Chapter 128: Zen and Shaonu vs Geyi Kun
Wang Zen covered his face with the sleeve of his jersey. He looked at Xue Shaonu whose arms moved as a circle, ki rising from her. Her hands were clasped together likein a prayer before she thrust her arms out to the side. Ki expanded out of her, washing over the area before disappearing.
She breathed a sigh of relief after, which confused Zen.
Geyi Kun produced another small ball and crushed it in her hands and studied the blue smoke rising from it. “You clensed the air.” She said in surprise.
“That’s why I could not figure out why I have been poisoned.” Shaonu said bitterly. “They say that the ninja have a poison that is tasteless, odourless and colourless once it mixes in with the air.”
“You are smart, Princess.” Kun said. “No wonder you’ve been able to live this long.” She took out a scroll from her person. “A good thing that I hae more than one trick up my sleeve.” She said as she unrolled the scroll with one pull. “I, Geyi Kun, invoke the Geyi Kun-Hyena Summoning Contract to call forth, the Brown Hyenas!” She touched the contract to the floor.
Three circles appeared, one on either side of her and a third in front of her. Yellow light shot out of the circles and a brown hyena was standing in the centre of each.
Zen was almost shocked to paralysis. He could still defend his friend at all the accusations; he could defend Kun if she was accused of using an untraceable poison; he could defend her from trying to kill Shaonu with a custom knife while she was being attacke but this… the evidence was too much. She was the assassin.
“Wang Zen, deal with the Hyenas, I’ll deal with Geyi Kun.” Shaonu said.
“Get them!” Kun commanded before the blood thirsty Brown Spotted Hyenas charged forward.
“No, I’ll deal with Geyi Kun!” Zen said before taking off.
“Zen…” Shaonu tried but t was too late.
He leapt over the first hyena and side stepped the second one. Shibi came alight with fire as he engaged the third one, allowing him to focus on Geyi Kun. He punched at her but she diverted it with her forearm before answering wth a low sweeping kick.

His knees buckled and he was looking up at an oncoming fist from Kun. He rolled out of the way and the fist cracked the ground. Leaping to his feet, he whipped his leg in a slow kick, which she easily blocked. She countered with another punch that he ducked under. Bringing her forearm back round, she tried to hit him over the head but he blocked with his own, their striggling arms creating an X.
“Kun Kun,” Zen said. “What’s going on? Who is making you do this. Tell me and I can help.”
“No one is making me do this!” She said as he tried to punch hm but he dodged by leaping back.
He willingly went on the defensive, reluctant to attack her.
“You have been tricked, Wang Zen.” She said as her attack became more fierce. “No one has made me do anything that I would not willingly do myself!” Her left hand curled into a shining fist that sparkled.
Zen knew the ki technique well. Dazzling Jab! The fist found a home on Zen’s ribs during a careless opening he presented. The attack stunned him, and he wobbled on his feet.
“Accept it, Crooked Nose and you might live longer.” She said before slamming a ki powered punch, with all her weight behind it, into his face, which sent him flying away and crashing into a wall.
With Zen out of the way, she focused on Xue Shaonu who was doing a good job fending off the hyenas along with Shibi. She charged at them, throwing another powerful punch with the added momentum.
Shaonu side stepped it but when she was about to counter at her exposed bac wth a palm strike, one of the hyenas stepped in to protect Kun, taking the attack instead.
“Mind Thorn!” Kun said before a thorn made of ki grew from her forehead. She slammed her head forward and with little tiem to react, Shaonu had no choice but to block. As soon as she did the thorn stabbed into her and her arm went dead as she retreated.
“This feeling.” She remarked. “It’s the same one as I had when I was fighting these hyenas in the forest. You truly are a sly one, Geyi Kun.”

“Flattery won’t save your life.” Kun said before thrusting her hand out. “Finish her off!”
The hyenas attacked and Shaonu struggled to fend them off with only one functioning arm. A hyena attacked her from her unguarded side while she was dealing another. Shibi came just in time, punching the hyena with a firey fist that sent it retreating with a whimper.
Kun appeared out of nowhere and caught Shaonu with a punch that sent her Shibi, who she fell into, sliding along the ground.
Shaonu ignored the pain as she pulled a white scroll out of her boot. “Your not the only one who can summon.” She bit the edge of the scroll and pulled at it, unrolling it before slamming it int the ground with her good hand. “I, Xue Shaonu, invoke the Xue Shaonu-Silicy Contract and call forth, Silicy, The Great Snow Dove!”
A circle appeared before her and a light shone out.
The hyenas converged on the spot but were blown back, their bodies partially covered in ice. Silicy screached, declaring war on anyone who would take her or Shaonu on.
“Heh, I guess I better get serious.” Kun said as she produced a storage stone. A pill appeared from the stone into her hand and she ate it.There was a sudden surge of power that emanated from her as her cultivation base grew a few times over.
“So she is the assassin?” Silicy said.
Shaonu nodded, a bitter look on her face.
A killing intent rose from Silicy before she charged forward for her.
Unafraid, Kun did the same, fending off the icy wind the Snow Dove sent her way. She leapt in the air to escape the chilling wind and came down Silivy like a meteor. “Crushing Body Slam!”
Silicy opened her white wings in full, and a raging wind erupted from her, not only slowing her descent but also pushing her to the ceiling. The three hyenas came after her but Xue Shaonu stepped in front of her and protected her from the hyenas.
“I’ll protect you, Silicy.” She said as she beat a hyena with a palm strike. “Freeze her!”
And Freezing her, Silicy did. Ice began crawling over Kun’s body, impeding her movement. She gritted her teeth before a thorn grew from her forehead. She focused and it shot out of its place and made contact with Silicy’s wing.
The wing went dead and the wind stopped, allowing her to fall to the floor. She shook the ice off herself as another Thorn grew from her forehead. This time she shot it at an occupied Shaonu.
“Mistress!” Silicy cried before throwing her other wind out to take the hit. Shaonu was spared but Silicy lost allcontrol of her remaining wing, leaving them both dragging on the ground.
“Silicy!” Shaonu cried as she permanently finished off one of the hyenas.
Geyi Kun began sprinting forward for Silicy before throwing one of her powerful punches, made even more stronger because of her power boost. “Stupid, overgrown chicken!” She spat as her attack made contact with Silicy, sending her rolling away.
“Your turn, Princess!” Kun shouted as she charged at her.
She dodged and countered with a Pulsing Palm to her body. Kun was sent sliding back by the two pulses following but she was able to stop her momentum through sheer power alone before she charged again. Her hand sparkled and Shaonu knew the attack well, the Sparkling Jab.
Kun thrust her fist out, which confused Shaonu as she was still a little out of her range but then she was shocked as a sparkling phantom fist flew from Kun’s hand and hit her. She was stunned as Kun continued running forward preparing for another powerful punch.
“Now, Princess, stand still while I smash your skull in!” Kun said as she neared her target and threw a ferocious punch.
A flying kick intercepted the attack and second foot hit her, making her stumble back.
“Who…” Kun looked at the person who stopped her.
Wang Zen stood between the two girls. Blood, streaming fro his misshapen nose, painted his mouth and chin in crimson. One of his lower teeth was missing and two of his front teeth laid askew. But the most disturbing thing about him was the intense look in his eyes and the suffocating killig intent he emitted as he stared down Geyi Kun.

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
