《Dark Slate》Chapter 10: City Of Bryxton
Advertisement
After a very long and boring trip. We had made it to the City of Bryxton. It's nothing like i had expected. With wide stone paved roads, a bridge over a river, and tall buildings. It looks almost like an 18th Century town from my old world.
Since we were going to be camping in Canavar we didn't go to a hotel. We still had some time to waste before having to meet up with leon's old party. So we were on our way to buy a sword for me.
As we were walking down the road. I heard honking in the distance. When i looked towards that direction there was a train.
That's a refreshing view. I wonder how it works? i thought. In my previous life i'd ride on the train with my friends to go to school or just to go out.
"Hey father do you know how that works?" I asked leon as i pointed at the train.
"Ohh the train!! I have no idea." He said
"Do you know where it goes?"
"yes, It goes to the capital, and to the border of this kingdom."
"how long does it take to get from here to the capital on train?" I asked.
"About two days."
that's fast considering that the kingdom is further away than the village of Sahvil.
After some walking we made it to a weapon shop. Leon said that he used to buy his weapons here when he was an adventurer back in the day.
When we entered the store i stood at the door looking variety of weapons like swords, Bows, spears, and mana amplification stones.
"Well go on, choose a sword." Leon said
I nodded happily. I'm kind of excited to choose a sword for myself.
After looking for a little while i don't know what i'm supposed to be looking for. I've never gone shopping for a sword. I've tried a few, but they were either too long or too heavy.
"father helped me out here. What exactly am i supposed to be looking for." I decided to ask Leon.
He smiled "Follow me." He led me down a hallway to a different part of the shop that was behind a door "This room is used for storage. Once the display shelves are full they store the rest of the weapons here. People are allowed to come here and choose whatever they like, but no one usually does."
"Really?" I said intrigued.
There's no sign that says people are allowed to come in. So i assume they think that it's just an empty room and ignore it. Plus it's down a hallway, no one is going to go through here.
The weapons in this room look of better quality. Maybe this room is only known to VIPs or veteran adventurers.
"Here are some swords for your size. Try them out." Leon said picking one up and tossing it to me. "here you go."
I tried a few of them. They were definitely better than the last ones i tried, but they still didn't feel right for me.
Until i found one that caught my attention. It was the perfect size with good weight. It had a round guard, dark grip, and a diamond shaped pommel. I took it out of its dark sheath, and i took a few swings.
With every swing i took it felt right. perfectly balanced in my hand. It was sharp and double edged. I put it back in its sheath.
"This is the one i want." I told Leon.

He smiled "Well let's get going. I think it's about time we meet with the others."
We paid for the sword and made our way to the adventurers guild. I wore the newly bought sword on my hip.
Now i really feel cool. I can just whip out my new sword at any time and then slash slash. i thought to myself.
After some walking we were at our destination. We walked inside the building, and Leon started to look around impatiently.
"Ahh, i thought i smelled something familiar." A woman said as she walked up to Leon.
But this woman was different. She looked like a woman. With dark hair and a sword on her hip. But she had cat ears on her head, and a long tail.
"ohh i didn't see you there it's been a long time Diana." Leon said.
"indeed it has." The woman responded.
"Diana this is my son Arata, and Arata this is Diana." Leon introduced us.
"Nice to meet you kid." Diana said to me.
"Nice to meet you too." i said
"where are the others?" Leon asked
"this way. Follow me?" Diana started walking.
she led us deeper into the building. Where there was a waiting area and a counter, and there was more animal people along with elves and dwarfs. When we got there we were walking towards a group of 4 people.
"Hey everyone Leon is here." Diana said
In the group there was brown haired man with a sword, and a kid right next to him. Then there was a blonde woman with a spear. And next to her a brown haired man with a staff.
They all started speaking at the same time that i couldn't understand what they were saying. It was a happy reunion as they all got into a group hug. Once they are calmed down Leon introduced us.
"Hey everyone. This is my son Arata" He said putting a hand on my shoulder. "Arata that one with the sword is Julian. The one with the spear is Luna. And the one with the staff is Monty."
"Hello it's nice to meet you." I said with the wave of my hand.
"hello." julian said.
"hi" said Monty.
"Hey kid. You look more like Emma. How old are you" Luna said as she inspected me closely.
"6" I said.
"what!! Your not even at the age where a normal kid would learn magic!" she said surprised
"Hey Leon, Arata." Julian called us. "I'd like you to meet my son Felix." he said pointing at the kid. "his mother is a dwarf. So that makes him a half human half dwarf.
"hello there." Leon said
"hi." I followed.
"hey." He glanced at us and then looked away.
He sounds cocky. Was he spoiled as a child.
"I guess you brought him here for the same reason i brought Arata." Leon asked.
Julian nodded them said. "let's get them signed up for an evaluation."
"ohh right let's go." Leon said.
Leon, Julian, Felix and me walked to the counter.
"Well do your thing mister big shot." Julian told Leon with a smile.
Leon smiled back as we took both me and Felix to the counter.
"Hello, how can i help you today." a woman on the other side of the counter said.
"I'd like to sign these two up for a rank evaluation." Leon said putting both his hands on each of our heads.

"May i take a look at your adventurer card?" the woman said
"Sure" Leon then took out his card. "Here you go."
Once she looked at it her eyes widened. "R-right this way, s-sir." she said nervously.
She led us to an open arena with no people in it.
"Please wait here while i go get an available appraiser." she quickly took off after that.
"What was that?" i asked confused.
"They would usually put us on waiting list for the evaluation, but since Leon is from the top three noble families they can't have him waiting around." Julian answered.
Shortly after a man came entering through the door.
"Sorry to keep you waiting Mr Leon. i'll be evaluating those kids." He spoke softly. He seems to be the same age as Leon and judging by his aura alone, he is strong.
"Ohh it's you. Hey kids, this is Charles. The head of the adventurers guild, and also." Leon paused. "An SS rank adventurer."
"Okay so who's going first?" Charles said.
"Me" Felix said immediately.
He didn't even discuss it with me.
"fine. Come at me when your ready ready boy." Charles said as he unsheathed his sword.
Then something unexpected happened. Felix's body turned into stone and he charged forward. he threw a punch at charles. but he dodged and hit the ground which shattered under his fist.
charles put some distance between them and threw fire slashes at him. Felix raised his hand, then the fire stopped in midair and dropped to the ground.
Felix then levitated off the ground, and picked up chunks of stone which were compacted into spheres that he threw all at the same time at his opponent. While Charles was slicing through them. Felix repositioned himself right above charles and dropped straight down. Creating a crater where he landed and charles was no where to be seen.
Then he reappeared some distance away. "it's not just earth magic that you're using. You were born with special abilities." Charles said. "Gravity manipulation? perhaps."
So that's it Felix was born with special powers. people who are born with them usually discover them as early as 5 year old. Gravity manipulation, maybe he can teach me how to use it.
Then he charged towards Felix, but Felix raised his hand again which made charles fall to one knee. Felix took this chance and jumped above him then fell straight down. But again charles disappeared.
Once he appeared again he put his sword away. within a second he was right next to Felix, and punched him in the stomach which sent him flying.
He crashed in the wall then fell to the floor gasping for air and returning to normal. He looked pissed off, but just sat down to rest without saying a word.
"I'll give you rank A." charles said then he turned to look at me "I'm ready when you are."
I stood on the opposite side of him and took out my sword. He did the same. This is my first time using a real sword.
I took a deep breath and dashed forward. and within a short moment we unleashed a series of attack at each other. We locked swords, and he didn't look fazed at all. I jumped up, and unleashed fire slashes at him. But i added too much strength behind them.
Since they take the shape of the blade, when i used wooden swords i had to add enough power to cut through something. But this sword was already sharp. So with the power i added they just raged violently through the air until they reached their target.
Charles deflected some of them, and probably found it a bother to do the same for the rest. Because he moved out of the way. The ones that hit the ground left deep cuts on the hard stone.
He was coming to me. I compacted a large amount of wind magic into my sword to blow him back. He seemed to notice and put his sword away and started throwing punches to avoid hitting my sword.
I blocked most of his punches. I then focused the wind magic from my sword around my chest area in case he was planning to knock the wind out of me Like he did with Felix. I sticked out my chest a little in hopes he'd hit me there.
And i was right. he punched me right where i was expecting. When he did i released the compacted mana and it created a shockwave that sent him flying. It blew me back a little too, but i was able to get a foothold and charged straight for him.
I closed the distance between us as fast as i could. I punched him in the stomach with a wind compacted punch. It blew him back and he crashed in the wall. I continued going after him and threw another punch, but he caught it with his hand this time.
As he gripped my wrist he said "you're a clever one. Unlike that brute." He kicked me in the stomach and sent me flying towards the center of the arena. "That can't be the full extent of your abilities. What else can you do?"
He dashed towards me, and was about to punch me straight in the face. But i let out a current of electricity in all directions, which stunned him for a second. I used that opening and let out a stream of electricity that pushed him back, and he fell on the ground unmoving.
I used this chance to heal my injuries. Giving him time to recover as well. I pulled out my sword once again, with electricity raging all around me.
"I think i've seen just about enough." He said relaxing his body. "I'll give you rank A as well."
"ehh?" This took me by surprise.
"You two sure are a rare pair." he said looking at both me and Felix.
Then i retracted my lightning.
"Before i go let me give you some advice. You, stone boy, You trust too much in your defenses due your stone body, so you attack aimlessly. When the time comes that you face a foe that is strong enough to penetrate your defense. Attacking aimlessly will be futile. As you'll only fall.
Felix stayed silent.
"You, lightning boy, i sense hesitation coming from you before you strike. You can't be concerned with the well-being of your opponent in a real battle. If you hesitate to throw a deadly blow. It can cost you greatly." He said to me. "Well that is all. Your licenses will be ready momentarily. Please wait in the lobby."
He's right. I do hesitate when it comes to injuring another person, but i can't afford to do that in this world. Especially in Canavar, where beasts will strike to kill given the opportunity. Hopefully i do get rid of that habit, or like he said it will cost me greatly. whether it's loosing my life, or failing to save someone important to me.
Charles left the arena. And we were about to leave as well but.
"Hey jackass what did you say your name was again." Felix said.
Is he talking to me? he's rude. I guess i'll be just as rude and ignore him.
"Hey i'm talking to you. Are you deaf or something?" He sounded annoyed this time.
I let out a gasp and looked at him "Not anymore." He looked confused at my answer to his previous question. "What do you want?"
"Your name, dumbass. What is it?" he asked angrily.
"You'd know it if you paid attention instead of licking your own ass." I told him coldly.
What did i ever do to this guy? He's getting on my nerves.
"What the hell did you say?" He came closer to me.
"Haa. Are you deaf?" i said mockingly.
He grabbed my collar "Listen here. It would be in your best interest not to provoke me-"
I gripped his wrist and cut him off. "Or what? Are you going to cry and tell your daddy."
He turned his fist into stone and punched me in the face. I got flung some distance away. More than pain i felt annoyance and anger.
I quickly healed my face, and stood up. He had his whole body turned to stone running at me. I don't know whether it's because of anger or something else, but i charged forward with way more speed than i was able to before.
This caught him by surprise as i was already on him with a lightning powered fist. This is the most i've refined my lightning as well as it changed to a complete dark blue color.
I hit him right in his stomach which seemed to have done damage to him as he let out a small grunt. My attack knocked him back some distance away, until he crashed on the ground.
He got up while gripping at his stomach.
"Is this what you wanted?" I said. Not bothering to hide the annoyance in my voice.
He didn't say anything, as he got ready to launch another attack.

Accompanied by a wild witch who has secrets of her own, they come across terrible creatures, hauntings, cursed villages, and memories from their past. Who else will they meet along their journey, and to find what he is looking for, how far will the wizard have to wander west? NOTE: The above synopsis is intentionally written to be as spoiler-free as possible. If you would like a more in-detail synopsis, one that contains minor spoilers, please check out the "Synopsis" chapter at the beginning of this fiction. If you read and enjoy, please leave a rating or review! FORMERLY TITLED: THE GLIMMERLING This story was formerly titled "The Glimmerling", because the first part was a short story of that title; it has since been expanded upon, thus the title change. Chapters 1-8 (30k words) are the first 'arc', if you want to get a feel for the story. To give some context on the setting: Magic is a bit weaker in this story than you might be used to, and we start off following some relatively new magic users. For some perspective, being able to light a campfire with magic is considered relatively advanced for someone who is the age of the main character. Magic can become very powerful - and there are some examples of powerful wizards within this story - but it's not where the main characters are yet. Part of the story is about following them as they learn more about magic. Enemies are also very dangerous, and running, hiding, or trying to talk their way out of a dangerous situation is often a better choice than fighting for the characters. While I have added tags for traumatizing content, sexuality, violence, swearing, etc. I try to avoid super-explicit descriptions of these things. But they are part of the story.

Zeroth Knight
Isekai, fantasy, with the core themes of Identity and Fate. Story contains a, mostly, lesbian cast. Just when she was about to confess to the man of her dreams, Eve is taken by a light to another world. Swallowing her up, against her will, eroding her, it demands a life so contrary to her previous one. In a new world with the title of “Zeroth” forced upon her, she must rely on her newfound “friends” to stay sane and navigate her responsibilities. But bit by bit, the world loses sight of the girl inside; seeing only “Zero,” the person she did not desire to be, but the hero that the world needed. Will Eve let the title she bears consume her, or will she become the hero in both body and mind? This is the tale of her struggles, and a star-crossed love destined by Fate to never converge. This is the tale of Zero. This story is a slow-burn, meant to be a few hundred pages or more in length, so the plot isn't the fastest to move. It also has lesbian-themed relationships for the majority of its cast. This story partially falls under, "harem" with the main character being female and gaining the affection of other females, against (at first) the main character's (Eve) will. This first arc will be more focused on the mentality and emotions of the cast with battles spaced intermittently. The second arc will involve a lot more fighting. Arc two will be out in a reasonable timeframe.
