《Solitude's Requiem》Magic 101

“Edwin, huh? What a curious name. I would associate that name with someone who actually has some mann.....”
“You said you're going to teach me magic, right?” I say in a rapid voice that shows my growing annoyance. 'I don't know if I'm happy that the first person I meet is someone who can't shut up or if I actually enjoyed the years alone more.'
I thought I would be screaming with joy as soon as I met someone again. Yet I still feel empty for one reason or another. 'Is it because I'm mentally exhausted from being here for so long or is it because I'm a shade demon?'
“Indeed, the trip to Lucille's light will take around 2 years, so plenty of time to get acquainted with the ways of mana.”
“Two more years.” I say under my breath.
“Do you have any idea how to activate your mana?”
“No, well, I guess I succeeded once. I did manage to manifest you, or whatever that was.”
“That was more ritualistic, so don't give yourself too much credit.” He says, quickly crushing my self-esteem.
“Mana is something that is very innate for demons or other races who are born with a high aptitude. You use it as if it is an extension of your body or senses. For example, when looking at someone and trying to know more about this person. You have to mentally ask yourself to know more about this person. This will then coincide with your internal mana flow that will enhance the necessary senses to gather information.”
“What type of information would you gather?” I ask with my curiosity peaked.
“This calls for our first lesson, doesn't it? My dear Edwin!” He yells…again.
“Try to look at yourself. Ask yourself: What am I, What can I do, and the other questions that you want to know. Come on, try it!”

I try to think about what I can only hope is an accurate explanation, and try to project my mental questions into anything of note. That's when I think back at the stone tablet and how those descriptions came to be.
It took me about a minute as something was suddenly projected into my mind.

A Fate Shaped by Magick
This fiction was (and is) published on fanfiction dot net under the same title; though as I slowly transfer it to here, I am editing and smoothing it. This story takes place in the Elder Scrolls (TES) Universe mostly ending up in Morrowind. This is a slice of life meant to answer the questions of how (in the TES universe) do mages study and learn, and exploring some of the in-game differences between TES 2 and 3. This book has minimal spoilers for the Morrowind main quest and does not fully explore it. If you think that giant insects would make cool pets - if you like the idea of exploring magic NOT intended simply as killing something better, faster or more gore-ridden, then come on in and enjoy.
