《Divine Demon Goblin》Chapter 1

Chapter 1
I died.
After that.
Darkness. For a second or an eternity?
When he opened his eyes were these the first thoughts coming to his mind.
He laid on a cave floor. It was cold and hard. He felt incredibly weak and hurt.
Even through his head was aching, his sight seemed suddenly weirdly short.
He could see better than the lighting in the incredibly dim cave suggested.
There was only a tiny touch of light breaking through the stone at one place at the top of the cave.
Even with that dim light, he could make out that his skin had a different color.
He was green now. A greenskin. A greenling. An alien.
A mild pain shot through his head.
Two years of misty memories ran through his mind.
It seemed, he transmigrated into the body of a two year old goblin.
Its name was Snarky. Of course translated.
In the goblin language, Gobble, it sounded like a fart and the name had some kind of a grunt in the middle.
Grunting was often used in Gobble. That and some other really weird noises goblins made.
With his new memories and his new body he could even pronounce Gobble and make these noises.
He tried it a few times.
"Survive." "Survive." "Survive.", he fired himself on in Gobble.
He chuckled weakly.
He was still male. Or again. Whatever. That was good.
Snarky`s memories told him was that he wasn't in a normal cave like he originally thought.
It was a whole cave system that the Lost Tooth Tribe claimed for themselves.
He sat up and collected his thoughts.
Snarky was a common hunter with low skills and even lower reputation in the tribe.
Snarky had a weak presence.
Since Snarky had nothing going for him except a somewhat handy nonpresence, Snarky couldn't get the attention of a single goblin tit.
Problem was, Snarky was so horny. And that all the time.
Next winter Snarky would have finished growing up and Snarky was at the hight of puberty.
Snarky didn't even dare to dream about catching himself a human or elven woman.
They were treasures far out of his reach.
Snarky saw a human and an elven woman only once.
It was a really lucky sun. Unlucky too, but still lucky.
Half of the raiding party got massacred, but Snarky could hide away in a bush.
Snarky was smart and learnt to play dead from a prey he had hunted one time.
It hadn't worked against him. Snarky was too clever.
Snarky had enjoyed feasting on that furry creature.
But it had worked for Snarky.

Snarky still had the battle scars from the thorns on his green ass.
The lithe elven woman in the tight leather and the busty mage in her robe, Snarky remembered them fondly.
Snarky treasured their beauty many times in his mind.
The other adventurers hadn't been pretty.
So Snarky stalked and peeped on the goblin tits.
Only this time when Snarky followed Giffy, a pretty goblin that even a few followers of the chief sometimes went after, Snarky got caught.
And Giffy wasn't only a pretty female goblin, she was a hunter too.
Snarky only understood in the end that following her hadn't been a good idea.
Before the thought hadn't even occured.
Giffy noticed Snarky stalking and waited behind the next corner.
A punch was Snarky's surprise gift. One punch. Followed by many more.
Giffy had so much fun beating Snarky to the ground.
She kicked him when he went down.
She was so into it that she didn't stop and ended him.
Making place for the transmigration into Snarky's body.
He was still in the same cave tunnel where Giffy had sent Snarky off.
So she just killed him and left his body there.
From the memories he noticed, things like this happened all the time.
No one would make trouble for someone like Griffy for killing Snarky.
He sat there alone in the dim cave tunnel.
Lost in thoughts. Lost in memories. In his own and in Snarky's.
He even ignored thirst and hunger and only focused on something else again when he heard a sound in his head.
*ding*
[Congratulations for being chosen by The System.]
[You are now the host of the Divine Demon System.]
[You received one starter pack.]
[Work hard and cultivate well!]
Transmigration plus a system. If only I were a stud of a considerable humanoid species too, then it would be perfect.
*sigh*
One can't have everything. Let's look at my golden finger, the Divine Demon System.
At this thought the system showed itself to him again.
[Status]
[System Shop]
[System Inventory]
He thought about looking at his status first and like magic the words changed.
[Status: Mortal]
[Blood Qi Essence: 0]
That's it?
Hello?
System?!
He thought to the system and then spoke to it but nothing changed.
Maybe I should look into the shop.
The status was unchanged.
System shop.
Thinking that worked.
[Blood Qi Essence: 0]
[Qi Condensation Pill 1 BQE]
[Healing Pill 1 BQE]
[Poison Pill 2 BQE]
.
.
.
That's how it started and the list went on and on with cultivation pills, dharma treasures, spirit plants, magical beast parts, qi technique manuals and countless other things.

Scrolling through was easy enough. He just had to think about it.
Divine Demon System is there a search function?
Nothing.
Is there something to eat or drink in the system shop?
[One Nutrition Pill 1 BQE]
[One Cup of Spirit Water 2 BQE]
[One Bag of Spirit Rice 5 BQE]
.
.
.
[One Heart of a Dragonlord with a Cultivation in the Immortal Realm 20.000.000 BQE].
.
.
.
[One Liver of a Fire Phoenix with a Cultivation in the Golden Immortal Realm 500.000.000 BQE]
It changed, into a really long list, but searching works. That's nice.
He changed to the system inventory since he couldn't afford to buy anything anyway.
[Starter pack]
That was all.
Open starter pack.
[10x Blood Qi Essence]
[10x Nutrition Pill]
[10x Spirit Water in 1x Gourd]
[1x Eternal Divine Demon Cultivation Scripture]
[1x Shining Blood Demon Body Cultivation Manual]
[1x The Demonic Path of Immortality, a Cultivation Journey]
[Blood Demon Yin Spirit Roots]
[Sacred Demon Yang Constitution]
Sounds like a really generous starter pack.
Both the spirit roots and the constitution don't have a quantities number.
They probably can't be taken out and will directly affect my new body. My new goblin body.
*sigh*
Sacred demon yang constitution first and then the blood demon yin spirit roots, that's the order how I want to take them, but....
.. first I should look for a safe place in case I pass out or something.
That's what he wanted to think at the end, but the system interrupted him by activating the blessings and reworking his new body.
First the constitution and then the roots.
He was broken apart from his skin to his organs and deeper.
And then he was healed and renewed.
In an unending circle.
He wanted to scream but couldn't get his jaw to open, because his teeth were pressed so hard together that he was scared they would crumble and break apart.
It was an indescrebable agony he felt.
And then his teeth really cracked and crumbled.
After that new ones grew out of his bloody gums.
He let out a guttural moan.
He vomited blood, pissed and shat himself.
The pain felt like it would torment him forever but after some time it was finally over.
He felt completely exhausted.
Hunger and thirst gnawed at him.
He lay on the floor again.
He fought to sit up and lean against the stone wall.
Inventory give me a nutrition pill.
Nothing.
*sigh*
*cough* *cough*
System inventory, one nutrition pill!
It would be best if it spawned in my right hand.
There wasn't even some kind of light effect.
A white pill appeared in his right hand. Just like that.
The pill glowed almost unnoticably.
It looked much too good to be in his dirty green hands.
Quickly he put the pill in his mouth.
It dissolved fast and flowed through his throat in his body.
Almost immediately his stomach relaxed and his hunger was soothed.
What a miraculous pill.
He didn't want to waste even a little of the spirit water only for normal thirst. Maybe he felt a little thirstier than normally.
Spirit water was for sure useful for cultivation and he wanted to safe it.
But he was thirsty now and this body needed it after the torture it had gone through.
This is my body now, even if I don`t want it to be.
It's small, rampaged, green and most propably ugly, but it is mine.
I have to take good care of it.
He got the spirit water out of system inventory.
A gourd appeared in his hand.
It looked well made.
It was`t even full.
What a rip off.
Or I could be thankful for the greater capacity when I fill the gourd with normal water later.
He opened the stopper and took a sniff.
Only smelling its scent was invigorating.
It completely overpowered his own stench.
He took a careful sip.
The spirit water was cool and tasted deliciously clear.
Like pure nature.
He had to think of snowy mountains and untainted springs.
Relaxation spread through his body and with it an unfathomable energy.
The aches and pains of earlier left his body completely.
His mind felt suddenly clearer and sharper than ever before.
Even in his human body he had never felt like this.
His senses strengthened. He could see better.
Energy coursed through his whole body, nourishing his muscles, bones and tendons.
His coarse goblin skin smoothened somewhat.
It was still not the healthy skin of a human, especially not the soft skin of a two year old, but better than before.
He felt fit and ready to take on the world.
He jumped up from his sitting position.
He noticed echos and sounds of activities coming from some distance away in the tunnels.
He couldn't hear that before.
Instinctively he used his nose to get more information.
The scent of winter snow and trees he came from one direction.
From the other, the one where the sounds came from, he smelled a harsh odor of shit, piss, puke, blood and smoke.
In other words he smelled others with the same stench as himself. Goblins.

Elaine is ripped from this world to Pallos, a land of unlimited possibilities made real by a grand System governing classes, skills, and magic. An ideal society? What is this, a fantasy novel? The story starts off slowly, more like a slice of life than action-adventure, but it gets there! I’m going to be posting M-W-F I do know how the story ends, and I promise if it ever gets dropped, or I stop doing this, I will post the ending. There will be no random “this is the last chapter” out of the blue. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

The Edge of Endless
Due to some unforseen and significant life events, this story will be on hiatus for a time. Reborn into a strange but familiar world, Alex makes it his mission to uncover the mysteries of governments, gods, and the arcane realm known only (and inaccurately) as the Unending Depths. Slowly but surely, he grows in ability and meets new and interesting people. tEoE is an epic fantasy LitRPG with a focus on plot, writing, and hopefully original twists on the standard formula of 'MC picks cool class, levels up'. Give it a read if any of the following appeals to you: > 3000-5000 words per chapter, chapters released at least once per week, usually several times. Expect good grammar. > Story focus on illusions, secrets, and traps (along with the usual combat and character stuff). > Progression fantasy, but one where progress is meant to feel earned, moderately paced, and reasonable. Some advantages, but not big, unfair ones. > If a random reader can work out that putting a big rock in a bag of holding, lifting it, and then dropping the rock is free energy, then so could an adventurer who's owned a bag of holding for twenty years. Side characters have brains too. > Blue boxes! Levels! [Classes]! [Skills]! Loot! > No uncomfortable sexist undertones. Ambivalent about including relationships. Definitely no harems. There are a number of arcs planned and this will be ongoing for some time. I am very appreciative of the kind reviews and comments left so far.

It is a tale of adventure, of lies and deceit, of love lost and found, of bravery and cowardice and where every one of our heroes and villains alike strive to find the answer to the same question: who is the being behind the Mansion of the Woods?
