《Modded Reality》Chapter 13 - Better With Mods

Wilton, aware the day is almost over, tinkers away in his home. Tying sticks in cross-sections, creating a wheel-like structure with spokes. It was a gear. Maybe he could try to build a basic mechanical device.
He takes the gear, takes two slabs of stone, and some wood. He then chisels the stone slabs into round shapes. The first is wider with a trench along the outside. The second is smaller, although it is taller, and he chisels a hole through the center of it. He sticks the gear down into the hole and places a shaft through the gear.
With considerable force Wilton is able to pull on the shaft, moving the smaller stone on top, which grinds it against the stone on the bottom. For testing purposes, Wilton sticks an acorn up into the trench he dug out. As he pulls on the shaft the stones grind together. It rolls the acorn out of the trench, cracks it, and grinds it into dust. He rolls the smaller stone back and scoops the dust into his hand.
This will have wonderful ramifications going forward. Wilton assures himself of the importance of his device.
He then goes outside, noting the setting sun, as he gets some water from the barrel. He mixes the water with the dust creating a dough. He stirs it together in a bowl with some salt.
Wilton lights a fire in his burrow. The fireplace is perfect for it, and the funnel keeps the smoke out. He wedges the grill into the fireplace and puts his little ball of dough on the grill. He watches as the outside of the dough starts to turn brown and crack. Before it burns he takes it off the grill.
The halfling then gets a bowl of his soup, heats it up on the grill, and eats it with the acorn bread he had just made. Although it was more akin to an acorn cracker. After his meal Wilton slept peacefully.
