The group of warriors all surrounds Jerry as he was about taking his last breath. Even the medicine they have can not save him at this stage even if they ran towards the village at a very quick and fast pace he would still die on the way. Faint sobs could be heard from them all only Michael seems to have a very passive face, such scenario has occurred to him a lot, he has almost been a victim to such scenario at a time but he managed to be rescued by some amount of luck and great willpower. He has long been used to saying farewells to his close friends during hunting but you could still see some amount of redness in his eyes showing that he was trying his best to hold back his tears. No matter how much you see those close to you dying you can’t ever be used to such a scenario.
Due to his severe injuries, speaking was way difficult for him. “Guys, I guess this is it for me. I can’t go on hunting with you guys any longer”, he says with deep breaths and short breaks, he continues saying with tears coming off his eyes, “Guess my only regret was not being able to watch my daughter grow up. Death seems to want to take me away from her early on. Tell my wife how strongly I fought....”, his words cut off as his eyes loses all hints of life while he had a sad face on. Joshua the youngest among them all couldn’t bear it any longer as he sobs loudly, even Michael couldn’t hold back as a streak on tear falls across his face but he still holds on to that passive face. They have been through a lot of life and death situations after all and this just goes to show how dangerous the life of an hunter really is, you can be alive in this moment and be dead in the next moment. Even Andrew although hasn’t spent a lot of time with them still couldn’t help it as a drop of tear ran from you eyes down his face, such a very sad moment indeed. There were at that way for a moment before Michael sighing deeply says, “We need to find a way to transport the frog and Jerry towards the village, we can’t bury him here or leave him here”, with these words, you did know that although he had a ferocious face, Michael was a big softie inside cause doing such a thing would increase their workload and take longer time than usual as Jerry could have just been buried in the forest and they can then take back their haul to the village with little to no difficulty.

“I would take his body and hurry back to the village while you guys should try to cut up the frog’s body”, he turns to Andrew before continuing “We can’t transport it with a carriage, if not there would be too much commotion and it could attract other wild animals, seems this was its territory so other animals won’t come to this place for a while but we should try to clean up all the blood traces to buy us more time. We did have to make several movements before we did be able to transport such huge animal”, he pauses again before continuing, “Two of us would be at guard at all times to secure it but if a powerful animal comes forward forget about the loot and run for your lives. Living another day means having another chance at hunting so don’t waste your lives”. “Me and Simeon would guard the loot, wait while we cut some parts up in order for Andrew and Joshua to follow you to reduce the movements but make sure you all hurry it up”.
After agreeing on what was to be done, they started transporting the animal parts. It went on without too much of a hitch and everything seems to be going well, after taking the body of Jerry with some parts of the frog to the village, they came back and moved some parts again. The water from the riverbed was used to wash up the blood on the parts of the frog and on the ground although not done perfectly but was done to the best of their ability. Although some monsters came around, they were the easy ones to kill but they where mainly insect type monsters although huge, but since they were seasoned hunters they took care of them quite easily. The insect parts where not edible but they could be used to make weapons which were valuable to hunters so they were still put aside but the main priority was still the transportation of the frog meat which could both serve as a source of income and food. It took them more than five hours before being able to transport all the frog parts, they came lastly for the parts of the insects which could be turned into weapons. While carrying it although vigilant they were able to talk a bit, “We were lucky this time around, we didn’t encounter any of those abominations. We would have had to leave the frog and run for our lives”, joked Joshua trying to alleviate the depressing mood around them. “Yeah, we sure where lucky”, pausing for a while he turns to Andrew before asking with a raise of his brows, “Yeah kid, how did you get all those weeds on you. Did you fall or what?”. Being asked, Andrew narrated the ordeal he went through smiling bitterly. “Kid you are a bit unlucky being entangled by the man eating plant on your first hunting trip. But you were able to respond quickly if not you would have definitely died”, said Simeon while hitting Andrew slightly on his shoulders but the hit makes Andrew almost loses his balance but held strong. “That plant doesn’t gives up easily, he must have had something life threatening happening around it or found an easier prey, but either ways you sure are lucky not to have died kid and you did help us at the end. You did pretty amazing”.

They were silence which followed for a while before Andrew says, “Something has been bothering me though”, Michael turns towards him before asking, “What is it?”. Andrew answers by saying, “Why do we use cutlass but not swords? I think the sword would be more efficient in hunting”. The warriors looked at him in an awkward manner, this time it was George whom says, “Being caught with a sword in a village is a sign of rebellion and the wielder would be persecuted without doubt. Only soldiers and registered sentries are authorized to equip swords and if they are on unofficial duties, they are meant to leave the sword behind”, Andrew was shocked before screaming out in askance, “Whom made such fucking rules?”, but Michael speedily grabs his mouth before he says anything else then looks around with the warriors for a while before removing his hands from Andrew’s mouth. Andrew was tensed at this moment because they have gotten out of the forest and were close to the village he wondered if a terrifying animal have escaped the forest and was lying around in wait for them hence the warriors tensed reactions.
“Boy, don’t say that outwardly if not you would be killed without explanation and we could even get implicated for such actions. You saying that would be taken as blasphemy towards the king and that demands you being executed. So endeavor to watch what you say”, says Michael gravely. Andrew was shocked that just some mere words would have gotten him killed. He was still a virgin after all and still hasn’t started enjoying as he did want to. He started sweating in an exaggerated way and he becomes mute throughout the rest of the journey not even commenting in any discussion after that.

Until You Do It Right
The world ended on December thirty-first of the year two thousand and twenty, precisely at the stroke of midnight. The human race began to be systematically exterminated by the spawn of the System. We were given a chance to defeat them, to take back our place at the top of the food chain. We failed. The first to perish were those who bravely rebelled. The soldiers. The defenders. One by one, they fell. In their final moments, they begged for aid. Nobody replied. The next to succumb were those who feebly cowered. The deniers. The leeches. Together, they fell. In their final moments, they cried out into the darkness. Countless voices replied in kind. The last to decline were those who shamelessly ran. The deserters. The cowardly. Alone, they fell. In their final moments, they whimpered quietly. There was nobody left to answer. The final human to die was a survivor. A runner. As he died, he begged for salvation. His prayers were answered. He was offered a chance to save himself, along with all of humanity, and he took it. This is his story. “I sat in the dark and thought: There’s no big apocalypse. Just an endless procession of little ones.”― Neil Gaiman, Signal to Noise. I am absolutely new to writing and will take any and all constructive criticism. Please give feedback, it is greatly appreciated. I will update the tags as they change, and I hope that you enjoy this little story I'm writing! Quick warning: Seamus is intentionally a flawed character, and this story is going to explore those flaws and perhaps even change a few of them. I do not agree with all of his actions, but it is what it is.
