Chapter 166: Hunting Class Disruption
The teacher continued to talk about some huge beast. Normally, Wang Zen would be excited to her about this beat during Hunting Class but he was too worried about passing the very class he was currently in. He had been gone for too long and as a result, he had fallen back in all his classes, putting him in a desperate scramble to pass the Period… more desperate than usual at least.
He knew there were two ways he could pass the class, he would have to pass the written exam with flying colours or, he would have to collect over 200 beast cores. Last year, he and Chu Jiahai had collected nearly a hundres each, all he had to do was push a little more. And it would be good training for him and Shibi, they could train their coordination.
“Yay,” he said under his breath, “One out of eight classes passed, my father will be so proud.”
There was screaming. Zen straightened up and his eyes widened. The screaming grew louder, this was a chorus of male and female voices rising in panic. The panic spread like an infection and soon enough, his own class was engulfed in it. Zen did not know where the danger was coming from, was it outside? Was it inside? All he knew was that he, like the rest of his class, should obey his basic instinct, the instinct to move!
They all evacuated the classroom and when Zen got outside, he only grew more confused. Students were running about, some were fighting and amongst them were the blue robed city enforcers, taking some of the students out. He looked around, it seemd the A Class of his year was also involved with skirmish with the blue robed men. He saw his cousins, the Jao twins, trying to get away from the violence. Fuu led her brother away, knocking away any body that got in their way. Zen knew they would be safe, especially if Jao Fuu was leading.

He was about to get away too when he saw something worrying.
Xue Shaonu.
She was on her knees, looking dazed. He looked behind her and understood why she was dazed, one of the enforcers had knocked her down with shaft of his long spear. Zen gritted his teeth and dashed to assist her.
Before he could arrive, Chen Jian appeared and took out the enforcer. Two more enforcers came from opposite sides. Shaonu was getting up to face one but Zen already knew she was moving too slow. He dashed past her and met the enforcer head on.
“Blits Fist!” His hands blurred into many as 80 fists throttled into the enforcers in the space of a second.
The guard stumbled back but his armour protected him from the worst of Zen’s attack, however, it did buy Zen some time. He looked back over his shoulder.
“Xue Shaonu, are you o…” he stopped when he noticed that Shaonu was no longer behind him. Instead she was being led away by Chen Jian who glanced back at him. Zen clicked his tongue in annoyance before he turned his attention back to the guard. But it was already too late as the guard hit him over the head with the shaft of his spear, sending his world into black…
Zen sat with other kids, nursing the bump in his forehead while groaning. He could not believe how careless he had been in the fight. He was lucky that the enforcer decided to use non lethal force because if not, he would have already been dead.
He was in a long dimly lit hall with other kids sitting around him, along the hallways. For the first hours o began being taken away by the teachers until some time passed and no teachers came. He looked around and noticed that the kids remaining were all commoners… except for him of course. Why had no one noticed that he was a noble and taken him away?

Lu Daomeng walked past the hallway. His eyes widend when he saw Wang Zen.
“You, come with me.” He said.
Wang Zen got to his feet and Lu Daomeng led him away roughly by the arm. Once they were outside, Wang Zen had to squint as the sun was blinding.
“What the hell are you doing?” Lu Daomeng said once they were outside and out of earshot of anyone. “You’re suppose to stay low and not get noticed! Did Hue Yi put you up to this?”
“Put me to what?” Zen said. “I didn’t do anything.!”
“You weren’t rebel rousing?”
“No!”
“You didn’t attack an enforcer?” Lu Daomeng said.
“No! Well… yes but attack isn’t the right word.” Zen said. “I was just protecting a friend.”
“Next time your friend is in danger from an enforcer… let him die!” he said. “Honestly, your as troublesome as your father. Leave now and meet me tomorrow night where I trained you…”
“Lu Daomeng.”
They stopped and looked to the side at Lou Shan.
“And the Boy?”
“Lou Shan?” Lu Daomeng said.
Lou Shan was flanked by some enforcers. “What are you doing with the boy?”
“He was not involved.” He said. “I’ve left only the commoners involved back there.”
“The fact that he is a noble does not excuse him from the crime.” She said.
“I know but I assure you he is not involved.” He said before looking at Zen, “Go!”
Zen walked away, hearing Lou Shan and Lu Daomeng continue their conversation. He sped up, lest Lou Shan wins in her argument against Lu Daomeng about his guilt. He got further away, with one goal, he needed to make sure Xue Shaonu was okay.

Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.
