《Soul Summoner in Isekai (LitRPG & System)》68. The Tactical Slime

As the first bouncing black shadows appeared, Anno's entire vision was gradually filled with slimes.
"Kiki!"
The slimes normally didn't like the river, but at this moment, they jumped into the river one after another and fought to swim toward the adventurers on the other side.
In no time, the entire river was covered in a dense layer of slimes, at least hundreds of them.
There were more slimes coming across the grassland!
Luckily for the adventurers, the number of slimes they encountered on their way here was even greater than this, and the fear in their hearts did not increase.
"Watch out for the slime's acid attack. When they come up, clear out some of the first, then set the straw on fire when the numbers increase!"
During the preparations earlier, Anno had the adventurers lay a layer of dry straw along the river's shoreline.
When lit, it would create a flame barrier.
It was originally intended to be used against the goblin.
But now that the first wave of the attack was led by slimes and there were so many of them. They could only be used against the slimes later.
That's right when the slimes started to attack, Anno, as well as the others, no longer take any fluke.
The slime riot indicated that the odds were too high that the goblin's forces would attack tonight!
After drowning quite a few slimes, the first ones finally came ashore.
"Watch out for the acid and clear some of it quickly!"
Anno yelled, and Bande immediately led a group of men to kill the slimes.
The slimes came ashore some of them were killed before they could start spewing acid and the slime flowed all over the place.
"Ow~!"
The level 6 summoned wind wolf roared up to the sky and its body suddenly scurried out.
Where the wind wolf passed, the shattered bodies of the slimes tumbled through the air, leaving a cleared path.
However, there were only twenty or so of the thirty or so adventurers, excluding the long-range professions, who could step forward to launch an attack.
The range that these twenty or so people could guard was too short.
Despite Anno leading the Wind Wolves to keep hunting slimes, more and more slimes came ashore.
When the crowd was surrounded by hundreds of slimes, Anno immediately gave the order to set the straw on fire.
"Boom!"
With the torch thrown onto the straw, a one-person high flame suddenly sprang up, isolating the process of the subsequent slimes disembarking.
Taking advantage of this gap, the adventurers hurriedly cleared the surrounding slimes.
With so many slimes, the acid shot from them intertwined like a rain curtain.
It was a good thing that the slimes were not intelligent and did not know how to work together in batches.
Otherwise, before they ran out of magic power, they could have completely overpowered the adventurers.

Even so, a dozen of them were hit by the acid.
Anno immediately told them to go to the back, where there were bags of water prepared in advance.
Water was used to rinse off the areas that had been hit by the acid to prevent the injuries from getting worse.
"Dang!"
Just as Anno had just cleared the last few slimes, a dozen large slimes suddenly fell from the sky and landed neatly on Anno's side of the camp.
These slimes were all over a meter in size, and after they landed, they immediately chased after the nearby adventurers.
"What big slimes!"
Some of them were seeing such big slimes for the first time and shouted while dodging the slimes' impacts behind them.
Race: Slime
Level: 7
Health: 700/700
Magic: 1000/1000
Skills: [Swallow] [Perception] [High Pressure Acid Burst] [Impact] [Low-Level Self-Healing]
Race: Slime
Level: 6
Health: 600/600
Magic: 800/800
Skills: [Swallow] [Perception] [High Pressure Acid Burst] [Impact] [Low-Level Self-Healing]
These large slimes are the same large slimes that Anno used to hunt in the grasslands.
Anno now had a large Slime summoned by herself.
The [Swallow] skill should be an advanced skill of [Devour].
Anno had encountered this skill when she fought a large Slime.
A large mouth split directly from the middle of his body, and if Anno hadn't used a summoned slime to block his body, he would have been the one to be Swallowed!
[Low-Level Self-Healing] is exactly what large slimes do to recover.
Although the effect was not strong, when Anno summoned a large slime and learned of this skill, he had always wanted to learn it inside.
It was just that large slimes were not usually common, and souls were not easy to collect.
But now, there were thirteen large slimes right in front of him!
Anno looked at the adventurer being chased and couldn't help but draw his short sword and rush forward.
"You dodge first, I'll deal with it!"
Anno called out to the level 6 Summoning Wind Wolf, looking for a Large Slime.
"Thanks a lot, President!"
Raguel, who had been chased, rose from the ground with a pang of fear.
The large slime looked at the one man and beast in its way and its body shrank about to unleash its acid.
"Although both are level 6, you are too weak compared to the other magical creatures!"
Anno jumped up a few times and easily dodged the large Slime's acid.
In the next instant, he and Wind Wolf rushed up together.
"Pfft!"
The large Slime's body was torn open by the short sword and the wolf's claws, and its life value dropped by two hundred points.
At the same time, the slime flowing from the wounds caused the Large Slime's blood level to keep dropping.
However, under the effect of [Low-Level Self-Healing], the wounds were healing continuously.
"Kiki!"

The battered Large Slime turned towards Anno and fought to slam into it.
"Dang!"
The large Slime crashed into the wall, knocking down a piece of the stacked earth wall.
"Under the same level, it's a lot easier to fight a Slime!"
Anno's strength and speed had improved greatly from before after crossing to level 6.
In terms of melee ability alone, he could fight three or four level 5s of himself.
Therefore, facing large slimes, Anno felt very relaxed.
"Scuff!"
Anno once again burst in next to the large slime and stabbed out with his short sword in his hand continuously.
When the large slime saw Anno approaching, its body split down the middle and tried to swallow Anno.
Anno didn't panic and shot a [High-Pressure Acid Burst] into it!
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Five consecutive shots of acid not only made the large slime close its "mouth" again but also penetrated its body!
Soon, the Slime's life value was reduced to zero by both Anno's and the Wind Wolf's attacks.
Obtain Large Slime Soul (Green) x 1
The whole process took less than ten seconds!
Anno has now used up nine of his ten summon spots - level 6 wind wolf x 1, level 5 wind wolf x 3 (one of them went to assist Lu Yan, the other two hunted slimes around Anno), large slime x 1 (in the summoning space), level 5 goblin x 4 (scouring the grassland across the river for demon troops).
The battle is rather chaotic now, and Anno isn't going to summon large slimes out to fight to save them from being mistakenly injured.
"It's just as well to collect some souls and learn [Low-Level Self Healing]."
Learning [Low-Level Self Healing] required Large Slime Souls (Green) x 50, and Anno's eyes changed as he looked around at the Large slimes!
Next, Anno set his sights on the Large slimes.
With Anno and Wind Wolf's killing, the slimes were cleared up quite a bit.
Half an hour later, the Slime's attack slowed down.
A third of the adventurers were also wounded, and some of the more seriously injured were sent to the town to be treated by the old priest, Liu Rongrong and Ning Wen before returning to the battlefield.
No sooner had the crowd rested than the slimes' second wave of attacks began again!
"Does these brainless bastards know about tactics?"
Anno was shocked, but could only lead everyone to hunt the slimes once more.
After more than three hours, the adventurers were a bit exhausted.
The river bank was littered with torn Slime skins.
There were people collecting them before, ready to exchange them for money afterward.
But now, everyone was disgusted by the sight of slimes.
In these few hours, Anno's squad alone had hunted nearly 5,000 slimes.
Many people leveled up.
But the stamina and magic power consumption was not replenished.
Many of the mage professions had long been empty of magic.
And with more and more people getting injured and not being healed - and the priests running out of magic - the defense line could only keep retreating.
There was no way around it.
There were too many slimes, and they were concentrating their attacks on a single area.
The teams elsewhere didn't dare to move until the demon troops were out.
Even if the town's guards and mercenaries who were resting were allowed to guard them, they wouldn't be able to kill them all in a while.
The consequence of the defensive line retreating was that Anno completely lost the view of both sides of the moat.
Among the army of slimes that kept moving forward, several dogfolk mingled with them carrying a log over ten meters long.
They carry the log across the river and then hitch it up on either side to form a pathway.
Although the dogfolk have intelligence, they are by no means tactical.
Everything they do now is simply directed by the cloaked demon.
Or rather, the plan for the demons to attack the village tonight, including the Slime Riot, was all planned by that unknown demon.
After the logs were built, dozens of goblins in helmets and light armor grinned wickedly as they rose from the grass and stepped over the logs to cross the river.
Anno, who was searching for the large slimes, suddenly saw something different on the river.
He immediately rode over on his wind wolf, ready to attack the dark figure on the log.
But goblin snapped his paws on the log, stabilized himself, and ran across the river with ease.
All the goblins crossed the river unharmed, except for the two goblins that were hit by the [High-Pressure Acid Burst] and fell into the river with a miserable howl.
Anno was surprised to see that the monsters were goblins.
"The summoned goblins I had set up around the area clearly showed no sign of them, how did they sneak over?"
After a rough count, Anno found that the group of goblins numbered around thirty, all under level 5, but well equipped!
Far better than the adventurers!
"Surely they're using the slimes as cover and then taking advantage of the chaos to feel their way over!"
Now that they've seen the goblin, Anno and the others' mission is considered complete!
Taking out the flare from the package, he lit the fuse.
"Pop!" "Pop!" "Pop!"
Three red flares exploded in the air in almost no particular order.
The other two were, based on their direction, Shore's and Lily's teams respectively.
In front of the town council chamber.
Rodney watched the flares overhead and immediately woke up the resting guards and mercenaries to gear up and move out!
