《Re:World》Chapter 158: Flat Soda
Advertisement
Sachi was eating a custard-filled donut while she wiped some powdered sugar from the corner of her lips using her thumb. Namida was holding onto a rectangular-shaped one that was filled with jelly with chocolate glaze on top. Ketsueki took a bite out of a donut with a matcha glaze topped with plenty of macadamias. Shiro was sitting on the carpet on the floor while she was eating a dark chocolate donut with a chocolate gaze while she stared at the three large plates that had a mountain of donuts covering the coffee table. Reiki made his way from the kitchen while carrying a tray with tall glasses on it.
He stood on the right side of the couch as he picked a glass that had a couple of slices of cucumber and lemon. Reiki passed it to Ketsueki, he said. "Honey and cucumber water for Onee-chan." Ketsueki gave him a nod while he picked up an identical glass similar to his older sister and passed it to Sachi. Reiki said. "Sachi-san wanted the same but with mint." Sachi flashed him a smile and said. "Thank you." She held the glass with her left hand and quickly took another bite of the donut in her right.
Reiki made his way behind the couch while the three girls ate the donuts with a smile on their faces as he stood on the left side of the couch while Namida picked up another one. Reiki picked up a glass of dark liquid, he passed it to Namida who picked up a matcha donut with crushed pistachios on top. He said. "Namida-san, you asked for flat soda." Namida gave him a nod as she took the glass of his hands with her left hand, she said. "Thanks. Not curious why I asked for a flat soda?" He shook his head sideways and said. "Some marathon runners always drink flat soda thirty minutes before a race. It's an instant energy booster like banana and rice porridge, you can even eat pickled plums for better nutrition."
Namida raised a brow and thought. He knows his stuff… She raised the glass at him and said. "Not even a little bit?" Reiki made his way to Shiro who ate the last bit of chocolate donut as he passed a tall glass of orange juice at her, he said. "Don't tell me you use a template?" Namida's eyes had surprised all over them while Sachi and Ketsueki glanced at him while reaching for another donut. Shiro drank half of the glass in one go as she let out a satisfied sigh and picked up another one. Namida took a sip of her flat soda and thought. … I can let the energy food slide because he's an amazing chef who can easily make a balanced meal… But that template comment is something only football players know… Or a fighter…
Reiki spun the tray on top of his index finger while Shiro watched it spin with awe in her eyes, he said. "Anything else? The moment I start eating you're on your own." The three girls ignored him as they took a bite of the donut in their hands while watching a man fall face-first on a mud puddle. He gave them a nod and said. "I'll take that as a yes then." Reiki placed the tray between his armpit and pinched it as he turned around and made his way to the kitchen. Shiro took a bite of a chocolate glazed donut with strawberry jam filling as she stared at the three large plates of donuts in front of her. Reiki made his way to the living room with a large plate filled with nachos with alternating layers of hot melted cheese with his left hand while balancing two bowls filled with sour cream and guacamole with his right palm.

Ketsueki smiled at him and said. "Not even going to try one donut, Reiki?" Namida glanced at him from the corner of her eye as Reiki walked past her and sat in the middle of the couch. He placed the two bowls on his thighs and stared at the pile of nachos in front of him, Reiki said. "Onee-chan, you know I don't have a sweet tooth." Shiro glanced at the pile of nachos her older brother was holding and went back to enjoy her donut. Namida ate the last bit of the matcha donut and took a swig of the soda. She licked the corner of her lips clean and reached out her hand that had some stains of matcha on them. Reiki's left hand blurred as he swatted Namida's hand away.
[System: User has dealt 1 Damage.]
Ketsueki and Sachi's pupils dilated while Namida froze as she stared at the small area on the back of her hand turning slightly red. Namida thought. What just happened?... Reiki held the plate with both hands again and picked up a chip covered in melted cheese as it let off some steam, he said. "Clean your hands first before you touch my chips. I don't want the taste to mix, oh and sorry about swatting your hand away." Namida's gaze was fixated on the back of her hand while Ketsueki gave Sachi a meaningful look. Sachi faked a cough and said. "Namida, wake up. That's what you get for letting your guard down."
Namida came back from her senses as she searched through her pockets with her left hand and took out a dark blue handkerchief, she said. "Y-Yeah…" Ketsueki's eyes had a hint of suspicion in them while Shiro finished another donut and downed the rest of her orange juice. Shiro stood up from the floor while she held the glass with both her hands as she made her way to the fridge. Reiki dipped a nacho chip covered in cheese into the bowl of guacamole, he swallowed and said. "Shiro, be careful when trying to lift the carton of juice. You know how you are with… Heavy objects?"
Shiro puffed her cheeks and pouted, she said. "Why do I get the feeling you just insulted me, Onii-chan?" She made her way to the kitchen while Reiki felt the judgemental glare from Ketsueki. Namida wiped her hand clean using the handkerchief and placed it back in her pocket as she showed him her clean palm. Namida said. "Here, is this clean enough?" Reiki looked at her palm while he threw a chip into his mouth and gave Namida a nod as she picked up a few chips and dipped them into the bowl of sour cream. Namida ate the chips while Sachi quickly ate the donut in her hands and took a sip of the glass in her hands.
While Sachi reached out for another donut, she said. "I'll never understand how you can eat both sweet and salty." Namida used her thumb to wipe some sour cream off her lips, she said. "Isn't your favorite popcorn caramel with a pinch of sea salt?" She licked the sour cream off her thumb and reached for another donut. Ketsueki finished the donut in her hands as Shiro walked back from the kitchen and sat back down on the floor on the left side of the coffee table. Ketsueki and Shiro simultaneously reached for another donut, Ketsueki said. "I think what she's trying to say is that you can eat salt flavored potato chips just as fine as eating a box of donuts. Unlike the three of us." She pointed at herself, Sachi, Shiro and continued. "Would prefer to eat the donuts alone and leave the bag of chips aside."

Reiki was holding onto a chip and subconsly said. "Must be from all the drinks, I can relate." Ketsueki gave him a wide-eyed stare while Sachi gave him an odd look. Shiro was watching tv while happily eating donuts while Namida glanced at him from the corner of her eye and said. "What?" Reiki ate the chip and looked up and saw the odd looks he was receiving, he swallowed and said. "What did I say?" Ketsueki's eyes had a hint of coldness in them, she said. "Can you tell me the context for you to say that?" Reiki looked up to his older sister while he grabbed some more chips, he said. "Soda, every time I have a glass I always seem to crave something salty." The three girls' odd gazes vanished while Shiro took a sip of her juice.
Reiki dipped the chips into both the bowl of sour cream and guacamole, he said. "You thought I was a drinker just because I related to the drunkard on food?" He pointed at Namida using the plate of nachos. Namida stopped herself from taking a bite of the donut in her hands and said. "Drunkard?" Reiki rolled his eyes at her as some sour cream dripped from the chip and went back into the bowl with a hint of melted cheese. He said. "I can smell the number of beers on you." He took a single whiff at her and continued. "Wow, you already had five?"
Namida's eyes widened as she poked his shoulder and said. "Hey, how'd you do that?" Reiki chewed with his mouth closed as he pinched his nose shut, he swallowed and said. "Can you please don't talk when you're facing my way? I can smell it from here." Sachi let out a chuckle as she ate her donut in peace while Ketsueki gave Namida a disappointing shake of her head. Reiki ate more chips while Namida kept on shaking his left shoulder, she said. "Don't can't tell me you smelled the alcohol from my breath?"
She placed a cupped hand in front of her mouth and slowly exhaled, Namida thought. All I smell is some residue of the breath mints I took before coming back here. Namida placed her right hand on Reiki's shoulder and said. "Reiki, tell me. I won't tell anyone else." He was about to eat a handful of chips with plenty of melted cheese as Reiki placed it back onto the pile and tried to wave the air in front of his face with some cheese on his hand. Reiki turned his head as he looked up to Sachi and said. "Sachi-san, can you make her stop? The smell is becoming more unbearable for me."
Sachi placed a hand on her lips while she was chewing, the expression on her face stiffened. Sachi thought. He's not lying… She glanced at Ketsueki from the corner of her eye and saw the hint of confusion in her eyes. Sachi stared at the strawberry jelly that was in the middle of her donut and said. "Namida, how about you change seats with Ketsueki?" Ketsueki shoved half a donut into her mouth, stood up, and started chewing normally. Namida moved her gaze onto Sachi as she pointed at Reiki and said. "I refuse to believe he smelled the amount of beer I drank."
Ketsueki made her way around the couch from the back as she wiped her lips clean by using her thumb. Namida continued. "I would be inclined to believe him if he told me it was just a lucky guess." Ketsueki was standing on Namida's left while Reiki swallowed some chips in his mouth and said. "I can tell if your glasses had a prescription from a glass but you call me lucky by guessing the number of cans you drank."
Ketsueki paused for a moment before she tapped on Namida's shoulder which got her attention as she turned to look up to her. Namida wiped some powdered sugar from the corner of her lip and said. "What?" Ketsueki nodded at the armchair at the right side of the room and said. "Let's switch seats for the moment, I wouldn't have to do this if you weren't disturbing my boy eating and Shiro watching tv." Namida glanced at Shiro who was happily eating donuts while watching a documentary about baby hippos.
She shrugged her shoulders, stood up, and said. "Fine." She walked past Sachi who was also watching a baby hippo trying to swim for the first time. Ketsueki sat down on Reiki's left and placed her right arm around his shoulders while Sachi stole glances at them from the corner of her eye. Ketsueki reached out with her left hand toward the pile of chips as she was about to grab some Reiki moved the plate away. Her gaze slightly narrowed as she looked down on her younger brother and said. "Heh. Reiki, since when, were you the ungrateful type?" Reiki dipped some chips into the bowl of sourcream and looked at his older sister's palm, he said. "Hand."
Ketsueki turned her palm upward and saw traces of powdered sugar, chocolate, and some matcha on it. Ketsueki thought. Guess I ate too many in a short time. A faint blush appeared on her cheeks as she moved her right arm around Reiki's shoulders and rummaged through her pocket. Sachi rolled her eyes at them and thought. Get a room, you two. She cleared her throat and said. "On more important matters. Reiki, What are you planning on eating after dinner?" Reiki swallowed and said. "I've already made preparations for your castella and that guy's ohagi."
Sachi flashed him a small smile and said. "You didn't have to." Ketsueki took out a black handkerchief from her pocket and wiped her palms clean. Namida reached for a donut and said. "Took you long enough." Reiki moved his gaze onto his younger sister and said. "Shiro, have you done your homework yet?" Shiro took a bite of a half-eaten donut while she froze for a moment and continued as if nothing happened. Reiki raised a brow and said. "Shiro." Shiro let out a sigh and stared at the piles of donuts on the coffee table as she shoved the half-eaten donut into her mouth and quickly drank all the juice in her glass.
Everyone was stunned by her actions as Shiro quickly chewed, grabbed a couple of donuts, and stood up as she made her way to her room. Reiki moved his gaze onto his older sister and said. "She got that from you, Onee-chan." Ketsueki glanced at him and said. "Oh? What made you say that?" Reiki let out a sigh and said. "You just did it a few minutes ago." He placed the bowl of sour cream and guacamole onto Ketsueki's thigh as he passed the plate of nachos to her. Reiki stood up and said. "We'll continue this conversation after my trip to the bathroom." He took a couple of steps before stopping and looked at the three girls sitting around the coffee table. Reiki said. "When I come back the food is still going to be there, Right?"
Ketsueki looked at him oddly and said. "Of course, it will." His gaze narrowed as Reiki glanced at the three girls, he said. "Pork and cabbage gyoza. It was the first plate I placed on the dining table as it mysteriously vanished along with your porridge. When I asked you three you looked at me as if I was crazy." Sachi, Namida, and Ketsueki suddenly turned their heads as they stared at the baby hippo rolling around in the mud. Reiki continued. "That's what I thought." He let out a chuckle as he made his way to the second floor and said. "I don't care what you three do with the donuts. But if Shiro sees what you left for her, chances are she'll cry." He made his way upstairs while the three girls stared at the plates of donuts.
All of a sudden Sachi and Namida's hands blurred while Ketsueki's pupils faintly glowed. Sachi and Namida's hands were enveloped with a faint light as they couldn't move their hands. The light around their hands disappeared as Sachi and Namida glared at Ketsueki, Sachi said. "Shouldn't the host welcome their house as if they were as if they were inside their own homes?" She glanced at a donut that had some thinly sliced strawberries with some chocolate syrup drizzled on top. Namida's gaze wandered to the plate of Nachos she was holding and said. "You don't even like sour cream."
Ketsueki let out a mocking snicker, she said. "I can knock you two out within a split second without even moving my legs." She pointed at the bowl of sour cream and guacamole on top of her thighs and continued. "You two traitors weren't willing to take the fall for me when I asked. What makes you think I'll let you two eat to your heart's content?" Namida adjusted her black frame glasses and said. "It's all just a simple misunderstanding-." Her right hand suddenly blurred as she tried to reach for the plate of donuts on the coffee table. Ketsueki's pupils faintly glowed as Namida's hand easily was enveloped with a faint light. Ketsueki indifferently said. "Not happening."
Sachi's gaze narrowed as she crossed her legs and said. "Ketsueki… If you want to play this game of yours… The two of us are willing to raise the stakes." Namida's brown pupils slowly turned black while Sachi closed hers and took a deep breath. Ketsueki's gaze narrowed, she said. "I guess I need to remind both of you why I'm the leader." Reiki silently walked down from the stairs and felt the tension in the air, he thought. What the hell happened? He said. "I'm back." Reiki made his way to the couch while Namida's pupils turned back to brown as the glow in Ketsueki's eyes quickly dissipated while Sachi opened her eyes and smiled at him.
Reiki sat in the middle of the couch and took the two bowls off his older sister's thighs and placed them on his, he said. "Truth be told I expected a repeat of what happened with the elven chocolate." He thought. I didn't even see their hands move. Ketsueki passed him the plate of nachos, she said. "They took most of it." Reiki took the plate off his older sister's hands while he grabbed a handful of chips, he said. "Onee-chan, you don't need to point fingers when you have the biggest haul."
Ketsueki froze as she was about to pick up a donut while Sachi and Namida smirked at her. Reiki started devouring the chips at a rapid pace along with the two bowls of sour cream and guacamole. Ketsueki picked up a donut while Sachi and Namida did the same while watching Reiki inhale his food. Ketsueki glanced at him and softly hit his arm using her elbow, she said. "Reiki, how about you slow down?" Sachi took a bite out of a donut in her hands while Namida wiped some cream that was oozing out from the hole. Namida said. "I don't mind. I think it's oddly entertaining how he eats so much at that pace while staying clean."
Sachi nodded while eating a donut while Ketsueki gave them a narrowed gaze when all of a sudden she saw Reiki placing two empty bowls onto the plate he was holding. He stood up and moved his legs around and said. "If you need me, I'll be making your desserts." Reiki made his way to the kitchen while Sachi swallowed as she licked the corner of her lips to clean some frosting and said"Don't worry we won't bother you… While you're making dessert." The three girls sitting around the coffee table instantly moved their gazes on to the donuts. Ketsueki, Sachi, and Namida glanced at each other as the three of them took big bites of the donut they were eating. Ketsueki stretched her arms a bit as Sachi sat up straight while Namida pretended to yawn.
The three of them suddenly stood up as their arms blurred as they tried to grab a donut while preventing each other from taking one. Ketsueki had a nonchalant smile on her face while she kept her eyes on her friends, she said. "You two already ate a donut filled with whipped cream." Sachi let out a spine-tingling chuckle, she said. "If you want to play like that, you've eaten three matcha donuts." Namida's hand was half an inch away from grabbing a strawberry jam-filled donut when her arm was suddenly grabbed by both Ketsueki and Sachi.
Namida tried to move her hand away, she said. "Why do I have to play with you two? I only took one out of a few flavors." Sachi and Ketsueki glanced at her from the corner of their eye and simultaneously said. "There isn't much to go around." The corner of Namida's eye twitched while she glanced at the three piles of donuts on the coffee table.
Shiro's Room
Shiro had some frosting on the corner of her mouth as she sat on the workbench on a chair. She was holding onto a pencil with furrowed brows while staring at her notebook, the light was turned on, brightening up the room making it easier to see. Shiro wrote a couple more numbers and excitedly placed down her pencil, she said. "Done." She closed her notebook and stared at the door and picked up her notebook, Shiro thought. Time for Onee-chan to check my homework.

Dreams or Another World - Not a Zero (Update 09/19/21)
(Updated 09/19/21) Hello and welcome. If you made it this far and the book title sounds interesting, I'm hoping you'll read a few chapters. Here's a sample from chapter 1 of "Dreams or Another World - Not a Zero."Slowly starting to wake up, I become aware. It's like coming out of a fog.Head hurts.Body hurts. There's a conversation in the room. This isn't my bed. Someone is touching my arm. I crack my eyes to look. She doesn't notice. Is she praying for me? Her hands do feel good…do feel... Slipping back unconscious, my eyes slowly close. I didn't notice the soft green glow under Jenn’s hands.*******************"It does look like he saved them or at least stalled them long enough for us to get there." says the man dressed more like a park ranger than an officer of the law. "I did think he was part of it at first" he continues "but the evidence shows he wasn't there and they were certainly fighting on that back road where we found them""I don't care who he is." says a woman as she enters the room. "He saved and protected my Jenn. I will make sure there's not a mark or a scar on him before he leaves". As she continues the few steps over to the men speaking, even though dressed simply in common clothes, there is no doubt the race of elves is in her heritage. The grace and lines of her form. The elegance and lightness of her step. She glances at her daughter, still watching over the young man in the bed. "Do we know who he is yet?" she asks no one in particular."Not yet dear" a man in a white coat responds. A handsome middle-aged man. Fit, but not that of a fighter or ranger. "I asked Talon to bring another identification stone with him. I was hoping ours was just broke, but it's reading the same.""What do you think is wrong?" Talon asks."I'm thinking we just have to wait until he recovers. I have heard of cases where the stone didn't work. Powerful spells can hide or wipe a person clean. I doubt he's a spy or a criminal. Spells like that are just too high level if, they're used at all. My best guess is, there is just some disconnect with him being unconscious. When he wakes, we can ask him or use the stone again then."I find myself waking up in a hospital bed. The attending Doctor finds it odd that he cannot identify my class. An Officer says I’m a Hero for saving a girl from being kidnapped, but he’s asking too many questions for my liking. I know an accusing tone when I hear it. I don’t remember any of it and I need to find my way home.Author’s notes. Original work. First draft and update of chapters 1-16. Inspired by various fantasy games and books. Written with a focus on character development and interaction. Combat, progression, leveling, classes, but no numbers or stats. I’ll try to keep the language clean, PG-13, no smut. I’m in the US, writing in English. Almost fifty chapters are completed as I pen this introduction. I intend to complete this story or at least bring it to a proper ending. I have a destination in mind. I find as I write, doors and ideas open, while others close and are discarded. The tentative release schedule will be once a week. I'm new to creating. My apologies now while I learn. I have not settled on a book cover or artwork, still looking for something that fits. Registered & Protected #20VjeKDv2U6nynW6
