《The Alteras Games: World Jumper Book 2》Chapter 2

Jet stood in front of the scariest thing he could think of down in a cave. A cave-in and a new tunnel. There was also a body in the rubble. Probably more buried underneath. But the small hole to the next room sent a chill down Jet's spine. "So we have to go in there?"
"Yes, take this with you. It will map the tunnels and help you get back." Fred threw some kind of machine at Jet.
"Great, what if the air gets too thin?" Jet had already hit a similar issue in the mine. A machine that pumped air into an area they worked in went out.
Fred tossed Jet an air tank. "Don't all pass out at once. Now get on your way."
"What if we get attacked?" Jet asked. They had some nasty-looking moles tunneling the ground. He just calls them moles. They look far scarier than them.
"Oh, right, here, take this." Fred threw a rusty short sword at Jet. Then walked away.
"Alright, who here knows how to use a sword? Raise a hand?" Jet asked, and everyone but Jeff raised a hand. "Ok, who has more years. I got one."
"I got eleven," Of said, and the two other men looked at her.
"I have over twenty, used to be a guard."
"Ok, I want your name first if you hold the sword." Jet hated not having any of their names.
"Larkin." He said simply.
"Nice to meet you, Larkin." Jet tossed him the sword. Not that he trusted the man. But best to keep everyone happy. There was also the fact Jet was certain he could take the man. So who is first through this hole?"
Jet didn't know why he had bothered asking. He was first, of course. The walls in the new or old cave. He wasn't sure, had some good veins on the walls.
"So, how far do we have to go?" Jeff complained. They had already walked for an hour.
"Until one of us passes out." Jet smirked.
Jeff stopped dead in his tracks. "Is that why I'm way upfront?"
"If it helps, I'm next in line. Larkin is last in line, and he has the sword." No one would volunteer to check the tunnels first. Any turn, they could run out of air.
"Great glad to know if we get attacked, he can just leave all of us to die." Jeff turned another corner.
"What are you two talking about. A little unfair for the rest of us who don't speak multiple languages." Of spoke out from behind Jet.
"Oh Of, I know you can understand us." Jet spoke back.
"No, I can't."
"That's funny. I was talking to Jeff there." Jet smiled back at her. The look on her face was priceless. "What I figured out on the first planet I jumped to is how to shut off the power to speak their language. Also helped with learning to read and write."
"You can shut that part of your power off?" Jet jumped back slightly when Of dove out in front of him.

"Of that is a little close." Jet grinned when she frowned at the name.
"Kayley, now stop with that stupid name." She frowned.
"Kayley, nice name. So just think about, about." Jet stopped. He wasn't actually sure how he did it. "The first time I shut the power off, I was learning how to write in another language. I just focused on a book until it changed."
"I see, one of those hard to explain things." Kayley rubbed her hand on her chin.
"Where are you from? It can't be the U.S. or Jeff would understand you." Jet figured she must be from another country.
"U.S. never heard of the place. Is it a small country?" Kayley asked.
Jet was certain everyone knew about the United States. "What country are you from?"
"Vivliksy, second biggest country in the kingdom."
Jet now knew why she hadn't heard of his country. They may be from different worlds. "Do you call your planet Earth?"
"Planet? What are you talking about?" She asked.
"Are you from this country?" Jet was curious if she was a World Jumper now.
"Uhm, no, I used my magic to Uh, teleport to this country." Kayley tried to explain.
Jet stopped and cocked his head. "Hang on a second, take my spot in line." He walked back to Larkin, skipping the unknown man that won't give his name. "Is there a country called Vivliksy?"
Larkin looked like he was thinking. "Not that I know of. Is it a small country?"
"Thanks, you were a big help." Jet walked off back to Kayley. The other man he passed gave him a strange look. When he went by, it felt like the man was about to jab a knife in his back. The hairs on his body stood on end. After he caught back up to Kayley, it took everything for him not to turn around. "Kayley, I need to tell you something."
After what felt like hours, in reality, was twenty minutes. Jet realized that explaining World Jumping was hard. Kayley thought she was still on her own planet. The biggest thing was her planet had no technology, and this one did. Why was this so hard for her to understand?
"Hey Jet, take a look at what I found." Jeff run over to them with a small stone in his hand. It glowed with multiple colors.
"Wow, what a pretty stone." Kayley eyed the rock in his hand. Of course, Jeff looked at her because he understood what she had said. Jet, however, fell forward after being hit by a rock.
"Hand over the rock." The man yelled at them.
Jeff looked down at Jet on the ground, then back up. As he was about to toss the man the stone, a sword pierced his chest. "No, hand me the stone." Larkin pointed the bloody sword at them.
A purple sword formed in Kayley's hand to block Larkin's blade. She got distracted when Jet stood back up with his sword and sliced Larkin's head. Jet was a scary sight, blood running down his face.

"Uh, guys, I think I got stabbed." Both of them looked to Jeff, who fell to the ground. The rusty sword had pierced his chest.
Kayley was the first to get down beside Jeff, who was now holding his chest. Jet shook his head, trying to get out of the fog. You'll be ok. Jeff, just keep breathing." Kayley added pressure to his wound.
Jet, in his daze, sort of fell beside Jeff and tried to look into his friend's eyes. He had never seen so much fear in those eyes. Pulling Kayley's hands away, he tried to look at the wound. Not that he knew anything about what to do. For one, his blood was dripping onto Jeff's chest. "Maybe I can cauterize the wound?"
"That's a horrible idea. You could burn his heart." Kayley frowned, not knowing what to do either.
"What's that shiny thing there?" Jet pointed at the hole in Jet's chest.
"It's that stone he was showing us. We need to get it out." Kayley reached for the stone.
Before she could grab the stone, Jet's blood dripped on it, making it glow brighter. Bright enough the both of them turned away. Jet, still in a daze, looked back at his friend. "The hole gone."
"Yes, what was that?" Kayley looked up at Jet. "Jet, I think you might have a concussion."
"I fine." Jet slurred a bit, then checked Jeff's heartbeat. Then he realized he couldn't while his body enhancements were active. "You," he stopped himself losing track of what he was going to say.
"I'll check. You stop moving." Kayley reached over, checking Jeff's pulse. "Seems a bit slow to me. Only eighty-seven beats a minute."
Jet, in the meantime, tried slapping himself to help with the daze. It didn't work. So instead, he felt at his wound to see if his skull had been fractured. Well, at least he wasn't leaking brain matter, he thought. "That normal."
"Normal, a hundred and thirty would be a sleeping heartbeat." Kayley eyed Jet.
Jet tried to think what was a sleeping heartbeat for a human. Feeling something press on his head, he tried to look up. "Hold still. I need to stop the bleeding before you die of blood loss." Kayley had a needle and thread out.
"Where did you get needle?" Jet noticed his mind seemed to be getting less fuzzy.
"From my inter-spacial earring, of course." She said as if it was obvious.
Jet wasn't sure if that had translated right. But if what she had was an inter-spacial earring, he wanted one. Just not as an earring. 'Wait, I don't remember her having an earring on.' He thought and looked up, just to get thumped on the head.
"Don't move. I'm almost done." Kayley said as she finished sewing up Jet's head wound.
"I don't remember seeing an earring on you."
"Of course, I hid my earring. When I got arrested for a trumped-up charge." Kayley sat back after checking the rest of Jet's head.
"What were you charged for?" Jet asked curiously.
"Really, aren't you worried about your friend, or shall we play twenty questions?" Kayley looked back down at Jeff.
Jet had forgotten about Jeff. But he leaned over to look at his chest wound. It had completely healed and had a small glowing stone where the hole used to be. "So, any idea what this stone is?" Jet asked.
"No idea. A lot of stuff in this country makes no sense. I'm inclined to believe I am on another world." Then she whispered some barley audible. "Hopefully, he can't find me then."
Jet was about to ask when Jeff woke up coughing. Then he threw up what looked like congealed blood that almost made them vomit as well. "That hurt." Jeff groaned out.
Jet broke out laughing. "I know the feeling."
Kayley eyed Jet quizzically. "You've been stabbed in the chest."
"Yeah," Jet lifted his shirt to show the scar. "Barely survived, and honestly surprised I had."
Kayley couldn't believe the amount of scars Jet had. "How did you survive?"
"Lucky, Lord Crimson barely nicked my heart," Jet added while looking over Jeff. Who winced when he tried to pull the stone out.
"Jet, stop that. It hurts." Jeff slapped Jet's hand away. "So, what do we do now?"
"Aren't we going to head back now?" Kayley asked.
Both of them looked at her. "I have a shiny rock in my chest. What do you think will happen if we go back?"
"Well, at least you thought about that. But I see one problem. We have no way out." Jet frowned.
"We can't escape unless we happen upon another exit out. But these track us, ability users." Kayley shook her wrist.
"You have a sword. Why don't you cut it off?" Jeff asked.
"It's metal, and I don't feel like cutting my hand off."
"Oh yeah, I can see that." Jeff thought aloud.
They both turned as they heard a thump on the ground. Jet had cut his bracelet off. "World Breaker cuts it like butter." Jet smiled at them.
"Jet, if your sword can cut those off. Why haven't we left before now?" Jeff glared at his friend.
"Yeah, I could have summoned World Breaker. You know when we weren't being watched." Jet walked over to Kayley, who backed up. "Don't worry. I'm just going to remove the bracelet. You helped us out. It's literally the least I could do. Also want to talk to you more."
"Sorry, you look like a killer with all that blood on your face. But we still have another problem. How do we get out?" Kayley relented and held up her wrist.
Jet handed her the sword. "You're crazy to trust me. I'm still slightly woozy in the head."
