RB Chapter 55 Loneliness And Jealousy
"I will investigate it later. Before the hunt, I need to try and control my brain waves." Eric once again reentered the house to the puzzlement of Elec.
Eric found a comfortable flat space, it was the one he had been lying down on. He lay down and activated his all spectrum vision.
He could see each end of the spectrum, from infrared to ultraviolet. It caused his brain to always be overwhelmed when he turned the vision on and he always had to lower the sensitivity of the various receptors.
If you looked with a microscope, you could see that his pupils had formed tiny, honey comb like structures. Each structure possessed a receptor for a different wavelength. Since he couldn't control their formation, they always formed in such a way.
'I wonder if I can make all the receptors turn into just one, by ordering my cells.' He wondered. He had tuned out everything, even sound. He didn't want to be disturbed right now.
Elec must have sat down, as he could see a bundle of colors moving away to a far corner. Another one was located on top of the roof and he took it to be Baguma.
'Let's try it!' The first task he thought of was to try and change all the photo receptors so that they only detect one wavelength.
Even though his eyes were closed, he still had 360 degree vision around himself, though he could only see an amalgam of colors.
'Now how do I go about making my eyes only see one wavelength?' He contemplated deeply.
He was blessed, the others simply had to try using their will power if they wanted to control their brain waves, and it was trial and error. But for him, he had these special eyes which could let him see the different wavelengths. He already had a head start.
And since these were super cells, the limitations of only being able to see only a few frequencies on the UV and infrared spectrum was null! The reason was that he could simply teach the cells to capture the wavelengths he wanted by simply cycling through them. This entailed instinctively making them try to manufacture new long chained proteins and increasing or decreasing the cells' own sensitivity of a particular wavelength to capture the different frequencies.

It was a hard job and it required expending energy.
'But I have a solution to that.' He directed his attention to his brain which was also visible in his vision.
What attracted his attention, was a very dim reddish electromagnetic field released, not just by his brain, but also his entire body. It was very dim and currently, only a select few honey comb structures in his blue pupils could pick it out from a multitude of others.
'Here goes nothing!' He thought as he willed his eyes to focus on dim red light signature. He was going to make all the honeycombs change their receptors into ones which could only see brain waves.
A reddish hue started devouring the blue of his pupils as all the receptors changed in tune with his thoughts.
When all the blue had been devoured by red, the weak electromagnetic field created by the brain and wavy like energy which he termed as brain waves, were all that was left in his vision.
Trying to focus away from the brain waves released by himself, he got a shock! Everywhere else appeared dark in his vision except where Baguma and Elec were! He could see their brain waves, as they had brains, but everything else, the house and the surroundings in his vision were dark!
He hurriedly sat up as that made him terrified! That was enough to break his concentration causing his vision to go back to normal.
Beads of sweat had formed on his forehead in that short period. The dark world that he saw had made him feel as if he was the only one left in the world. Even the brain waves and weak electromagnetic fields of Baguma and Elec had not been enough to reassure him. After all, what he saw were just fields and waves, not the actual person themselves.
"Elec, let's go out hunting." He said.
'I will do that again when I have enough energy. And this time I will try to see if I can trigger it in only one eye.' He thought.
His and Elec's black scale covered bodies glistened when the sun fell upon them. Though, they hadn't been enough to halt the feathers of the bird, they could provide a modicum of protection against weak creatures plus the elements.
-------
They had travelled a long way from the rhinoceros covered area and were in a place where multiple beasts were living.

(My...Babies!)
That voice once again rang in his mind. It had continuously been doing that and the interval was about thirty minutes.
The time was currently about a few minutes to 2:00pm.
The sun was exacting its fury upon the land causing most creatures to rest in the shade.
Most of the creatures they had come across were cats, chicken, pigs, and many other types which were mostly reared for food before the super cell incident.
This city must have been a meat producing one.
Right now, through one of the collapsed walls which had been acting as a fence of a residential piece of construction, the boys were stalking their first prey for the day. It was a cow and it spotted numerous horns arranged like a crown on its head.
-----
'Ever since I was born, I was the focus of both my parents, even though I didn't get along with my mother, she cared for me. Then one day father said that he had prepared a surprise for me. I was excited since this was the first thing that that always stoic father of mine was giving me! He practically never gave me anything for my birthdays, though he did provide anything that I asked for. We went into the elevator and descended. I never knew that our clan building had a basement floor!
We reached a floor which was reminiscent of a cave with only an egg like object located in the center. It was cold, much too cold!
Then, cracks appeared on it and it hatched! What came out of it shocked the living daylights out of me! A boy, the same height as me, the same features, the same eye color, basically the same everything, was what emerged! Of course his eyes had a deeper color. I had thought some creature was going to be the one to emerge, something that would become my pet. Pets do exist, just that only the ten clans have their ways of bonding with them and they are closely guarded secrets. Anyway, my father made the boy my servant/guard and placed his life literally in my hands by giving me a watch which could lead to his death when triggered.
At first I was happy, but then, my mother, for some reason took a liking to the boy and even gave him a name. She treated him like the son she never had! Every time I saw her adding food to his plate, I felt something heavy in the pit of my stomach, a heart twisting feeling. Then I made up my mind to get in her good books, something I pulled off with ease of course!
But now, the boy seems to have gotten in Baguma's good graces! And some woman we met a while ago who I think is one of the few friends my father has, actually ignored me in favor of the boy! This science experiment! How I wish he would just disappear! Now, father even looked concerned for his life when he was unconscious!"
Elec was filled with a turmoil of emotions as he looked at the boy who was more perfect than him. He could fight, he had good manners, he was loved by his father and currently he was even thinking up a plan to take down that bull! But nothing was coming up in his mind! He was literally useless! That feeling made him ashamed. Someone who had only been in this world for a short time had more likeability than him, a trash who lost to a pair of young children!
"I will attack first!" He drummed up the courage to utter those words. He feared for his life, but he had to show his father that he wasn't some useless son.
"Are you sure?" Eric asked uncertainly.
"I! Will! Attack! First!" He whispered the words with such intensity that even the boy was taken back. The expression the boy made birthed a smug feeling in his chest, but he had to do away with it for now.
He had to attack! He stood up, placed one hand on the short wall and vaulted over! He almost crumbled to the ground upon landing because the beast had just looked over at him, but now wasn't the time to act weak!
He didn't even pause for a second! He dashed towards it!
TRIVIA
I made a certain mistake and took brain waves to be the same as will power, but they aren't! Currently we humans don't even know what consciousness is, so I can't compare the two things.
