Chapter 2: A Strange Encounter (Part 2)
Reimi's Perspective - 1 hour ago
They still kept chasing us, they were aiming for Her Highness, I was now sitting in the carriage with 10 guards and Her Highness.
The people chasing us were the assassins that were being sent here to kill Her Highness.
"Reimi! Give me a bow and arrows, I want to fight with you too!" - Her Highness talked to me
Please, my Highness! Just stay behind me all the time!
"No, my Highness! Just keep behind me, it's very dangerous out there!"
We were now chased by 30 assassins, but we managed to kill 5 of them while escaping.
I grabbed a bow that Hermann - my friend and also the one I secretly loved, gave to me. I started shooting at the assassins that were riding on horseback.
"How many did we kill?"
"About 10 of them!" - Hermann said to me
Suddenly the carriage stopped moving, its wheels broke, and it stopped in the middle of the road.
Hermann after seeing there was no hope to escape but to fight, he ordered 9 of his soldiers with him to go out of the carriage to stop the assassins that were chasing us.
He told me to take Her Highness with me and run to hide somewhere deep in this forest.
I ran as fast as I could while bringing Her Highness with me to the road forward.
We managed to find a big tree, maybe we would hide by staying behind it.
A few minutes passed, I saw about ten of the assassins had got out of the way where I ran to this place, they slowly looked around.
They were all searching for us, that meant our soldiers had died, maybe Hermann too! Hermann! Hermann!!!!!
But I cannot mourn them this time, I must keep myself and Her Highness to stay silent for safety.
Then one of those assassins saw us hiding behind the tree, I immediately drew my sword and sliced his throat, that man had died but we were now surrounded by the remaining assassins.
I notice that the number of assassins had reduced, Hermann! Everyone! Your deaths were not in vain!
But how could we defeat the remaining assassins with only two of us?
When I did not keep my eyes on Her Highness, she had been knocked off by an assassin from behind.
She had now fainted and there was still only me with the other nine assassins.
I risked my life by charging toward the assassins, swinging my sword with strong blows, repeatedly at them while keeping my eyes on Her Highness.
I was quickly exhausted, I tried to breathe while doing the guard stance with my sword.
Dammit! The sword strikes that I swung earlier didn't hit anyone but made me exhausted!
"BANG!"
A big explosion came out, I looked behind me and saw an assassin lying down on the ground while his head was spurting out blood.
After that, I was very terrified, so did the assassins, there was a man who came out of a bush.
That man wore green clothes with green spots on them, seems like clothes are made for camouflage.
He was holding a thing, I didn't figure out yet, a long metal stick with black colored?
Four of the assassins ran away because of scared, and the man also shot them all.
I'm very nervous now but I managed to take that chance and sliced the remaining assassins when they still kept their eyes on that man.
That man slowly stepped toward me. I pointed my sword toward him with caution while stepping back to pick up Her Highness, who had passed out on the ground.

Now I had the chance to look at the man more precisely, that man had a full beard, blue eyes, his eyes were quite wide.
His face seemed to be stout, his brown hair looked a bit round-shaped, had a bit short hair.
He was quite tall, much be than 1,80 meters ( about 5 feet 9) according to the human continent's measurement, which is used only in the continent that had humans lived.
His clothes had green colored, with some green spots and brown spots around, down to the shirt and the pants. Looked like his clothes had been made to fit the jungle features.
His right hand had a black metal thing that looked like a bracelet but it glowed green colored on its board. The man's hands had black gloves that looked to be made of fur or high fabrics, they seemed very well made.
He wore black boots, they looked very well made too, down both of his legs had been worn two things that looked like leather holsters. The one on the right was empty, the one on the left looked to be carrying a knife.
His knee had two things that looked like brown leather round-shaped things that stick on his knee, seemed to be used to protect his legs.
In the middle of his crotch was a short round triangle-shaped look to be made to protect his crotch.
His belly was covered with four brown square-shaped that looked like pouches, placed next to each other, they may be used to carry throwing knives or so.
He was holding a long black stick that I considered a magic tool, it looked like a magic staff but that thing was strange.
It had a thing that looked like a handguard under its rectangle-shaped near the small long stick that was placed next to rectangle one.
I saw he wore a thing that looked like black leather armor that looked to be well made, the armor only covered his shoulder to his belly, except his hands.
He was wearing a big thing on his back, looked to be a green bag, it looked quite big and heavy but he could move easily without struggle.
I also saw some of his muscles from his shoulders exposed through the cover of his clothes, this man was sure to be very muscular.
The man then stopped, he said to me a word but I didn't know what that meant, he also spoke a second time, I didn't understand either.
This man didn't speak any of our Englis language, he was not the man from this place. I tilted my head, trying to figure out what he said, I spoke to him in my language.
That man also responded but with his language, how could I understand what he said, huh? I spoke to him to warn him not to move close to Her Highness.
I kept pointing my sword at him, a few minutes passed and I saw that man didn't have any hostility toward me.
I returned my sword to my scabbard, picked up Her Highness and went back to where we ran away.
That man also followed us, after returning to the carriage. I saw Hermann and 9 of his soldiers die, they all died heroically.
I placed Her Highness, Shera on a tree nearby and checked her wounds.
Seems like there were no wounds in Her Highness's body, I was very glad. Later, I put her on the carriage and waited for her to wake up, I also stayed up there with that strange man.
Where was this man came from exactly? I wondered. His language and clothes were different from ours, after looking closer at the clothes he was wearing, I guessed that was a military outfit with strange designs.

He was also brought a bag on his back, his metal stick, which had a thing that looked like a strap that stick to the stick. He was wearing it on his right shoulder.
That must be a magic tool, as I thought earlier, that magic tool was powerful. But strange that it didn't have any magic stones on it.
But in a blink of an eye, that man killed five assassins, that magic tool made loud noises but they were all-powerful noises.
Then, after a few minutes of silence, suddenly the metal box which the man wore in his right hand talked to him, seemed to want to advise him something.
Though I considered that metal box as a bracelet but I didn't see it as a bracelet so I called it the metal box, it was so scary that it could talk!
I was very terrified now! A box, could talk? I immediately stepped back farther from him, holding my sword and was about to draw it.
That metal box talked to him again, then he touched it, surfing its surface or more rightly was its board. And somehow after that, that metal box didn't say a word anymore.
That must be another magic tool or magic item, I slowly calmed myself down, but still kept a little cautious on that man.
I kept looking at the man with caution then my belly seemed hungry, it was gulping, why did I feel hungry at this time?
I asked my belly, then I stared at that man and looked away for fiding foods, there must be some food left in this carriage.
Then that man removed his bag and putting it down on the floor, opened it and took out a short shaped metal stick with white-colored.
Before handing that thing to me, the man looked to be remembered something, he immediately removed it.
Oh! The short-shaped metal sticks that had brown colored and had been wrapped by a strange white colored thing that looked like cloth.
The man after removing that cloth, handed me that short metal stick. I took it and started looking around, also sniffing the metal stick, it had a very good smell, very sweet.
After making sure that thing had no poison and was edible, I put it in my mouth and enjoyed it.
Ohh! That sweet tasted very good, I felt more hungry after eating it, I raised my hands out to that man, begging him for more. What was wrong with me anyway? It was very shame!
That man later threw to me another metal stick again, but this time, the thing that wrapped it hadn't been removed yet.
So I tried to remove the wrap, it was a little difficult but finally, I removed it. I put that sweet in my mouth again, enjoying the taste.
Then I noticed that after eating the second one, I had immediately more serious with myself, not behaving like a child anymore.
Though I was still hungry, but I ignored it and started checking again on Her Highness.
"John, John Rigen!" - That man introduced his name to me while I was checking on Her Highness
My eyes opened wider, I had now realized that man, John Rigen was a noble, no doubt about it! This man was truly an aristocrat.
His clothes and his language may be strange but his belongings, that powerful magic tool, the metal box. The boots and his weird strange clothes, also the sweets he brought, only the high ranking nobles could own them.
"Reimi, Reimi Frieden!" - I also introduced my name to Sir Rigen
That man after hearing my name, he kept repeating it, he had no response about my surname at all. My family clan was very well known in this place for its Knight tradition.
It was even very famous for foreign kingdoms on this continent, this man surely didn't come from this place.
I also repeated Sir Rigen's name to make sure that I would remember it, then I looked outside, seeing my dead comrades.
I wanted to bury them but how could I do that while guarding for Her Highness? I looked at Sir Rigen, holding his hands and begged him.
Sir Rigen didn't understand a word of what I said, but he could see my thought by looking at my eyes.
Then Sir Rigen said words like to accept digging the graves for my people, he said a strange word at the end of his line "Okay".
"Okay?" - I also repeated that word with curious
Then Sir Rigen took out a shovel he brought from his bag and went down the carriage, digging graves for my people.
While waiting for Sir Rigen, I searched for food inside the carriage. I managed to find a lot of them, I had eaten some to make sure I would be full while checking at Her Highness.
An hour passed, I looked outside again and saw Sir Rigen, who was now maybe exhausted after digging the graves, maybe he had done digging.
I looked back to check on Her Highness and noticed that she had opened her eyes slowly. Her Highness was now looking at me, I felt so happy.
Rigen's perspective
After hearing what Reimi said inside the carriage, I immediately got in to check up on her and her friend.
Uh oh! The blond-haired girl who had woken up was now cautious about me, she held a short wooden stick, pointing at me as if to defend herself.
"M Highnes! Thi ma wa ou savio, I kno tha yo ar ver confuse righ no bu pleas cal dow, I wil explai fo yo late!"
(My Highness! This man was our savior, I know that you are very confused right now but please calm down, I will explain to you later) - Reimi trying to explain to her friend
After hearing what Reimi said, that blond-haired girl calmed down, she looked at me and said some words, as if to thank me.
I also introduced my name to her after that.
"Shera, Shera Sonne!" - Shera introduced to me her name
I repeated Shera's name, she also did the same with my name with curiosity on her face just like Reimi, and then Reimi explained to Shera something.
Shers later opened her eyes wide and seemed to be understood something from what Reimi said to her, but the strange thing after that was Shera staring at me.
She looked around my face very close then immediately kept her face out of me with a bit red on her face. A few seconds later, Shera had signaled for Reimi as if she was thirsty.
Then I took out a bottle of water from my bag and handed it over to Shera, Shera and Reimi were now focusing on the bottle.
They examined it, impressed at the details on the bottle, impressed at how well it was made.
I used hand language, tried to guide the girls on how to open the lid, after looking at my performance they did like what I told them.
After opening the lid, Shera drank the whole bottle, seemed like she was very thirsty.
After drinking the water, Shera and Reimi look outside, then they went out to see their people's corpses.
I also went with them and they walked closer to their people, they kneeled on the ground, joining their hands to mourn for the people who died.
Then Shera sat on the ground, crying, watching me and Reimi placing their people's corpses in their graves.
The sky was very dark now, it took us about 30 minutes to place the corpses in their graves and mourn the death.
I must move on now, maybe I couldn't go back to my place anymore, maybe I had been sent to the past or another place.
I must live here, if I couldn't return, then I would live here for the rest of my life.
Shera, who was now done crying, said words like to thank me again or something like that.
Then she took a sword from one of her dead soldiers and gave it to me. I also thanked her, though we cannot understand each other because of language distance.
"John! In the earlier fight, you wasted 5 bullets, but you were a sharpshooter so the shots killed the attackers immediately."
"You only have 235 bullets left, use them wisely, try to used to using the melee weapons or you will die when your rifle runs out of ammo!" - SA suddenly warned me
"All right! I know!" - I replied to SA by using my brainwave
I had received the sword from what Shera gave to me, maybe someday when I had learned their language I would ask Reimi or Shera to teach me to use a sword. I need to learn their language to live in this place.
I also need to reduce using my rifle, that would be my trump card when I got into hard time situations.
The sky was already dark, and I was about to sleep, the girls felt a bit guilty when they asked me to sleep outside while they sleep inside the carriage, but I accepted that.
The ground outside was not cold, I lay on the ground in a place where I felt warm and slept. I cannot stop thinking about my fate when I had to live in this place.
I struggled a little bit while trying to sleep, but finally, I managed to sleep well, I would consider my plan tomorrow.

Niall will be both a crafter (primarily, but not exclusively, as a blacksmith) and a fighter. There won’t be a harem. But don't worry, there will be both flames and forges! I should be clear that while this is very much LitRPG, it's story led and I have tried to make it feel believable. So, for example, the first blue box doesn't appear until chapter 6. I hope that the payoff is worth it. Compared to some LitRPGs you may find the pace rather gentle at times. There will be some periods where it feels like Niall is eking out every level and others when, for good reasons, he makes a significant leap. My goal though is to give you a satisfying story, so that dictates when and how Niall's stats and skills change. I can reassure you that I fully intend for Niall to become immensely powerful, but I want you to feel like he has earned every level in a realistic way.
