15 mins earlier at the head of convoy.
Arthemor and around 10 of his knights were slowly retreating to the mid-section of the convoy to his family.
With Arthemor's rank and speed, he could certainly break free from his current predicament and dash towards the carriages but if he did that, he would be condemning his men to certain death.
He just hoped that the knights in the middle of the convoy would hold on until they arrive.
"Steady men! Don't leave any gaps in the shields." commanded Arthemor.
*Silence*
The bolts stopped.
"AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!"
Many battle cries were heard as the assassins charged at them with a menacing fervent.
"PREPARE TO ENGAGE! THORN FORMATION!!!" shouted Arthemor.
The knights quickly assembled in eye shaped formation. They hid behind their shields; waiting for their enemy.
As the assassins closed in on them and were about to bash themselves to the knight's shields; the shields were lifted and spears were thrusted into the bodies of the assassins. Some spears even passed through 2 assassins.
*THRUST SPLASH* THUD*
Blood was spilled everywhere as about a dozen assassins were lying on the ground in but an instant.
*BASH*
The assassins managed to bash themselves against the knight's shields.
Arthemor used his sword arts the slay many of his foes. Each strike contained so much power that many of the assassin's swords broke when they tried to defend themselves.
The assassins ran on their comrades' shoulders to attack the knights the from air.
Arthemor jumped and using his sword art, he cut off the legs of many assassins.
Arthemor and his knights managed to kill around 40 of the assassins and 110 more remained
Tregor who was standing on a tree branch with the same giant assassin said sarcastically "Oooo, it seems my assassins need some polishing to do. This should root out the weak amongst them too; don't you agree?"

Tregor looked at the assassin next to him but the assassin should neither approval nor displeasure.
"Huh. Not much of a talker, are you?" said Tregor as he was checking for any movement on his part.
And so, the battle continued, the knights fought valiantly but they were outnumbered 11 to 1.
Arthemor slashed left and right.
As he was about to behead another assassin.....
*BOOOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!*
Everyone stopped fight. Whether it was the knights or the assassin, whether if his sword was on his enemies' neck or having a sword about to pierce you neck. Everything stopped.
Even the clam Tregor and the assassin next to him were shocked.
"Wh... Wha.... What was that? Did something happen in the mid-section?" said Tregor in a puzzled tone.
Arthemor who also saw the explosion was not only confused as to what it was but also anxious.
"NO!!" Shouted Arthemor
He cut through 4 assassins in one slash and dashed his way to the carriage. His men followed suit and tried to prevent others from getting to him.
When Tragor saw this, he said to the assassin next to him "Enough of this. Go!"
The assassin nodded and jumped down from the tree.
His landing created a Shockwave and sent rocks and dust flying.
He then dashed towards the direction Arthemor went.
When Arthemor arrive at the scene, he discovered the carriage that his wife and child were in was blown to smithereens.
*THUD*
Arthemor fell to his knees.
"Hil.....Hilda.....Dominic. No..... You cannot leave me.... How can you die before me...? " Said Arthemor as he stuttered to speak.
He was then surrounded by the assassins. The knights he left behind had all have their lives to stall time for their lord.
Now it was just Arthemor. Only the lord was left.
The assassins felt a powerful aura coming from Arthemor. Even though he looked calm, they knew that this was just the silence before the storm.

Then, a voice spoke from behind the assassins "Step aside."
The assassins looked back and saw the same giant assassin standing next to their grandmaster.
They opened a path for him and he went up to Arthemor.
The giant assassin spoke in a harsh voice "Marquess Arthemor Dragoon. Your time has come"
The giant announced as he drew his two swords.
Arthemor felt anger, hate, sorrow, regret, and a wish to die so he could join his family.
Arthemor slowly got up; his hands still shaking from shock. The blood of his enemies still dripping from his sword. He said "If I was your target, why did you have to kill them? Why did they have to die?"
The giant assassin replied "Don't worry about your family. All that matters for you now is the simple reality of death."
Arthemor did not react but inside his mind, he was a broken man.
Arthemor just replied with "Come."
The giant assassin revealed his aura. A 6th rank Majai warrior.
The giant assassin charged at Arthemor.
He charged with a strange technique. One sword was held closer to him while the other was attacking from his right.
*Clang*
One sword blocked Arthemor's strike while the other attacked simultaneously.
Arthemor managed to dodge the strike but he was still slashed on his cheek.
"You're good.... But not that good." said the giant assassin.
Arthemor just kept silent. Infact, he did not even hear what the giant enemy said.
he was grieving.
The assassin kept changing his sword art technique.
Arthemor could honestly not adapt in time to form a proper counter attack to them.
At this point his body was slowly being cut by the giant assassin's sword.

5 mins prior
Dominic was running towards the tip of the convoy.
Yet just as he was going, he noticed something from the side of his eyes.
There was an assassin guarding some sort of a stone ruin.
'That must be what's blocking us from using space magic.' said Dominic to himself.
He went closer to it and as he did so, he scanned the area for more assassins. It seems that there was just 1 guard.
Dominic smiled.
Dominic used telekinesis to lift his sword around 20 meters in the air.
The sword flew over the assassins' head with its tip pointing at the unsuspecting and bored assassin.
*Swoosh*
The assassin looked up and saw a shiny object is coming towards him. He tried to dodge but it was too late.
*Stab*
The assassin was pierced in his left eye socket by the entire length of the sword. Only the hilt of the sword could be seen with the rest of the blade in his body.
After getting pierced, the assassin stood there for around 2 seconds and fell to the ground.
Dominic went up to him and retracted his sword albeit with a lot of struggle.
'So, just smashing the formation should do the trick.' said Dominic to himself.
The formation was circular in shape with a bright blue glow emanating from it and had a stone tablet in its centre. Dominic did not use his hands to throw the tablet as he was not sure what would happen.
He used telekinesis to lift the tablet out of the formation.
As he did so, sparks appeared around the formation but spark and the bright glow of the formation stopped.
'That should do it. Now to father.' said Dominic as he dashed towards the head of the convoy.
Dominic had destroyed the space magic disruptor. Now he and his father can use the space scrolls to escape....

The Beta Test
Our nameless narrator participates in a beta test for an early VRMMO game Meridian 60. That's not the real name but it captures the spirit of the adventure given the chronological and contextual era of the game. His character is unique and special but purely for mundane reasons and not because of any inherent or social significance. The first chapter which is mandatory to submit a story on RR serves as a bit of a prologue with some exposition, although I limited that to a reasonble level. I plan to begin releasing additional chapters starting Thursday, to align with the 48 hour submission approval process and also because I have something to do Wednesday. I haven't written anything but the summary and first chapter, nor have I plotted anything out. This is because my plan is to release roughly 34000 words a day, 10 chapters of ~12.5 pages each, for 3 days at which point the story will be complete. I'd have liked to plan for more but handling the interface tables and so forth needed for a data heavy litrpg slows down the writing process. 100k words is a bit short, a standard pre epic fantasy 300 page spec fic novel, but this is mostly a writing exercise and I am considering a longer project if I can maintain the pace. Probably do a different concept, maybe a dungeon core, over 5 days, since a 500 page novel is more common these days. Slight subversion of VRMMO stories Stat heavy/crunchy No paying your bills by gaming No out of game conspiracies No angst, interpersonal drama, or damsels/dudes in distress Schedule is 30000 words a day excepting the first chapter, a limitation of RRs fiction submission system Fantasy, high magic, male lead, no party, guild, or harem No gore, some profanity, no sexual content, and no current plans for anything traumatic

After Z
The signs were all there. A mysterious fever spreading in the wake of the pandemic. Increasing incidents of unrest with surprisingly little coverage by the media. Breakdowns in basic services. Nick had thought for years that total social collapse would come in his lifetime – he just never expected that collapse to come from the unquiet dead. As soon as he was sure enough that the potential danger outweighed the awkwardness of admitting that yes, the dead were rising, Nick grabbed his bug out bag and bugged out. It felt, at times, that the zombie movies, comics, and games he’d grown up with had been preparing for this moment. And Nick was right. But also very very wrong. After Z is an apocalyptic occult interactive serial about survivors hiding from the dead in a forest preserve. A new chapter is posted every week, and every week supporters vote on which way the story flows. This story will be added to daily until it's caught up with its current state elsewhere; if you don't want to wait you can read ahead on my blog.
