《Beast King now a Mage》Chapter 6.5- Weapons Shop

The very first store I wanted to go to was a weapons shop. I debated internally whether or not I'd go there first or the magic tools workshop. My love of martial arts won in the end. “Mom, let's go to the weapons store first.” My father responded first, “Good choice son, I know of a popular blacksmith that most of Renee’s adventurers go to”. We walked through several market streets lined with all kinds of stores and restaurants before going through a residential area.
The smithy was a two-story house located in the middle of two adjacent multi-story homes. Most of the houses in Renee were made from the wood of the nearby forest. The weapons shop was one of the homes made with brick probably to avoid setting the place on fire. The weapon ware and smith portion of the house was set on the first floor. Elijah and Tobias walked to the front door and stood guard as my parents took me inside. The smith himself seemed to live on the second floor but was downstairs currently showing a spear to a young man in leather armor.
I looked at many different styles of weapons hung on the walls from swords and spears to bows and hammers comparing the quality of each one to what was in my memory. I have always appreciated looking at different kinds of weapons. As a young soldier, I had used every kind of weapon before even starting my journey as a cultivator. Soldiers used swords, spears, daggers, bows, and arrows. Mages were a minority, not everyone in this world had the talent to use magic. It would be difficult to find any soldiers using any magic on the battlefield. At least this was what I was told. It was very similar to the cultivator's nonsense jargon that only the talented could succeed, however, there was some truth to it and the strong loved to take advantage of that truth.

Knights in Elion were made up of talented commoners, and sometimes the bastards of nobles. The nobles seemed to have a natural advantage. Many children of nobles had high mana volume even without training, giving them the ability to practice magic longer and the potential to reach even higher places. I'd consider the noble houses as magic bloodlines, they marry for magic and wealth to keep their position.
Then why are there so few 4th circle mages in the kingdom when many of the noble children have the potential to eventually reach that level or higher in their lifetime? That was a question that I had yet to have answered, but I could guess why. Hard work, ambition, and drive weren’t things most people were born with, it was something learned.
I continued browsing through weapons selections when I found a decent steel sword and realized the quality might not be bad but it was nothing compared to the weapons I’d seen in the past. I enjoyed browsing, but I would never end up using any of these weapons. I’d always prefer my body and fists rather than a feeble sword or spear. “Darius…” I’d say a part of my curiosity has been, “Darius!” “Huh?” “Pay attention when someone’s talking to you. I even pinched you and you were just staring at the sword!” Uh oh, my mother looks annoyed. “You really want that sword right?” “No, I was just thinking about something else.” “Dolph, we’ll take it and wrap it nicely for us.” Dolph the smithy started laughing, “Hahahaha! The young masters got some good taste, that's the best short sword on the wall.” “Wait, mom! I don’t need it.” “It’s ok honey I could tell by the dazed fascination plastered all over your face that really want that sword. Mommy’s going to get it!” “Mom!” “You can have it when you're older you're too young to be playing with swords right now, I’d say 4 is a good age.” “Elaine 4 is a bit young, you know.” “Your right 5 is probably a little more responsible.” They bought me the short sword I was apparently staring at and said goodbye to Dolph.

We went to the farmlands on the outskirts of Renee. The farmland was a large section of green land filled with all kinds of crops. There was a barrier built around the farmlands to protect it from monsters or wild animals. The farmers were all friendly as they showed us around the different sections of crops. The farmer we talked to even showed me the different livestock he kept. Herals reminded me of both sheep and horses. They looked like fluffy horses with long floppy ears. They were reared for wool, milk, and meat, and were even raised for transportation. Chickens were running around with what I’d describe as rat tails, they gave both eggs and meat, and lastly, I saw some fat and stocky animals which looked like a cross between a pig and a frog with bumps all over its body called Porgs. I had never really thought much of the meat I was eating or where it came from so it was interesting to see the livestock we enjoyed eating every day. Some were the same as my world and others were different. Many of the plants were the same as what I knew of and others differed as well from color to appearance to the names of the fruits and vegetables.
I enjoyed the rest of the day, especially when we went to my father's vineyard. I’d make use of the vineyard soon enough. When dusk arrived I had gotten tired, it was difficult just keeping my eyes open as my father carried me back to the carriage. I'd check the magic tools shop another day.
