《Grand Defender》Chapter 11

Going southeast would probably result in the best outcome. If I were to let even just one person die, it would be a major loss, since there were only seven of us.
I went out and hunted some wildlife, drying their meat and placing the resulting jerky on a grass-woven bag.
Congratulations! You have earned two levels in [Hunter]

It was already midday, so I was reluctant to go out right now, but waiting to depart in the morning would be a waste of time. I waved the boulder and my hut goodbye, and would have started going directly southeast if it wasn't for a little part of the mountain getting in the way. For now, I would have to start heading slightly southwest, but that would change soon.
Most of the 'path' was a hilly terrain full of foliage and overgrown grass, which was getting annoying. After about three kilometers of travel I had to cross over a river, another two kilometers later, another river popped up, and it was the last river I saw for a while, the next eleven kilometers being spent traveling in a snaking valley. The sky was getting dark as I heard the familiar sound of running water, again. I sat down on a fallen tree and took out a good chunk of jerky and my bamboo canteen. Eating and drinking after that long walk was just what I needed, I then gathered some dry leaves from the floor and grouped them up to make a provisional bed. I slept like a log.
The next day, I woke up and drank some water, ate some jerky and went behind a tree to do my business. I walked over to the river and filled my canteen with new water and took a dip myself, to wash off yesterday's sweat, then continued traveling. I checked the map, and to my displeasement, an unavoidable hill crossed my path. I only had to ascend a hundred meters, but the descent was at least two hundred. Going down turned out to be a huge pain due to the steepness and the loose clay deposits, which made me fall a few times. Thankfully, the stat increase was actually starting to show now, a fall that would've usually broken an arm turned into a bruise. There was yet another river at the foot of the hill, which the map showed to go directly south for a while, until it reached flat land.

The river ran through the valleys of hills, being every bit easier to traverse than the surroundings, obviously. The water carried itself on a mixture of mostly gravel and sand, without much force, making it kind of boring but relaxing to look at. After another fifteen kilometers of travel, I readied my [Stone Spear] and caught some fish that I hadn't seen in the previous rivers. These were bigger and had a bit more color to them, hopefully meaning that nutrition was plenty around here. They tasted better, and had less spines too.
After resting for about an hour, my travels continued. The same gravel over and over again felt kind of comforting and nice to walk on, and skipping rocks once in a while kept me from boredom. I expected the journey to be harsh, but as everything in life, it had its fun parts. Another fifteen kilometers quickly went by, and the blue sky started showing patches of orange and pink. I sat in the warm pebbles that composed the gravel, not expecting a notification.

Author here, just wanted to say that if the synopsis did not sound as exciting as I had hoped it would be, try reading the first 10 chapters? I promise it won't be terrible! :) Whoops, forgot to mention, prologues don't count as chapters! If you've read this far, I might as well tell you what I was inspired by! However, this does NOT mean my story will be similiar in any way to the novels/stories/books listed below. By 'inspiration,' I refer to mainly how the characterizations plot devices, dialogue, conflict introduction/resolution, and thought processes are used and introduced in those works of literature. But in a way, you can interpret this list as, "if the author read and was inspired by these novels, then it's possible that we share similiar tastes, so I'll give this story a try." :) -Those Who Aspired to Become Gods: A darker fairy tale novel (My all-time fantasy favorite despite it being unfinished) -Forgotten Conqueror (Second all-time fantasy favorite) -Brandon Sanderson's The Reckoning trilogy (Third all-time fantasy favorite) -Kel Kade's 'King's Dark Tidings' -Brent Week's Night Angel saga -Red Rising trilogy -Infinite Realm: Monsters & Legends -Reborn: Apocalypse -Reborn: Evolving From Nothing -48 Hours a Day -The New World -Creep -Arrogant Young Master Template A Variation 4 -Can't Cure Deceit -Super Minion -Unparalleled -Unbound -Wake of the Ravager -Overgeared -Solo Leveling -The Tutorial Is Too Hard [email protected] -God of Money -A Snake's Life -The Snake Report -The Tower of God -UnOrdinary -Release that Witch!
