The demon ignores the spear stabbing into its neck and successfully recovers its whip. Instead of backing away I hold tight to the spear and am raised into the air as the demon straightens up. Swinging my body I try to use my weight to drive the spear in deeper.

When that doesn't work I swing at the demon and then kick off from him using both feet. As I do I twist the spear and rip it free trying to do as much damage as possible. As I am flying away from the demon, the whip shoots out and wraps around the spear several times.

The demon gives a mighty tug but I refuse to let go of the spear and end up flying back towards the demon. As the demon catches the spear my body hits its arm, so I wrap my legs around his arm. Then using the spear I pull the demon's wrist backwards until it gives a satisfying crack.

The demon roars and lets go of the spear, but the whip is still wrapped around it. Suddenly having an idea I pull on the spear to stretch out the whip, then throw a coil of the whip over the demon's head. Then still holding the spear I let go of the demon's arm and drop to the ground.

Now the demon has to decide whether to let go of the whip or let me choke it. Unfortunately, the demon chooses a third option, it wraps the whip around its damaged arm and counters my pulling. Then it is able to easily remove the coil from around its neck, so much for that idea.

As the demon is occupied with removing the whip from around its neck I take the chance to free the spear. Once the spear is free I instantly go on the offensive, staying close to the demon so it can't use the whip. I jab repeatedly with the spear, aiming for weak points, but no matter how many times I hit it the demon doesn't seem to care.

The demon starts launching kicks and punches since he can't use the whip. As I am dodging them I am wracking my brain to try and think of a way to win this fight. The demon's body is covered in wounds, but its speed and strength haven't fallen at all.

Based on that I am starting to think that I can only kill it if I deliver a fatal blow. The problem is how to do that when the demon is bigger and stronger than me. Then I start thinking about how big the demon is, and how to use that size against it.

'The bigger they are, the harder they fall!'

So I change my attacks, I start focusing only on the demon's knees and ankles. Then once his balance is weakened I dash behind him and stab the butt of the spear deep into the ground. Only about half the spear is left above ground, then I dash back to the demon before he can turn around.

I hit the back of his knees with my shoulders and struggle with all my might to lift the demon. Even using all my strength I am barely able to lift the demon a few inches, but that is enough. Then I simply let myself fall backwards and the demon falls onto the spear with a massive thud.

Unfortunately, my aim was a little off, instead of going through its chest the spear went through the demon's left shoulder. Even with his left arm barely attached the demon starts struggling to get back up. As I sit, panting, I can barely believe my eyes, this demon is way too tough.

'Why won't you just die already!'

Not wanting to let the demon pull itself off the spear I force myself back to my feet and run over to the demon. I jump up and land on his chest with both feet forcing him back down. Then I flatten my hand and drive my claws straight into his throat.

'Good timing!'

The demon reaches up with his right hand and grabs my head and starts to squeeze. Instead of trying to break free I stab my hand into his throat again and again. At this point I am all out of energy, it is down to do or die, either I will kill him or I will die.

Of course I won't actually die, I will just fail the test, but that doesn't matter as I just keep stabbing my hand into his throat. It is only when my hand hits the ground beneath him that I come back to myself and realize that the demon is already dead. Even in death his right hand is still gripping my head and it takes me a minute to force it off.

'Well, that one will certainly come in handy!'

After catching my breath for a minute I use my claws to cut open the demon's chest. Ignoring the burning blood I pull out his heart and start eating it. The blood burns my mouth but other than that the taste isn't too bad.

Devour activated! Endurance +100, Toughness +50, Fortitude +100!

'So that is why he wasn't affected no matter how many times I hit him!'

Just as I am coming to this realization and enjoying my new title and stat the circle of fire around me starts to die down. As it does I can see all of the remaining ettins are gathered around the circle. They stare at me in shock since I am currently crouched on top of the demon and eating its heart.
