《I Just Want To Be A Blacksmith》13: I just want to cut trees II

There are some situations where a person thinks they can handle the situation, but in reality, 9 out of 10 people who think this way when they are in this situation, die.
Rhax is in one of these situations, he didn’t think it through. He was facing off three people alone, and one of them has a bow, while his only weapon is an axe.
“Oh, you are so confident, One-Eye.” The leader of the bandits smirked at Rhax’s declaration. He turned to the ugly woman. “Matilda, put an arrow in that ‘Direwolf Slayer’s’ body for me.”
Matilda didn’t even hesitate and drew an arrow from the quiver on her back and knocked it in her bow. “Sure thing, Boss.” She said and then released.
Rhax didn’t even have the time to say a word as the interaction happened in a matter of seconds. His body was knocked to the left, intense pain shot through his nerve system making him scream his lungs out. He fell down to his knees, he looked at the wound, it was an ugly thing. The arrow was sticking out of his left shoulder, the tip was embedded inside his shoulder, tender red flesh was visible from the entrance of the wound. There was no blood as the arrow stopped the blood flow.
Rhax calmed himself forcefully. He had to calm himself or he would get killed here and then his journey would end before it even began. He heard the sound of a twig snapping in front of him, he looked up from his wound and saw the ugly woman with the bow. She was smiling in a disgusting way, she crouched in front of him then lifted his chin with one hand until he looked her in the eyes. “This will not be the only scar you will get from me; I’ve been told I’m a rough lover.” She was very close to him, if she moved a little bit forward then she could kiss him.
Rhax was not thinking right at the moment as the shock of him getting shot had jumbled his mind. So, he was running on instinct, thus, it was no surprise when he jumped on the woman, knocking her to the ground. Then using his teeth, biting into her neck while she screaming for him to stop.
His teeth bit into her tender neck flesh, specifically at the windpipe. Matilda was scratching and hitting him, but he was stronger and larger than her. Then like the direwolf he killed he ripped open her throat using his teeth. Blood was pouring like a fountain and it all splashed on his face.
“Matilda!” Shiv and the leader shouted at the scene. Rhax stood up, he was holding his axe in his right hand, his face was colored red with blood and he was chewing on something. He spat it out and it rolled, it was a cylinder thing. It was Matilda’s windpipe.
The arrow’s body was still sticking out of his body, so using his axe, he chopped off the body, leaving only the tip that was inside his body. Even though his mind is jumbled, he still has his basic knowledge, and he was aware that if he took out the arrowhead then he would bleed out before he could get help.

‘Aghhhh’ screams were coming from inside his head, there were no thoughts, it was like he was moving on his own without his brain steering him.
“Fucking hell, Matt, what the hell is wrong with this man?” The man with the warhammer, Shiv, asked. He was holding his warhammer tightly, and there was sweat dripping from his forehead.
Matt, the leader, was looking at Rhax, there was a new light in his eyes, it seems that he has a plan in his pocket. “I don’t know, but I have a plan, so I need you to go and fight him until I’m finished.”
Shiv didn’t question, he took a deep breath and charged at the bloody man. Rhax saw Shiv coming toward him, Shiv was taller and bulkier than him, he was also carrying a warhammer, making him one of the most dangerous combinations of a soldier.
Rhax escaped from his previous place so he could get away from the body and could fight better.
Shiv came at him with the warhammer, he swung sideways trying to hit him in the head. Rhax can’t block the blow with the axe, because the axe would break in a moment. So, he did what he thought was best, he crouched down.
Boom! Came the sound from behind him, he looked and saw that Shiv had hit a tree and there was a big chunk missing from the tree. Shiv looked at him again, and charged.
Rhax was trying to keep aware of his environment as there were a couple of tree trunks around the ground. But he failed to see the little hole underneath his footing and he found his right foot inside the hole making him immobile while there was a man charging at him with the intent of killing him.
Shiv seeing his opportunity swung again, but this time it was at his chest level. Rhax couldn’t move, he thought of taking the blow and then retaliating, but he knew it would be his death. The man had monstrous strength.
So, not caring for his foot, he leaned back. He felt and heard the sound of his muscles tearing themselves. But he didn’t stop from the pain, the adrenaline that was pumping in his system numbed him.
The blow barely touched him, it grazed some skin but it was not serious, only bruises for later. He didn’t have time to think about what had done, because the moment the blow was out of the way, Shiv was completely open.
Rhax smiled showing full teeth, then using the axe in his right hand he chopped at Shiv’s head. Shiv saw the blow coming and couldn’t dodge in time, but he threw himself to the left. Making the axe go through his left shoulder, he sacrificed his shoulder to protect his head.
“Fuck.” Rhax mumbled, his thoughts were becoming clearer, but the adrenaline was interfering with them. He had to get out of the hole and now. Thankfully it seems that the damage he did to Shiv was enough distraction for him to get out of the hole.

After freeing his foot, he held his bloodied axe in his right hand, he looked around for the man with the scimitar. He found him; he was watching the fight with a smirk on. Seeing him looking, the man with the scimitar pointed behind him with a silly smirk.
Rhax immediately turned back and raised his axe, but he didn’t find anyone. “Right here, One-Eye.” Shiv’s voice came from his left side, his blindside!
Rhax felt the air getting heavier around him, he turned his body in an awkward angle and gripped the axe with both hands. He then swung at the warhammer that was coming at him. It was his only option.
Boom! The clash only lasted a second before the wooden shaft of the axe broke and the axe head flew away from the blow.
Rhax felt the vibrations going through his whole body because of the impact. He now only held a pointy shaft in his hand, but he knew what he had to do. Shiv was completely open; he was putting his whole body into the blow which left him open afterward.
“Shiv, Run!” The leader’s voice came from behind Rhax. But Shiv didn’t have the time to run, because Rhax jumped at him holding the wooden shaft in both hands and stabbed in an overhead motion.
“Ahhhh!” Rhax screamed as the wooden shaft went into Shiv’s eye and into his brain. Shiv’s body started to spasm, his hands went limp and dropped the hammer. He then fell toward Rhax, Rhax dodged the body and crouched down to pick the warhammer.
It was a normal warhammer, not very historically accurate as the head of the hammer was bigger than usual. Rhax spat on Shiv’s body. “I’m not the Rhaegar to your Robert Baratheon.”
“You fucker!” The leader’s voice entered Rhax’s ear, he looked at the leader and was shook to see the scimitar in his hand was actually on fire, the fire was coating the scimitar like it was a mother hugging her children. The scimitar looked very intimidating.
“Ser!” The woman who started this sham called him. Rhax turned to her and she pointed at the man and started speaking. “It seems that this man is not a bandit, he is a Knight of Ash. He is an Ashien. The fire on his sword is called the Fire of the Sun! It is a fire granted by the God Shamash himself. Be careful!”
“You got to be fucking kidding me, first we have a Ygritte looking ass, then a Robert Baratheon and now a fucking Azor Ahai.” Rhax sighed, this was ridiculous. It was either he was reading too much into it, or there is someone who is orchestrating this shit.
The ex-bandit, now knight, wore a smirk on his face when he spoke. “Good job in identifying me, let me introduce myself formally. My name is Matthew Ziran, a knight in the service to His Divinity.” He made the Sun Sign. But his was different, he was using the index and the long finger and then touching the forehead, the heart, the eyes and then the mouth.
“So, why are you going after this poor girl, did your God tell you to kill an innocent girl?” Rhax questioned, he was actually curious, why is there a holy knight going after an innocent girl?
The smile was wiped from Matthew’s face. “That ‘innocent’ woman has the blood of Demons; she must be killed for the good of the world. If you walk out now, I will not go after you, these two you killed were actual outlaws I used for my purpose. I liked them, but they were still evil, and Shamash doesn’t forgive evil, I would’ve killed them after we took care of the Lady over there.”
“Demons?” Rhax asked, he then looked at the girl. “She doesn’t look like a demon to me, but a beautiful girl with a promising future.” The girl blushed, which was weird, there were two dead bodies not 15 meters away from her.
“You won’t understand, she may seem like a human, but inside her blood lies a tinge of demonic blood.” Matthew looked like he was done talking as he pointed his scimitar at Rhax and asked. “Now, would you give her to me and be a good boy or fight and die.”
Rhax looked at the woman who was shaking with fear and then looked at his condition. His right foot was a dead weight and it hurt just by stepping on it. He had a disadvantage as he just fought and was kinda tired, he only had one eye making him easy to hit. And had a weapon he never used before in his life, he of course studied how to use a warhammer. His specialty in history was ancient history, medieval and weapon history. But he has never used a warhammer before.
But…. he used a hammer to beat the shit out of metal, and maybe it is not so different, except this time he will beat the shit out of a human being.
Human beings…he killed humans!
‘Stop!’ He shouted in his head stopping his mind from going there, it was not the time.
Preparing himself, he gripped his warhammer with both of his hands, took a deep breath and spoke.
“Again, you forgot the third option. I will use this hammer and cave your chest in, harder than what Robert did to Rhaegar at the Ruby Ford!”

Tales From the Terran Republic
We tried, you know… We really did. We tried so hard to be… better… We actually were better once. No, seriously. We were enlightened, generous, peaceful… Stop laughing! We were! We were peaceful, dammit! No, I’m not “tugging your winglets.” It’s true! Look, if you’re going to be like that, I’ll just push the launch button right now. See ya, don’t wanna be… Oh, you ARE interested after all? Ok. Hey, I just got word that your captain will be ok. We were able to get him into a med pod quick enough… Of course, we tried to save him. Just what sort of people do you think we are?... Now that was harsh… completely accurate, mind you… but harsh. Anyway, like I was saying, we were a prosperous, peaceful people, and war had been nothing but a distant memory for over five hundred years before it happened... Before Yellowstone happened! You don’t mean to tell me that you didn’t know about that… massive supervolcano? Blew the Hell out of our planet? Two years where nothing grew?… Anyway, that’s what started it, the Sol Wars… Oh, you have heard about those, huh? Well, needless to say, all that enlightened, generous, and peaceful didn’t exactly make it through the two years of complete famine and the wars that followed… Maybe it’s more accurate to say the enlightened, generous, and peaceful among us didn’t survive… (laughs)… You’re right. It does explain a lot, doesn’t it? Probably for the best, though. “Enlightened” and “peaceful” aren’t really all that useful out here in the galaxy at large, are they? That reminds me; thanks for the ship. You guys did a great job with this one. Oh, don’t be like that. At least it was us what got you and not one of the really messed groups like the Harlequin or the Black Angels. We’re just going to take your shit. It could be worse… trust me... Well, anyway, we loaded the life pods down with some good food, and you guys can drink alcohol, right? We put in a couple of fifths in there, too. It’s about forty percent ethanol, so be warned. Most species will want to dilute that. We’ll drop your wounded off somewhere safe once they are stable. Your fleet patrols this area fairly regularly, and we’ll drop the distress beacon right before we jump… Well, It’s been fun and no hard feelings, right?… Oh, you want to know some more? Sure. I got time to kill… Let me tell you about this one pirate and her crew. They’re Terran scum, but they are still… Why do we hate the Terrans? Hoo Boy… How much time you got? *** It’s the thirty-second century, and humanity is now part of a galactic civilization comprised of hundreds of worlds. Humanity has been savaged by natural disaster and war and has been fractured into several separate populations, all of which loathe each other (some things never change). This is a gritty drama-driven rambling tale that swings between action, drama, horror, and plenty of very, very dark comedy. Warning: contains adult situations, absolutely horrible language, bathroom humor, implied ultra-violence, actual ultra-violence, drugs, alcohol, pirates, mercs, xeno prostitutes, moral ambiguity, deranged AI's with identity issues, giant commie space slugs, and a poor little frog girl who just wants to sell coffee. Updates twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday. *** Note: This story can get rough. Those warning tags? They aren't for show. I recently received a review and as a result I want to make one thing clear. Portraying something is NOT endorsing it! Many "heavy" topics are touched upon and just because a character says or does something does not imply that the author feels the same way. I selected the "Anti-Hero Lead" and "Villainous Lead" tags for a reason. Rule number one of this story is "no good guys". A good description of the story is, "bad people doing bad things to worse people". There are a few good characters, here and there, but they are the exception to the rule. If you want a hard-hitting, exciting, gritty sci-fi story that doesn't pull any punches, or shies away from "difficult" concepts, welcome! If you are set on a pure and noble knight that runs around and slays conveniently evil monsters and rescues totally innocent princesses... or your sensibilities are easily offended... You're not going to be happy with this one.

Returning to a New Era
“You first caught my attention when you stole the Giant’s Sovereignty. “I took note of your ability when you slew the King of Monsters. “And I found myself in awe after seeing you—” “Can you spare me the monologue? Just get me home, you tentacle porn bastard.” “…Okay.” When one leaves, one must also return; but what if the world you left was different from when you left? This is the story of a Returner’s Return to a New Era. It was Earth, but it seemed more foreign than the otherworld he returned from. I do not own the art on the cover. The Errant Otherworlder Watanabe
“In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes and trucks whom transport men to other worlds.” Meet our titular protagonist Haruto Watanabe, a man who has all the markings of a good protagonist for a generic portal fantasy story. As an overworked office worker, to escape from the grips of crippling capitalist alienation, he had taken up to reading many stories where young men like him were transported to other worlds and enjoyed their lives at a most leisurely pace. Armed with genre-awareness and (what he believes to be) a marketable personality which would make him an easy audience self-insert, he longed for the day the isekai express would take him to his long-awaited adventure to another world. When the fateful day came, where the fair yet harsh mistress that is the fabled truck took Watanabe on one last date to the other side, he was most ready to escape his previous life, ready to embark on an errant so great he’d be most overpowered, his heroics so exceptional and his harem so vast that they would barely fit ten or twenty volumes of an overly long novel made by a desperate author looking for quick cash. Lo and behold however, Watanabe instead found himself in a low fantasy world which lacked severely in the department of any game-like systems, cheat skills or easily charmed damsels in distress. In a setting so antithetical to his established genre savviness or any attempts at power fantasy, how will a man like Watanabe, lacking in strength, wits and courage, manage to survive in a land most foreign to him? This is my first time trying to share to the wider world what I’ve written, and I hope you’ll enjoy reading the errantry of Watanabe as much as I enjoy writing about them. I'll be posting one chapter per week on Sundays, along with extra chapters whenever I get the chance to write more than usual.
