toward a target then suddenly there was a hole in the assassin’s chest and their heart was on the ground in front of them. He killed the assassins so quickly that the witnesses didn’t even see him.
“The witness we found concerning Desirae was even less helpful. Desirae and both her lieutenants heard the screaming, took up defensive positions then waited. The Lieutenants were reduced to ash as Desirae jumped away while mage spells rained down on them from above before a vortex opened and sucked her and someone floating above her into it and closed. During the next half hour, it seems that the man was gone. Then he was back and helped the loyal guards subdue the traitors. The ones that continued to fight were fed to the dungeon. The guards that surrendered are no longer trusted and are being used as slaves to clean up the city and repair the damage that was done.” another Acolyte stated
“Has anyone made it close enough to Analyze him?” Mayzier asked
“Yes. They fail every time. His resistance to magic must be so near to 100% or 100% that it doesn’t matter.” The first Acolyte answered
“Do we have a plan to kill him?” Mayzier asked
“We do, but it will require a little more time to prepare.” The 2nd Acolyte said.
“Then we have a mission, make it happen”

On the continent of Moravia, eight empires have united humanity into a coalition of kingdoms that killed the world’s gods and have sworn to uphold peace amongst mortals. But sorcerers prevail among the ruling class and the only way to subvert power is through duels and tournaments, which common people can never hope to win. Even the right to create an independent nation is locked behind a tournament. Mattiew and Adriana Nikoliades try their best to live a settled life as a former pirate and a runaway heiress. But despite their efforts, Adriana’s father inflicted his daughter with a debilitating curse that would end in her death. The Cracks in the Labyrinth
Evoking the paranoid tension of Rosemary's Baby and the unnerving atmosphere of the cult horror film Jacob's Ladder, The Cracks in the Labyrinth is a disturbing psychological thriller set in present-day Caracas, where the government has devolved into a "democratic dictatorship"-a creepy suspense novel meant to challenge your deeper, subconscious fears of losing control. It consumed the sanity of an entire country...And it was not from this world. It couldn't have been. Whatever caused the incident known as "The Red Christmas" drove Venezuela into madness.Even ten years since it happened, none of the survivors of that night dare to attempt to make sense of it all, including Adam. Living ostracized to hide from the brutal way of life in Caracas, he's working tirelessly as an online writer to help his brother and sister flee the country. Now, as he's about to have enough money to take them to safety, he receives an email from his old girlfriend ... which is remarkable, considering she's been presumed dead for years. Adam tries to think nothing of the email or the broken video file attached to it. He convinces himself that it has to be a computer virus of some kind until he discovers something terrifying: the video might link his sister to the worst night of his life, the night his girlfriend went missing, the night of "The Red Christmas". Then he realizes this could be a threat; his sister's life could be in danger. As he starts to investigate who sent the video, Adam begins to uncover dark truths about his neighbors and finds evidence that there might be a larger conspiracy at play. The problem is that he's starting to suffer from hellish hallucinations that make him question what is real. Soon, the only clear thing to him is that someone doesn't want him to dig up the past. Will Adam be able to stay sane long enough to find out what really happened the night of "The Red Christmas"? Will he succeed in helping his family escape the country?

Who Fixes Books Anyway?
On the pretense of a raise, the relatively new employee Pernie is called in to talk with her superiors. NOTE: This is a short story written for a class I took recently. As a result of deadlines, it does not possess the quality (or length) that I would like and is rather thrunkated. Perhaps sometime far in the furture I'll fix it up. For now, I have much more important things to work on, such as my other fiction.
