《The Roseguard's Odyssey: The tale of the hunted》Chapter 49 - Man against insects against machines Part 3

Luna was attacked as soon as she reached the top. They kicked, slashed, bit, and clawed at her, causing her to scream in anguish. Mist began to emanate from her body as her eyes turned blood red, and within seconds, none of the GEA's weapons, nor the Itraxi claws or stingers, were working against her as Luna's skin began to glow a searingly bright red. Her cuts and gashes began to seal as a result of the heat produced by her body, and she roared like a beast.
Luna crushed the GEAs and Ithraxi’s with her bare hands, her movements resembling those of a rabid animal. She shattered the Ithraxi's carapace with her teeth and crushed the GEA's torso’s like crumpled paper. The more injuries she sustains, the more her skin glows red, like an overheated engine, and she becomes more savage. She moved with unrivalled ferocity as she destroyed machines and insects alike as she becomes more monstrous.
She craved more even when there were no GEAs or Itraxi’s on the landraider. Luna had stopped thinking and was no longer conscious. She had only one thought, and that was to destroy or kill anything that moved or struck her.
When Ithraxi stingers and another Ithraxi crusher appeared, Luna charged at them, aiming for the heavy beetle’s head. With her teeth she shattered the heavy carapace and ripped out its brain, crushed its legs, pulled apart its giant tusks and used its massive body to swing wildly at the GEA’s and the insects.
In the distance, GEA walkers were throwing rocks, and she caught one before it landed and threw it back. The Ithraxi began to flee, but Luna jumped off the landraider and pursued them. She was leaving the area when the shackles on her arms began to draw her back. Luna snarled and struggled, but the force was too powerful even for her in her feral form, and she was forced to pursue the landraider.
The GEA’s tried to rip the plating of the landraider, but Luna dove at them and demolished them all. More leapt onto the vehicle from the sides and dropped from above, while from the inside, Baldric, Elizabeth, and Ada saw something ahead.

It was another wave of GEA’s that was heading straight for them. Baldric pulled the whistle to get Luna’s attention, and she charged to the front of the landraider and leapt off, taking the wave head on. The landraider pushed through the wave of machines, with Ada and Baldric putting all their power into the jets and engines as Luna carved them a path through the ocean of metal. But even she was starting to get overwhelmed and swept away when explosions blew off massive portions of the wave of GEAs.
A walker with the form of an armored gorilla landed on top of the landraider and started firing at the GEAs, clearing their path. Sylvie then jumped off the walker and charged with her lance and weapons drawn. Baldric and Elizabeth could see daylight in the distance ahead of them.
It was the exit, and they were so close, but hundreds upon hundreds of GEAs jumped on the landraider in the hopes of slowing them down. But with Tinkerton-G’s walker, Sylvie, and Luna fighting them off, the GEA's had no chance. Finally, they burst through and exited the under empire. As soon as daylight hit the landraider, the GEA’s all leapt off and stopped attacking, with some stopping completely altogether.
But the landraider was completely wrecked as they made their way down, with smoke and fires coming out of its engines. They were coming down the side of a mountain when Sylvie and the walker leapt off to run beside them. Luna, however, still going full berserk, now began to attack the walker and the mechanical centaur. Sylvie had to kick and avoid her while the walker kept firing nets to trap Luna, but their efforts only kept making her more feral. Sylvie switched her weapons, got out her chemical extinguisher, and started to spray Luna with her own freezing chemical.
"Baldric! Ada! Reel her in!" Sylvie yelled as she and the walker kept Luna occupied. The chemical was working to slow her down, but it wasn't enough. Enraged, she leapt onto the walker and started tearing off its arms.
Inside the driver’s compartment, Baldric got the metal box and twisted a knob, putting on its maximum power. Luna’s shackles began to pull her off the walker and towards the landraider. She struggled, yelled, and roared, but the force was too strong and she fell off. Luna recovered and chased after them against her will, with the box acting as a magnet and pulling her shackles towards it.

Luna destroyed the front of the walker, so the pilot inside opened it to see. G was inside operating the massive machine, firing nets and spear hooks to restrain her, but it was no use as she leapt onto the walker again and began ripping it apart. The landraider began to slow down as Sylvie and G kept Luna distracted. The moment the vehicle stopped, Baldric carrying a box filled with syringes, and Elizabeth climbed down.
They saw Sylvie and Tinkerton-G’s walker were holding Luna down, but she still managed to overpower them and charged straight towards them. Baldric grabbed Elizabeth out of the way while Sylvie fought Luna, the centaur’s powerful legs kicked her away. G’s walker no longer had arms but still slammed down into Luna with the hopes of pinning her to the ground.
Luna’s skin was burning bright red, and a visible steam was rising from her body. She was able to lift the walker and throw it away from her; the walker landed a few feet away but was unable to stand on its own. Sylvie fired more of the freezing chemical and tackled her down, but Luna was far too aggressive and strong for her when Baldric jumped in with Annie’s giant wrench to pin her neck and head down. Sylvie twisted Luna’s legs so she couldn’t have momentum to stand and throw them off while Baldric locked her arms, twisting them so she couldn't flail around.
"Elizabeth!" Baldric called to the child who was watching, frozen in horror. "Get the syringes! Hurry!" He dropped them near the child when he rushed to get the wrench to hold Luna down. "Elizabeth! Move!"
The child shakily picked it up and warily approached them. As she got close, she saw Luna violently thrashing around like a mad animal trapped in a cage. Her skin was sizzling in heat as it shone a bright red. Elizabeth backed away as Luna roared at her.
"Elizabeth, listen to me carefully." Baldric said, as he felt Luna was close to breaking through. "Elizabeth, you need to inject Luna in her neck! I will give you an opening, but I need you to inject her in the neck!"
Elizabeth backed away some more when she saw Luna snarl while violently thrashing and squirming to get free, her eyes incredibly red.
"Elizabeth, snap out of it!" Baldric yelled at her. "Get the syringe and inject her on the neck!" But the child was still rooted to the spot. "If you don't do it, Luna will die!"
The words seem to have urged Elizabeth to continue. She shakily grabbed a syringe, which was coated with liquid, and when she got close, Baldric and Sylvie tightened their hold, giving her an opening. Elizabeth, with her hands violently shaking, started to slowly plunge the syringe into Luna’s neck and squeezed down. As she pulled the syringe off, Luna thrashed even more violently as she snarled and roared with rage.
"Get the other vial Elizabeth!" Baldric yelled above Luna’s roars. "Hurry! Its not enough!" Elizabeth picked up the other syringe and again injected Luna in the neck. Her incoherent yells and roars began to grow even louder.
As Luna cried out in pain, the roaring turned into violent weeping.
"Di-Di! Di-Di! They are hurting me! Di-Di! Di-Di!"
Luna screamed for help as they continued to restrain her while the antidote took effect. It was a heartbreaking sight as they listened to Luna's cries. It echoed around them as she blubbered and pleaded for help, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Di-Di! Help! Mama! Papa! Help! Di-Di! No more! No more!"
Elizabeth looked away as she cried. Baldric tightened his hold as he cried as well. Finally, the antidote took effect as her thrashing started to subside. She sputtered, gagged, and Luna fell unconscious.
