《Soul Summoner in Isekai (LitRPG & System)》73. Crushing defeat

On the other hand, Rodney led a group of thirty guards and eighteen mercenaries in a mad dash to the south gate of the town.
By the time the group arrived, over a hundred demons had already stormed the south gate.
Both sides met and immediately shouted and rushed forward.
"Lightning spell ball!"
"Flame bombs!"
"Water blades!"
The mages among the mercenaries raised their wands in their hands and chanted incantations as a single magic spell flew towards the line of magical creatures.
At the same moment, the goblin priest was walking behind the magical creatures. He also raised the wooden staff inlaid with gems in his hand.
A ball of fire, one meter in diameter, coalesced above the goblin priest.
When formed, the fireball flew towards the center of the guards.
"Boom!" "Boom!"
Both sides of the magic landed at the same time, and there were immediate casualties in the field.
Rodney and a few level 9 guards rushed the fastest. They avoid the damage of the goblin magic and collide with several goblin warriors.
"Kill!"
Immediately after the two sides made contact, they began to kill each other.
Of the hundred or so goblins, half were of level six or above, and the rest were all level 4 and 5 goblins and dogfolk - these were the elite troops of goblins.
On Rodney's side, three squads of guards (the town of Gruul itself had one) and two squads of mercenaries were likewise level 6 and above.
Moreover, there were more high-level warriors of level 8 and above than magical creatures.
The level 10 Rodney wielded the lance in his hand, and all the low-level magical creatures in his way were picked off into the air and mended off by the guards around Rodney when they landed.
A level 9 dogfolk slashed a level 6 mercenary to death with the maul in his hand and turned his gaze to Rodney.
Rodney felt something in his heart and turned to look at the dogfolk.
"Suffer!" Rodney flipped his hands and his spearhead appeared with several phantoms in the air.

The dogfolk roared in anger and charged with his machete.
Sharp was similarly approached by a level 9 goblin warrior after slashing a few goblins.
As for Mavis, her figure flickered across the battlefield like a ghost.
Every time she stopped to appear, the dagger in her hand would take the life of a goblin.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Another huge fireball fell, and several guards and mercenaries who could not dodge it were reduced to ashes in the flames.
Mavis' serpent pupils looked to the position of the goblin priests behind the magical creatures. Her form took several jumps and disappeared into the darkness.
On the side of the demons, they were similarly bombarded by mercenaries of the mage profession.
Three magicians, one lightning, one fire, and one water. They took out a dozen of the demons in no time.
But after that, they were targeted by a group of ratmen.
The battlefield was littered with magic and arrows, and blood flew along with roars of rage.
In less than ten minutes, more than twenty men had fallen on the human side!
And there were only about forty demons left - and these forty or so were basically all level 6 or above.
Rodney gasped and pulled his lance out of the dogfolk's corpse.
The armor on his body had been slashed with a crack, and the blood flowing from the wound stained the armor red.
"Dang!"
A goblin's body flew in front of Rodney, who immediately added a shot to its heart.
Bloodied Sharp came running from the direction the goblin had flown from.
He yelled at Rodney, "Captain Rodney, these missions are not what they were promised. Half of my men are dead!"
Rodney looked for the last demon to fight as he returned, "Perhaps we have fallen into their trap from the time we entered the town of Gruul. There's no point in talking about it now, find a way to repel them!"
"Repulse?"
Sharp dodged an arrow shot from the side and pointed behind the demons and yelled, "There's another goblin priest over there! Judging from the strength of the magic, it's a level 10!

There are two other high-level trolls near it for protection.
If we let it keep blasting like this, we'll all get killed sooner or later!"
Poof!
A black shadow flew through the air between the two and opened its mouth to spew out a large mouthful of blood.
A bad thought surfaced in Rodney's mind as he recognized it was Mavis.
"I failed, but I took out a troll guard!"
Mavis rose from the ground and took a potion out of her package, peeling back the stopper before pouring it into her mouth.
A healing potion!
Sharp's eyes narrowed slightly as he saw the bottle that Mavis had thrown away.
Healing potions worked just like healing magic, they could heal injuries and save lives in critical moments!
Even though it was the least effective healing potion, it was still very expensive. One bottle worth 1 gold coin
Such things were used to save lives, and he also had a bottle in his parcel.
Now that Mavis had reached the point of drinking the medicine, it meant that those two trolls were not weak either.
Sharp put his hand around the neck of a level 6 goblin and lifted it up, while his eyes looked around.
"No, if I keep fighting like this, I'm likely to leave my life here!"
In fact, Sharp had regretted it the moment he arrived in the small town of Gruul and learned that the number of demons had doubled to a hundred.
But he didn't dare to leave with his group either - in case the demons followed him and surrounded him halfway, he would be dead.
Moreover, at that time, the demons were only thirty level 6. With their strength, it wasn't impossible to fight.
But the true number of the demons only became apparent after the attack was launched this night.
Not counting the slimes, the number of demons reached two hundred.
Not only was the number of level 6+ demons on par with them, but there was also a goblin priest!
"Captain Sharp, Albert is dead, we can't hold on much longer!"
A mercenary from the Bloodstained mercenary group ran over to this side in a mess and cried out in a hurry when he saw Sharp.
Albert had come with Sharp as a squad leader, a level 9 warrior.
Just now, he had first been shot in the chest by a ratman with a crossbow and then hit by a fireball from a goblin priest.
Sharp's eyes narrowed slightly as he heard the news of Albert's death.
"Click!"
Sharp's hands were hard, snapping the goblin's throat in his hands.
He looked at the back of Rodney and Mavis who were fighting, and a fierce look flashed in his eyes.
"Since the mission intelligence is wrong, don't blame me!"
With his greatsword in hand, Sharp's body kept retreating and eventually disappeared from the battlefield.
As Rodney and Mavis fought, they suddenly felt the pressure increase a lot.
After turning their heads and not seeing Sharp, the two couldn't help but curse, "Damn, where is that guy!"
On the battlefield, the human professionals were losing ground, while the demons were getting braver and braver.
Eventually, when there were less than twenty men left, Rodney ordered a retreat as they fought.
The demons pressed on.
The goblin priest looked at the shifting battlefield, put away his staff, and walked forward.
The guardian trolls followed close beside the goblin priest, staring dumbly around.
"Ahem!"
A wounded goblin at the edge of the battlefield struggled to get up.
When he saw the goblin priest, he immediately picked up a dagger from nearby to protect the front of the goblin sacrifice.
Looking at the bloodied goblin in front of him, the goblin priest tapped him on the shoulder with his wooden staff and said in the language of the demons, "Well done, brave warrior. After the battle, the great goblin king and Lord Liz Christiana will reward you, now you follow me!"
With that, the goblin priest brushed past the wounded goblin.

The Awakened
Mark was a data analyst that had recently landed a job in a company and his life was pretty normal if not a bit boring through upon meeting a mugger in an alley his life had a drastic change not neccesarily for the better. He stopped being a sleeper and saw a glimpse of the true form of the world which opened his eyes to a new life altogether. ============================================================================================== This is my first fiction and i am loosely basing this on Mage:The Awakening rulebook. Naturally i am going to change things a bit but i don't intend to make this a novel where the main character goes around changing the whole world. It will be based on a normal guy discovering a new world while trying to find his place in it. Also please write comments warning me about things such as development speed or unrealistic relations.
