Chapter 2
Three months.
Elizabeth Diamond.
Area/Time: NYC 2013.
“THREE MONTHS?!” Sarah Reyes yelled as she burst into my office, her footsteps echoing off the walls as she speed walked towards my desk. She was dressed in her white lab coat, her black hair tied into a bun instead of her usual, messy hair over her brown skin. Sarah was quite the active girl, even when I knew her in high school.
“Oh,” I said, “Hello Sarah, how was the party?”
She sighed a great sigh as she slumped into the chair across from me, “We only have three months to make a magical gas?!”
I rolled my eyes, “It’s not magic..but yea, you get the idea.”
Her eyes were coated with fury, “did you tell him that we have a sample?”
I took off my glasses and folded them in my lap, “No, best not to show all our cards just yet.” I advised.
She calmed down a bit, “Okay good, but three months isn’t enough time for safety tests if he wants this to work on humans.”
I nodded, “ I know.. I think we should skip some of those tests.”
She gasped, “You want to test a stress dependent gas on humans without safety tests?!”
I winced, “We would still do some of them...just not the long ones! And the way you say it makes us sound evil.”
Sarah looked like she was about to lose it, “THE LONG ONES ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT!”
The only reason I was letting her yell at me was because we were pretty close... and she was basically my only employee,
“Well I am not letting this project slip away!” I said defensively, “The good news is that I have a monkey test already approved and ready. We can do up to two months of safety testing in cell culture, then in the third month, the monkey should arrive and we can start the primate studies.”

Sarah thought about this for a moment before replying, “Fine. Let’s get to work.”
I tied my blonde hair into a bun, like Sarah’s, before checking my reflection on my desk mirror for any loose hair. It was kind of hard to see on my pale skin but I looked neat. We both stood up and began walking down my office hallway to the lab door. Halfway through the walk I looked down at Sarah by my side, “You know,” I said, “I’m supposed to be the one who gets to say ‘Let’s go to work.’ ”
Sarah smirked, but didn’t say anything.
I smiled as we reached the door.
“Three months,” I said, placing my hand on the door knob.
Sarah followed me inside the lab and cracked her knuckles, “Starting now..”

In the darkest shining void, an ethereal being holding a scepter floats toward a nebula made up of the souls of the dead from all realms awaiting to be reutilized into the cycle. They aren't a deity of death, but one tracking an anomaly that can't be processed and completely wiped clean as they enjoy calling it. A fresh start, without shackles or remnants of what once was. Life is a price paid by all living beings, but like any transaction, we give it something in exchange for our memories, our feelings, our emotions, our past, and future, our ambitions and our dreams. Those all fuel the fire of creation, but so do grief, and pain. Every moment of suffering is the price, every living moment is paid at our death. Sometimes some have so much piled up that their soul and heart end up damaged. Be it loss of trust or being unable to truly live their life, those shackles are like an anchor that keeps the soul stable when on the verge of breaking apart, keeping it together at an immense price. Those unlucky souls are forced to be put into another life indebted, in the unlikely possibility of their defect healing themself in that new life. Their memories aren't intact after all—everything has a price—and that pain and fear are what they carry, while their partial amnesia is their shackle. This is the story of one such soul, of a girl sent into a world of legend and novel of fantasy, dragons and magic. A world away from what she knew, in which she will hopefully heal, be happy, and survive its side of darkness. This Book
The author, Edward Faust is aware that “This Book” does not really describe what this book is about. We shall pretend that it is a meta artistic choice but the reality is that Mr. Faust is bad at coming up with titles, and since starting This Book back in 2015 as a NaNoWriMo project he could never come up with a good one. This Book’s genre is YA Supernatural, but that’s only as helpful as any genre tag (IE: not very) so I shall describe it further. This Book is primarily about reincarnation, but it also features mythical creatures such as angels (known here as Seraphs), demons, Byzantines, as well as homeschoolers. Two mythical homeschoolers in fact make up the main characters of this work, a pair of siblings named Grayson and Kish. They live in metro Atlanta in the year 2019 AD with their Aunt. On one particular day they are plunged into a rabbit hole of spiritual and metaphysical politics by the arrival of a mysterious one-eyed Green haired woman and strange humanoid creatures into their lives. That is where the story begins. Yes. This book can also be found at https://thisbook.home.blog/
