《Blue Road》Episode 1 (Part 6)

Days later, the party began when the night fell. Tons of cars showed up near the parking lot with the crystal fountain in the display, and people arrived at the doorstep of the Dewberry Mansion, greeting and chatting the night away. Everyone there wore fancy dresses and suits as they did different activities. Some ate beside the trays and tables, some drank from the punch bowl, and others danced in the center of the ballroom.
Richard lied down on his bed, staring at the windows outside. He heard the muffled sounds of joyous laughter and classical music playing from downstairs. He placed the pillow above his head and clenched it tight, now feeling alone. The noise was more apparent and loud than before, but he couldn’t do anything about it, not this time anyway.
Richard got out of bed and sneaked toward the door, creaking it open to peek at the scenery from down below. A big chandelier hung from the ceiling; a red carpet rolled out on the floors and a platinum-colored piano rested near a stool and stood on the stage.
What caught his eye was Gerald, chatting with people that looked to be friends of his and smiling, laughing even. Seeing him like that made Richard’s heart sink into a bottomless pit.
Gerald’s not sad? Has he forgotten about me? He looked around. Nobody seems upset. So, why am I the only one suffering?
Richard’s father tapped on a glass with a spoon to get everyone’s attention, filling the room with silence.
“Everyone, may I have your attention, please? Are you all having a good time so far?”
“Yeah!” Everyone else exclaimed, raising their glasses.
“Glad to hear. I have an announcement to make.” The father turned to Reginald with a warm smile. “My son Reginald is going to be performing a piano recital for you tonight.”

Reginald took a bow as everybody applauded. “I hope you all enjoy it.”
Before he sat on the stool to perform, Reginald’s father walked up to him and placed his hand on the boy’s shoulder. He looked at him in the eyes and gave him a warm smile. “I want to let you know that I am proud of you, son.”
“Thank you, father.” Reginald chirped, his face lit up, but he did his best not to show too much of it. He made it, all he had to do, was make sure he played this part right.
As the lights died down, he played the piece on the piano, as everyone listened. Richard closed the door and turned to fall face-first onto the bed. His hands gripped the pillow as he sobbed quietly to himself throughout the night as the music played from downstairs.
“I... I...” Richard muttered under the pillow. “I hate this family!” He roared as he threw the pillow across the room, hitting the door.
Richard fell into a fetal position on the bed, his face red from all the crying. He looked over at the dresser and opened it, taking out clothes and putting them in a suitcase. He pulled the blankets from the mattresses and tied it around the bedpost.
Richard opened the window, threw the blanket out, and tugged at the sheets, making sure they didn't tear easily. He tossed the suitcase across as it hit the ground before starting the climb down safely to the field.
He picked up the suitcase and strolled along the soft wet grass with his head hung low. Richard could hear muffled laughter and chatter coming from the back of the mansion which continued to make his heart sink as more tears formed in his eyes. He shut his eyes tight and let the teardrops fall and trickle off his face.

The thunder boomed as he looked up at the skies. He clenched his fists as the grip on the handlebar tightened.
“How could you?” Richard questioned. “We had a plan, and you ruined it! Why couldn’t you have helped me back there?” The thunder roared, but was much louder this time. A stroke of lightning came down. “Yeah, now you come down and show yourself? Striking me now won’t help with anything anymore!” Richard shouted, not caring if anyone heard him. “Fine, you know what? Go right ahead, hit me! I don’t care anymore!”
More lightning struck down, but instead of it being yellow or white, it appeared to be a dark shade of red. Richard’s eyes widened, never seeing it in that color before. He didn’t look where he walked, as he tripped on grass and lost his balance. Unknown screaming filled his mind, and before he knew it, he blacked out.

Flesh Forger
Born a bit too late to explore the world, yet far too early to explore space, Graham Lattem is your average 61 year old man - if a little wanderlust filled. That being said, he has a happy home, loving wife, children who check up on him, and a decent retirement fund to live out his golden years modestly. Then it happens. [System Initialization Commencing…] A trick of the light, surely. [Planetary Merger Protocol 331 Enabled] Rumbling can be heard in the distance. Shouts. Cries of anguish. A horrible, ear numbing crashing sound. An earthquake. A hole opens in the middle of his home, and our protagonist falls in as a swirling vortex consumes him. Mountains as far as the eye can see greet Graham as he opens his eyes. Well, and more glowing words: [Welcome To The Macrocosm] [Good Luck] Far away from his family in a world hell-bent on his demise, how will this old, arthritis ridden man survive? Did I mention he has cancer? ===================================================================== Aiming for at least 1 chapter every other day, though there is a very big chance it will more oftentimes than not be more than that! This is my first ever story. One that I’ve been wanting to write for awhile. The system is most definitely inspired by Randidly Ghosthound and The New World, but I promise the story is different! Please point out any mistakes, as I’d love to improve! Also the warnings are just to let me experiment.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
