《Modded Reality》Chapter 4 - Apple Skin

Wilton felt his stomach gurgle. He didn’t want to be caught out at night, but he also didn’t want to go to bed hungry. The apple trees came to mind first. He grabbed his spear from his burrow and went out to get the apples.
The halfling trekked through the woods as the land started to grow darker and the sky faded to shades of pinks and purples. Wilton stopped under the nearest apple tree and used the blunt end of his spear to smack apples out of the tree.
He smacked three out of the tree. He caught one, picked up a second that fell down, but smacked the third clear out of the tree. He followed the direction it flew in. When he retrieved it he found several plants sticking out of the ground. He digs them up, finding they are leaf shafts attached to bulbs. They’re leeks. And there’s four of them.
He takes the three apples and four leeks back to his home. He eats one of the apples and considers what to do with the rest. He could potentially make a stock with one and cut up the other. Creating a soup. Maybe a leek stock and chopped apples could make a good garden soup.
Although, he did have a hoe. Didn’t he?
Wilton suddenly feels a weight to his hand. He looks down and the hoe has appeared in his hand. He lets out a scream and drops the tool.
Was this the work of his creator god? The weird raggedy man that sent him here gave him a magic tool?
Wilton holds out his hand and thinks of the hoe. Nothing happens. He scrunches his face, thinks through it, and comes up with an idea. He walks to the hoe, picks it up, and imagines it disappearing.

It does so.
He imagines it reappearing and in an instant it's in his hand again. The tool wasn’t magical. His creator had made Wilton magical! The halfling pumped a fist not being able to contain his excitement. He ran to his tools and did the same with each of them. One by one they disappeared into an extra dimensional space. And with a thought he could cycle between which item he was holding.
Wilton was so excited it took him an hour just to settle down and finally drift off to sleep. He managed to sleep through the strange noises outside his burrow. As something sinister picked up on his trail and tried to sniff him out.
