Loud knocking can be heard. Everyone in the room wakes up simultaneously, Rinka, Minaro, Maya, Ashi and Doa all come out of the bedrooms. Imma-ite rolls off the sofa and slams onto the floor.
Rinka opens the door. Sumairu is standing there in his green robe smiling.
Sumairu: Alright I've got some important stuff to share!
Sumairu walks past everyone and into the room. he stands at the center of the living room and pulls out a white board and a blue marker from within his robe.
He tries to write something on the board, messes up and tries to rub it off, the blue marker smears all over the board.
Sumairu looks annoyed. He drops the whiteboard and looks at everyone
Sumairu: I was going to do a cool whiteboard presentation of the cool stuff I was going to say, but the marker I brought was not for whiteboards… anyways.
Imma-ite wakes up and continues to lay on the floor. He stares at Sumairu.
Sumairu: So today's training is gonna be special, real special. I'm sending all of you on a dangerous mission.
Imma-ite's eyes widen.
Imma-ite: Huh! All of us? I didn't even ask to be trained.
Sumairu Ignores him.
Sumairu: Have you guys heard of the infamous group of murderers known as "The Skillers"?
Doa: I've heard just a little about them.
Rinka: I dont know what they are.
Sumairu: Well, They're murderers that have been roaming the land, and right now, we're gonna hunt some down!
Imma-ite: You want us to hunt down murderers?
Sumairu: Exactly, it'll be amazing training!
Imma-ite: Yeah, no, count me out, I don't even need training.
Sumairu: It may sound scary, but there's a prize depending how many individual skillers we can kill or capture! We get money!
Imma-Ite: Oh wait, I like money.
Sumairu: Yeah, the Guardians personally told me they would give me money for every skiller we caught!
Rinka: The Guardians? Who are the Guardians?
Sumairu: Oh, the Guardians are a group of amazing people whose job is to save people, they're like me, just that there's 11 of them.
Sumairu looks at Doa.

Sumairu: Can I borrow your phone for a little, Doa?
Doa: Sure.
Doa walks to Sumairu and hands him her phone, he starts to type on it.
Sumairu: Minaro, I'm just really curious about this, do you happen to remember what the person you fought at Maligan mountain looked like?
Minaro: I kind of remember? He was shirtless and had a bunch of bandages around him and he had a thick sword too.
Sumairu walks over to Minaro and shows him a photo on Doa's phone. It was an image of Yoshanai.
Minaro: Oh, that's him.
Sumairu: Really? Wow, you beat a skiller then.
Minaro: That was a skiller?
Sumairu: Yeah, you beat Rank 8, pretty impressive.
Doa: They have photos of the skillers?
Sumairu: Yeah, most of the photos were taken during battle, but you can tell what they look like.
Rinka peeks at the screen of the phone. He notices the words "Rank 8" under some photos of Yoshanai.
Sumairu scrolls past more images of Yoshanai.
Rinka: Why is he called Rank 8?
Sumairu: Oh, all skillers are named after a number, It's from weakest to strongest, Rank 1 being the weakest, and Rank 14 being the strongest. Plus the Guardians don't actually know their real names.
Sumairu gives the phone back to Doa and places his hand on Minaro's shoulder.
Sumairu: I'm pretty confident in our ability to take these skillers down, If Minaro was able to do it by himself!
Sumairu grabs everyone and starts to line them up next to each other.
Minaro, Rinka, Imma-ite, Doa, Maya and Ashi was the order.
Ashi raises her hand a little.
Ashi: Mr. Sumairu, I don't even know how to fight, how do I help?
Sumairu: Oh, actually you won't be going on this mission, You'll stay here and do some side training.
Sumairu looks at everyone all lined up.
Sumairu: Alright! That's 7.
Rinka: 7? There's only 6 of us lined up. Unless your coming with us?
Sumairu: I'm not coming with you… He is.
Sumairu points at a black cat rubbing itself on Maya's leg. Doa picks up the cat and stares at it.

Rinka: The cat?
Sumairu: Trust me, that cat can fight. It scratched me once.
Imma-ite: Sumairu, you lazy motherfucker. Join us.
Sumairu: I would, but I have taxes and work stuff to do. But really, the cat is useful.
Sumairu looks at Ashi.
Sumairu: Alright Ashi, C'mon lets go train you up! As for the rest of you, you're free to go on the mission whenever you want to!
Sumairu and Ashi walk to the door, open it and leave.
…
Yutsu, the white haired guy with red eyes and yellow crosses in them, walks down a red hallway and enters a room that has 7 people in it.
"Everyone, I brought you all here for one reason, there's 2 new people with black blood that I sensed" Yutsu says.
"Are we going to kill them?" Someone asks.
"No, this time we won't. I want you all to go to the locations where you go the most, and let those black blood people find you."
"And what happens next?" A different person asks.
"Fight them, but don't kill them."
...
Everyone is looking at Doa's phone. She scrolls past blurry photos and Information on the skillers.
Doa: They're missing 1 of the skillers here, Rank 9, they don't have a single image of them, not even blurry ones.
Rinka looks at everyone.
Rinka: Hey do you guys want to go on the mission now? If you're down to go, I'm down to go.
Doa: Well, there's nothing else for us to do, so I guess we should go?
Imma-ite: Nothing else to do? We could go to sleep!
Rinka: Yeah but, I think we should just get the training done with.
Doa: If we're gonna hunt these skillers down, then we should go by weakest to strongest, so the first skillers we should look for are Rank 1, Rank 2 and Rank 3… it says on the website that they may be siblings.
Rinka: How do we find them?
Doa: The website lists several areas they've been at multiple times and the most popular ones too.
Rinka: So we just go to each place they've been to and hope we find them?
Doa nods her head.
Rinka: Where do we go first?
Doa: A small village known as Ordena.
Rinka looks at Imma-ite then at Maya.
Rinka: Are you both actually gonna come with us?
Maya: I'll go, I want to be useful!
Imma-Ite: I'm bored so I guess I'll go.
Rinka: Alright then.
…
Doa, Minaro, Rinka, Maya, Imma-ite all stand in the living room and stare at the black cat.
Imma-ite: So this cats gonna teleport us to the place?
Doa: Yes. Bukkaru has that skill surprisingly.
Rinka: His name is Bukkaru?
Doa: Yeah. Sumairu named him.
Imma-Ite: Buckoroo. Got it.
Everyone is enveloped in a purple ball. A few seconds later they're all in an alleyway.
Rinka: Oh wow. Are we actually here?
Doa: I think we are.
Everyone walks out of the alleyway, they see stone buildings and little wooden shop stands everywhere.
Imma-ite: So like, do we just walk around and hope we find the skiller?
Rinka: I guess?
Imma-Ite: Alright then, I'm gonna go explore this place.
Imma-Ite walks away. Rinka looks at Maya, Minaro, Doa, and Bukkaru.
Rinka: Should we just follow him?
They all nod their heads.
They walk around the village looking at all the stuff they could buy.
20 minutes have gone by.
Everyone is lying against a wall, Imma-Ite looks at everyone.
Imma-Ite: I'm bored, can we go to a different place now?
Rinka: Should we go to a different place?
Before anyone can respond, screaming and yelling can be heard. The people around them tremble at their shop stands.
Rinka and the others seem confused.
3 people can be seen calmly walking. All of them have cyan colored hair, two were male and one was female.
The female yells something out.
"Hey! Have you people seen anyone with black blood in the area!"
Doa looks at Rinka, Minaro and Imma-ite
Doa: Those are Skillers! Rank 1, 2 and 3!
Rinka looks at Doa.
Rinka: Oh shit, really?
Imma-Ite: We kill them right?
Doa: Yeah, kill or capture.

Gateway
An archaeologist by the name of Søren Quinn wakes up elsewhere after boarding a plane for Iceland. Now he has to come to terms with a significant loss of recent memory and his apparent death and rebirth, provided he can survive the rigors of the Tutorial on Gateway Station and whatever waits for him after the Tutorial. Updates. When I can... sorry. Author's Note. Gateway is a portal/isekai style GameLit novel, but it has two main lead characters and will eventually have a small cast of minor lead characters to support them. There will be small elements of base building / kingdom management added as well over time, but they will not be the focus. Gateway really is a slow burn that takes some time to get going unfortunately, but I hope you find it's worth the wait. Thank you! p.s. Book One is finally done (only needed one more chapter unfortunately...) but I'm off hiatus now and will be starting on Book Two right away!

Humanity's End
Given a year to prepare by the mysterious ‘system’ for contact with the wider galaxy, humanity must work to ensure the Earth’s defense is ready to meet any challenge. Sadly, most of the world seems dedicated to tearing itself apart as the year-end deadline gets closer. The west is in barely contained Chaos, while the east descends into internal conflict and war. The Pillar Forts, one of the few successful projects of the United Nations headed by the United States, stand ready to defend humanity against any invasion that may come through the strange Connection Pillars that appeared on each continent. Massive steel and stone walls that surround the Connection Pillars. They are filled with deadly men and women trained in all manner of warfare, each trained in the newly acquired System with skills and magical abilities that they put to deadly purpose. Beside these brave warriors, tanks, helicopters, artillery and more stand ready to defend humanity at each of these powerful installations. But, can they overcome the disparity in levels and experience between themselves and the forces that threaten them and the rest of humanity? Main Characters Jessica Brown- A young African American girl. Her 18th birthday in Detroit was the same day the systems message appeared. She discovered she was Level 7, much higher than most of the rest of the world. Why she is blessed, or cursed, with the power she doesn’t know. But what she does know is that she rather likes the feeling that comes with manipulating magic. The week after her birthday, government workers started testing every person in the US in a massive census effort of skills and abilities. Jessica Brown found herself conscripted into the US Magical Corp, a new branch of the US Military, and shipped off to a Pillar Fort. Somewhere hot and muggy in her ancestors’ home of Africa. As she grows stronger, she finds she has some connection to the pillars. While everyone else sees beauty or danger when they look at the pillars, after connection is made all Jessica can see is a Tree. A tree the size of the entire universe. Isaka Smith - is a third generation American and farmer who just wants to be left alone. But she is dragged into the situation by events beyond her control. When people in her small town had to deal with rioters and looters after the system announcement, she rallied them to defend themselves, earning her a trait that the government found extraordinarily useful. After a visit to a local reservation, she finds herself conscripted to lead one of the many small support towns erected around the great pillar forts. Not near her old home, but in far-flung Africa. John McIntire, the “Fighting Bull” -The commander of the African Fort, but because of circumstances beyond his ability to contend with shortly after taking command after being re-activated from retirement, he finds communication with his chain of command increasingly difficult. The US government, hell, even the United Nations, seems to have fallen into complete and utter chaos. The African Union is embroiled in a bitter civil war just outside his door, and supposedly, most of the world governments are in similar situations. Meanwhile, John must do his best to be ready to facilitate diplomacy, or to match the hostile argument of whatever force might come through the pillar of light when the year timer finishes counting down. Can our heros defend Earth from outside threats, while it tares itself apart? Or will they need to rebuild from the ground up? DEDICATION: This story is dedicated to my father who passed away recently. Jim Holloway, you’ll be missed you old silverback gorilla. Love you dad. Always have, always will.
