《I Died and Got Summoned to Another World as a WHAT?!?!》Ep. 511 The Temple of Earth Part 5

Thinking that I should get the flash of light when I reach it I ignore everything else and just rush for the dot. Unfortunately, to my disgust, when I reach the fourth dot and it disappears from the map a fifth dot appears.
This fifth dot looks to be about a thousand miles further into the heart of the desert. Ignoring the giant hyena that was guarding the forth dot I head towards the new dot. It tries to chase me but it is no match for my speed and I can't be bothered with it.
Even with my speed it takes me two days to reach the area of the fifth dot. As I get close to the dot the sand dunes are replaced by hardpan making it easier to move. At this point I am sick of this stupid test and just want it to be over already.
The earlier tests where I just had to kill a certain number of things were much less annoying. While not much time is passing outside, it still feels like I am wasting a lot of time in here. If I got benefits from the tests I'm sure I would feel differently about the tests.
As I near the last dot, the location is fairly easy to recognize, after all there is a pyramid ahead of me. Judging from the map the dot is pointing to the center of the pyramid and I doubt I can cheat by running up the outside. So when I reach the entrance of the pyramid I resume my normal form and walk inside.
To get through the entrance I have to duck my head and my shoulders are rubbing the walls. Once past the entrance it stays the same, making it awkward for me to move. This place seems to have been built to be claustrophobic for humans, let alone someone my size.
Not surprisingly, the inside of the pyramid is a maze, with lots of connecting corridors and dead ends. Surprisingly, I don't encounter any monsters or traps inside the maze. So it just takes trial and error to find the way through the maze, more time wasted.

When I finally reach the center of the maze I find a mummy standing before a portal. Through the portal I can see an unbelievable amount of wealth and treasures. As soon as I am done examining the situation I rush at the mummy and hit him in the chest with both hands.
Then with a surge of strength I throw the mummy into the portal. As soon as the mummy enters the portal, the portal snaps down on him like a mouth and I can hear crunching noises and chewing sounds. Then I get the normal flash of light and I am back in the real world.
Looking around I spot Lizzy and Ekard curled up in front of the tent taking a nap. Since they were playing when I left at least some time has passed out here. I meditate for a few minutes to recover the energy I used to shapeshift and then place my hand on the stone.
Time to see what the sixth test is going to be like, hopefully it won't be another time waster. When the flash of light passes I find myself deep in a huge forest. When the preparation period ends I get a message instead of a map, it says "Catch the white rabbit!".
'What? Am I Alice now?'
Since I am going to be chasing a rabbit through a forest I decide to use the wolf form instead of Lizzy's. After all, while the wolf may be slower than Lizzy it will have an easier time fitting between trees. Once I have shifted I start circling the area looking for tracks or the scent of the rabbit.
Hopefully, the white rabbit is the only rabbit in the forest, otherwise this might just be impossible. After about an hour of circling out from the starting spot I finally catch the scent of a rabbit. I immediately start tracking it, although the scent is old it should still be possible to track.
After a few hours of tracking the scent through the forest I finally find the rabbit. Unfortunately, it is not the white rabbit, it is a normal brown rabbit. Out of frustration I pounce on the rabbit and eat it, which makes me feel a bit better.

With no other clues to go on I pick a random direction and set off. I just have to hope I will get lucky and cross the rabbit's path at some point. Over the next several days I track down and eat dozens of rabbits, but I still haven't found the white rabbit.
Since I also haven't found an end to the forest I am starting to think that this method won't work. Out of curiosity I return to my normal form and try flying up above the trees. To my surprise it actually works, apparently this test doesn't restrict flying.
'I am an idiot! Why didn't I try flying sooner?'
Once I am done berating myself I start flying around above the forest looking for the rabbit. Since it is white it should be fairly easy to spot if I can just get into the same area as it. If I hadn't wasted days trying to track it down as a wolf I might have already cleared the test by now.
Now I run into the problem that if I fly too high my eyes aren't good enough to spot anything. Yet if I fly low where my eyes are fine it takes too long to search an area. So I land and start building the image of an eagle in my mind, which as usual gets modified by the spell when I am done.
Form added: Black King Eagle!
'I get black eagle, but where did king come from? Why does it seem the more forms I add the more they change?'
Luckily, I already know how to fly so I have an easy time adapting to the new form. As I had hoped the eyes of an eagle are amazing, even from a mile up I am able to spot tiny animals. This allows me to search huge areas quickly and it only takes me a few hours to find the white rabbit.
Once I spot it I maneuver around so the sun is at my back and begin a dive. This way my shadow won't warn the rabbit and it won't be able to spot me until it is too late. As for the rabbit, it is just sitting there, it isn't moving at all, not even when I grab it.
As soon as my talons close around the rabbit I get the flash of light showing I have completed the test. As soon as the light fades I look to check on Lizzy and Ekard, they are both awake. Since it seems at least a few hours have passed I go sit down with them and start making some food.
Lizzy 'How is the progress?'
'I've completed six out of the ten tests. Four more and the temple should open.'
Lizzy 'Good, it's getting harder to keep Ekard entertained. He really just wants to be with you.'
Looking down at Ekard, who is sitting in my lap waiting for food, I find it hard to argue with Lizzy. He is acting just like Kechara and Asuna did when I first started taking care of them. At least he doesn't have the trauma of having watched me kill his mother like they do.
Ekard says "Mama! Don't burn!"
"Haha! Okay, here you go!"
Lizzy 'I would also like my portion unburnt please!'
'Sorry, I was lost in my memories.'
Once everyone is done eating and Ekard is settled down I return to the temple gates. After placing my hand on the stone and the normal flash of light I find myself feeling cold. Looking around all I see is endless white, it seems this test is going to be unpleasant.

Runicka: Tournament of Monsters (A GameLit Card Game Fantasy)
The runes are changing, and with it, the game itself changes. Taygion Ardwella finds himself stranded, alone, and on the run from some very determined guards who claim Tay's stolen from them. They're right, but that shouldn't mean Tay has to give back what he took. He's only been in Stormwall for a week and already, he's earning the ire of the most powerful and notorious House that controls the city's underground. And when their scion challenges Tay to a duel of cards, Tay will find himself thrust into a game of sorcery and strategy as he attempts to both find a way out of this mess and find his own way in the world. To do both, he'll need to learn to accept guidance and coaching where it's sorely needed, craft a deck of unimaginable power, and not die whenever his opponents try and cheat him out of a hard-earn victory. But not all is as it seems in the shadows of Stormwall, and if Tay can figure out the importance of what it is he's stolen, he may just have a chance at saving the game of Runicka. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Runicka: Tournament of Monsters is a high fantasy, card game-based adventure novel with enough magic, worldbuilding, and characters to fill a Sanderson series. I would consider it a part of the GameLit subgenre. This series in particular is not an isekai, and will start and end in a high fantasy setting complete with its own lore and backstory. It is a progression fantasy, and I am writing it inspired by all the Yu-Gi-Oh mangas/animes, and all the hours I've invested/wasted (depending on who you ask) playing TCGs like Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic: The Gathering. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is a work in progress. In your journey through Stormwall alongside Tay, you'll probably find typos, grammatical errors, and maybe a confusing sentence every once in a while (although I hope to keep these to a minimum). That said, comments and suggestions on where I can improve are not only encouraged but greatly appreciated. And finally, expect new chapters every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~**Currently on a small hiatus. I have a bit of a workplace crisis going on. I'm still writing, but I don't have time to polish and publish. Chapters will return on a regular basis soon though!!**
