《Potestera- Race for Power》Ch 62 The Hunt Outside the City

After my last session of training during that day I immediately headed out with my gear to an area I had marked out that was relatively close by.
It was a small forested valley area to the South of the West Coast Road.
It was about 10 miles away from the City and although it wasn’t far it was difficult to access.
There wasn’t anything too crazy around the area other than a small creek, by the time I got to the zone it was already close to evening.
There was still plenty of light out, and the weather was great, but I had to be quick in this small hunting expedition if I wanted to make it back to the City before dark.
As I had said there was actually no big game in this small patch of inaccessible wilderness, but what the Map signaled that there was, was an animal that was Otter-like that had the energy signal of Magical Energy.
Once I got to the area I made sure to get real quiet and hide myself by some bushes by the creek.
The Guider helped to pinpoint the location of the creature in such a quick manner, I was starting to think that if all Hunters had this type of equipment when hunting beasts, being a Hunter was pretty sweet.
I figured that by myself I would have no shot at finding this kind of creature through my own devices, in less than a day as I had done right now.
With the Guider it was only a matter of traveling to the creature's location, truly a cheap method.
Soon I reached the exact spot where the Guider said the creature was located, but when I looked around I found no sign of the creature.
I double checked and looked towards the direction of where the Guider pointed at, only to see an empty spot of the running creek.

But soon I saw bubbles start to emerge from the surface of the water, and a gray blue colored head popped out.
It was the creature I was looking for.
Immediately I took a picture with [Image Capture Mode], and clicked the [Analyze Image] option.
Soon a message popped out on my Guider.
[ updating profile report on lifeform… update successful.]
I again clicked on the creature's green icon and now it was more detailed than before.
It Showed the image I took, as well as a full body image the Guider acquired from somewhere.
[Creature Profile Species: River Elemental Otter Energy Signature: magical energy- blue mana- water attribute specialist Size: medium size dimensions Information: fish eating magical creature of a solitary nature that is often hard to spot because of its ability to completely blend in with its aquatic environment due to its magical abilities. Its pelt is highly prized as excellent material to make clothes, leathers, and fabrics of special quality and attributes. Despite its magical nature and its carnivorous diet it's a very easy going creature and not very dangerous or aggressive even when attacked preferring to hide and run rather than fight.]
This was it; this was the kind of creature I needed to hunt the most.
I took out my Elemental Slingshot, fearing my handmade slingshots didn’t have what it took to take out this creature in one shot.
From what I read from the Guider I only had one shot to kill the creature before it ran away otherwise things would get difficult.
Even so, I knew sometimes the power my slingshot used was a bit of an overkill so I used one of the smallest pebbles I had as part of my ammo.
Once I set up my shot I took aim with my slingshot, the creature still poking its head out the water in curiosity.

I made sure to keep as quiet as possible while holding my breath until I was able to get a clear shot.
Once I felt like I had it, I released the pebble from the slingshot in an instant.
The slingshot was incredibly silent but the noise of the pebble flying through the air and hitting something was quite loud.
A couple birds in the area got startled and flew into the air.
I had done it, it was a clean shot right through the creature's head.
Although the creature did manage to sense danger at the last second, by the time it noticed the threat it was too late, and the pebble had gone right through its brain.
Soon the whole body of the Otter floated up to the top of the river exposing the rest of the creature's lifeless body.
I immediately got to work and used the pole of my spear to drag the Otter over to the bank of the creek.
Once I got a hold of the creature I was surprised at how big it actually was.
Its main body was about 4 feet long and it had a long tail that was about 3 feet long.
The color of its pelt was gorgeous. I could see why people would pay good money for material like this.
I went to work on preserving the Otters body parts.
I had prepared the necessary ingredients before I had left the City.
I went on to treat the organs, and flesh with the preservatives, and used the correct containers and wraps to seal the parts.
Soon the sled which I had brought along as my backpack, but that I had now put on the ground, was full of the beast's parts.
With my quick and successful hunt I managed to get back to the City with my stuff right before it got dark.
Every time it got dark the noises and screams of the beasts of the wild could be heard all throughout the land.
It was everyone’s nightmare to be stuck out there alone at night.
I somehow managed to do it for 2 years, granted for the most part I had company, but still it wasn’t always peaceful nights.
Soon I arrived at the old man's house in the crappy neighborhood.
Even at that late of a time the streets were still lively.
Once I went inside I found the old man had already gone to sleep.
I put away my recent loot into a corner of my room, making a mind to build a storage container for the stuff I was going to have, the next day.
I decided to call it a successful day and turn over to sleep my tiredness away.

The Dangers of a Double Life
Arthur Tracz is an IT technician, a loving husband and excellent friend. Aoife Brosnan is a courier, good daughter, and a volunteer. Gary White is a detective, ex-husband, and a father. They appear to be your average citizens, yet they harbour secrets some of which are so dark that if they were to be revealed they would end up on the top of the news on the international level. These people have no connection to each other, yet their double lives will lead to their fates interweaving. Their lives will never be the same. That is... if they survive. This story was originally supposed to be game, but due to me working on more important project and because most likely I would never have time and funds to do it. I decided to write it as a book which gives me more options in pursuing its narrative. Chapters will be released one a week, Sunday, 14 am CET.
