“Daughter.” His mom called for him or her mom, she should say.

“Mother.” She responded back.

“It is time for you to go on your first hunt with the clan.” She told her.

“Okay.” She was actually quite excited about her first hunt.

Now she could properly put this system of hers to good use. Being a baby all over again sucked ass but this time around it wasn’t as long as it was in her first life. It's only been about a year since he was reborn as a female hyena cub’s body. His initial goal was to survive and avoid all meetings with humans at all cost until he suddenly received the system. Then it was his goal to become the ultimate hyena and create a clan to dominate the entirety of these plains. He even named himself Ultimate in preparation for it!

If there was one thing he could say about life as a hyena, it was that it was an incredibly strict and tough hierarchy. Females reigned supreme over the males. Every male was below in ranking to the females. Even the alpha male was lower than the lowest ranked female.

As the cub of the current matriarch, and a female, Ultimate was quite lucky in the social hierarchy. So, the only person above her was her mother and everyone else was below her in ranking. Their age and sex didn’t matter since she was the princess of the clan basically. Only her sister was equal in ranking to her. She was a nasty little thing her sister was.

“Mother? I come too?” Ultimate’s sister asked.

Ultimate nicknamed her Feisty because of how damn feisty she was. You know, she almost killed her once? Hyena cubs play rough as fuck and some even die while playing! The parents really don’t care at all either. It was truly a survival of the fittest type of place out here. Ultimate would’ve died if it wasn’t for the system’s help against her sister. She was good as hell at fighting. Eventually Ultimate started to get the upper hand lately once she realized she could learn skills by fighting with the other hyena cubs.

“Yes. You both need to learn many things.” She answered.

“I’m going to do better than you, Sister!” Feisty boasted.

“We’re going to be learning. Not fighting. Focus on Mother and the others while they hunt.” Ultimate lectured.

“Your sister is right. Pay attention on this hunt.” Ultimate’s mother agreed.

“Okay Mother...” She glared at Ultimate.

“When do we leave?” Ultimate asked.

“Soon. Prepare yourselves.” She said before walking over to the other female hyenas.

“Don’t think this is over, Sister! Making me look bad in front of Mother. You’ll pay!” Feisty stomped off towards the other cubs.

Most likely to bully them to let off some anger. Ultimate was confident with her system for this upcoming hunt. She could finally level up her skills far more quickly if she went out hunting. Just playing around with the other cubs and learning hyena culture wasn’t helpful in increasing her strength or skills with the system. Considering that she’s been a hyena for a year, her stats and skill levels were pretty pathetic.

It didn’t take long for the hyenas to prepare for the hunt. Mother didn’t bring that many hyenas on the hunt with them. Just two other adult females with Ultimate and her sister. They left once they got together and explored the plains for food. Ultimate constantly kept an eye out for any signs of food or danger. She was just reincarnated not too long ago, there wasn’t any desire in her heart to die again. Especially when she was still so young.

“There. Look.” The Matriarch pointed out.

In the distance was a large group of zebras that was more than enough to feed their entire clan and probably stuff them full for months! Ultimate expected them to try and sneak up on the animals but actually that wasn’t her mother’s plan at all. They just straight up walked over towards them in plain sight. The zebras saw them coming over but they didn’t just bolt at the sight of them. But they did keep a close eye on them. Once they reached a certain distance to the herd of zebras, they ran.

“Chase. But do not use all your speed. Tire them out for an easy kill.” Her mother informed.

They ran at a casual gait towards the zebras who were now surrounding them on all sides. There was nothing but zebras in sight and it looked like Mother was completely in her element. If they got too close, the zebras sprinted off before resting a short while. Ultimate and her clan jogged over to them after their sprint, forcing them into sprinting again.

This repeated for several minutes until Knight, the second highest ranking adult female in the clan, managed to get close enough to a zebra and nip it on the butt with a quick bite. Its legs kicked out at the sudden pain and Knight dove to the ground to dodge its attack, letting the animal tire itself out even more. More time passed of them just jogging and chasing around the group of zebras until the long-awaited event happened. One of the zebras collapsed from exhaustion and this is when the group moved in.

“Eat!” Her mother commanded.

Ultimate moved in with her clan. The adults viciously bit into the tired zebra without restraint. Both she and her sister mimicked the adults and chomped on the tired zebra who couldn’t even manage to kick out with its feet or let out a scream at being bitten. Pieces of its flesh were being torn off and swallowed by the adults. It took Ultimate and Feisty a bit more to get through its hide. Thankfully, their mother helped them out a bit by tearing off most of the zebra’s hide for them. Leaving more skin for them to rip through.

‘I should try and find the heart of this thing to eat so I can get the experience for killing it.’ Ultimate thought while tearing off pieces of the zebra’s skin and swallowing them.

Basically, burrowing through the zebra’s stomach and actually shoving herself inside it. Everyone else was too busy eating to care about what Ultimate was doing. The realization that Ultimate was actively eating her way through an animal while it was still alive didn’t really come to mind. Her focus was more on getting delicious exp to level up with. But even if the thought came up, she wouldn’t have cared too much about it. Why would a hyena care about inhumane or humane acts? They only care about strict hierarchy and getting enough food to survive.

Ultimate made it to the heart and used Bite, harshly crunching on the soft organ and instantly putting an end to the life of the adult zebra. 80 exp was gained for putting an end to the life of the zebra and now she could freely stuff herself full of zebra meat. She ate and ate and ate until her mother forced her out of the zebra. The rest were to go to the cubs of Knight and Stacy, the third highest ranking adult female in the clan. Ultimate nicknamed her Stacy because she was kind of an airhead.

“Sorry.” Ultimate apologized with her body language, unaware the meat was going to be shared.

“We all must eat.” Her mother said.

“That’s what you get.” Feisty snickered, finally happy that their mother wasn’t complimenting Ultimate for once.

Stacy and Knight dragged what was remaining of the corpse back to their clan grounds. Ultimate and Feisty were complimented by their mother on their performance today. As they were returning back, Ultimate started to investigate all the rewards she gained today. This little hunt was just as fruitful as she thought it was going to be. To think she’ll be going out on this regularly... It was exciting just to think about!

All food digested that is more than what the body requires for energy will be converted into energy that can be stored. 5% of hunger can be restored with this energy.

“Hey... What’s this?” Ultimate sniffed a black object on the ground before suddenly being engulfed by it.

The black object jumped at her snout and started to cover her whole body like some sort of slime. She tried biting, clawing, and rolling around to get it off of herself while her clan mates tried helping by nipping at it with their teeth. It didn’t take long for Ultimate to go unconscious. The last sounds she heard before succumbing to the darkness was of her mother and sister shouting her name.
