《HEIR OF LIGHT》CHAPTER 12

Jason
The veratus charged forwards, jason stood back and slashed at the first, it crumbled in a heap of dust, the second was almost within striking distance when someone dragged him inside the house. The door closed with a thud and he saw terra muttering something, the door shifted and merged with the floor, it grew vines and connected to the walls,
"It won't hold for long!" She shouted,
"Quick!, follow me!" Taret shouted as they bounded towards the backyard,
The sky was moonless giving us the perfect cover, we came out on the streets, bodies of men and women filled the streets, blood leaking from parts of their bodies,
We moved quickly through the streets and stood before a building, it looked old,
"There's a hidden passage here, it will lead you to the outskirts of the village" Taret said as something whizzed pass jasons face,
Taret fell to the ground, his throat had an arrow imbedded in it, terra screamed and moved back, in the distance was the fey prince with a bow, a smirk on his face,
jason turned at Taret, a smile on his face as he stared at the sky,
"My debt is paid" he muttered before slumping,
jasons head was spinning, rage filling his very being, terra looked at him, she could feel it,
Is this who illummino wanted me to be?, someone who couldn't keep people safe?,
He stood still and watched them ride towards them, he had to do this his way,
"Daren, take terra and meet me at the outskirts, don't wait for me" jason said,
"Don't do it jason, you can't beat them all!" He replied,
jason looked at him, he saw the anger, regret and determination, he nodded and held her,
"We can't leave you, don't you get it?!" She screamed,
"I am your king and I tell you to leave!" jason shouted,
Deep down he new this was not the time to start pulling ranks, knew it was the hurt clouding his mind from the truth, knew he couldn’t bear the thought of losing her, but he would do whatever he had to do to keep his friends safe.
She flinched and kept quiet, her face becoming rigid,
"Yes ikir, as you wish" she replied and moved with daren,
Jason watched them enter the building, the first shadow warrior came forward on a fiery horse, he jumped and took his head out with a slash, the horse disintegrated.
And they came in their numbers, he felt the energy moving in his veins, and they met in combat. Once again jason saw nothing else than smoke disintegrating, moving like a blur he cut through the army of warriors,
The fey prince met him in combat, his blade gleaming, jason wasn't going to hold back this time, they clashed blades in a shower of sparks, detok looked pleased with himself,
"Aw, is the little prince angry I got his friend?, don't worry, I'm going after your bonded next" he taunted,
That drove jason over the edge, like a lit fuse he felt the anger taking him over. He kept on attacking in a fit of anger, driving forward as detok began to falter, a slash at his knee brought him down, he grunted in pain, jason really wasn't going to show mercy, his blade almost connected with detoks head till a black blade intercepted it, he looked up to see the female warrior smile,

"Go after the companions’ detox" she said, and detok scrambled towards the building,
jason turned back to the warrior, the smile never leaving her face,
"Shall we ikir?" She said,
And they clashed in a shower of sparks,
**********
Terrena
She ran with daren into the building, jason closed the link, the loophole still worked, he was a fool, always trying to prove things, the way he shouted, anger filling his voice, he'd never spoken to her like that, ever.
they closed the door behind them, daren panting, terra stared at the door, at the other side was jason against a whole team of veratus, and the legendary derora, daren held me,
"He'll be fine terra, we have to go" he said,
she nodded trying to wipe the tear that spilled on her face, despite just learning of his heritage and powers, it seemed the will of the land itself powered jason, modifying his body in ways she suspected he hadn’t noticed yet.
The hall was big, columns were every where, they ran to the front at began searching for a door, a lever, anything that looked out of space.
She saw the carving of aether in his full glory, holding a lady that looked in flames, her face seemed like a falcons, he pointed to the right, a silver key carved on a table, she showed daren. Carrying a torch towards the carving,
“aether represented light, light to open paths”
"Now we have to find where it opens" he said,
"I wouldn't worry about that if I were you" a voice said,
terra turned back and saw the last person she needed to see right now, detok, daren snarled and changed into a giant wolf,
"A shape shifter and guardian, how nice" he said brandishing his blade,
Daren moved forward but terra held him back,
"This is my fight" she said,
He looked at her and understood, the rectir family had for centuries past stood at the side of the royal family. Sometimes as brides, other times as generals, guardians and even assassins, they were a part of the shield that protected them and terra was the last scion of that great family.
She would make this half god bastard pay for what he did to her and jason, she tapped into the power the bond gave her that night, the power it bestowed upon the mage of water, it gave me fire and light, the power bestowed upon the royal family by illumino and his son aether.
A flaming sword appeared in her hand, darens eyes widened or a second and detox frowned,
"I was sure you were a water user" he said as they began circling ourselves,
"You don't know a thing about me" she replied,
With that he came charging at her.
Jason
The fight with derora was going nowhere, all he could do was defend, she didn't give him a breathing space. He moved back and shifted, his blade gleaming and urging him on. She stood straight,
" I'm dissatisfied with your skills prince, perhaps you could follow me back and learn a thing or two at the palace" she said,
"Oh I'm coming back, but not now!" jason replied and attacked again,

Her broad sword neatly defended his attack, there was no way he was going to win, she just too good, the veratus stood rigid, all that remained of them of course, a thought came to his head in a moment of clarity, he looked at his wrist as he rolled on the floor to avoid the upward swing of her blade, the bracelet!, How could I have forgotten?,
jason pointed his blade at her as he felt the energy pass through him, it shot out as a bolt of bright energy towards her, the veratus disintegrated, she immediately covered herself in a cloak of darkness, jason immediately ran forwards and grabbed her, picturing Vulpix in his mind, the air shimmered around them as they were sucked into a portal in a flash of light and thrown to the bare earth, he stood up and groaned, his eyesight dizzy, she stood slowly.
jasons sight became more focused, he saw the bracelet glittering, like a whisper he pointed his hand at her, an energy ball formed and blasted towards her, it hit her in the stomach and pushed her into a pile of rubbish, he groaned and slumped.
Knowing he didn’t have time to waste, jason pictured the building back and immediately felt the portal take him away, the last sight he saw was of derora looking at me with pure hatred, our parts would meet again and that drove a spike of fear through his heart.
Terrena
He was good, well not that good seeing as whatever magic it was that was contained in that blade of his that enhanced him moving rhythmically, she slashed and stabbed but he kept on parring,
"Hoo, not enough anger I see" he said,
terra moved back and switched to magic based attacks, shooting balls of fire at him, he hit them away and moved back,
"No prince to come to your rescue" he said,
terra was breathing hard now, the energy she expended was beginning to take its toll, he moved forward and made to cut at her, she raised the flaming blade and met it, it drove terra to her knees.
Daren growled and lunged at him, he caught him in a field of magic net, throwing him across the room, she heard daren whimper in pain,
"It seemed you're the only one on this team with nothing to lose" he said,
Terra stood up and pushed him back in anger with a pulse of energy, her mind reeling with rage,
"You're wrong!" she screamed and attacked,
Terra felt like an enraged dog, she didn't care about herself, she didn't care about blocking and defending, all she cared about was watching his blood slowly drip from His body,
Using her last reserves to create a body shield that encompassed her entire body, the rest of the magic infusing into her bones as she prepared for one last kamikaze attack, she would either beat him to death with the rage of a berserker or die trying,
"I've lost everything!" terra shouted kicking him to the wall, the colliding force of her magic infused leg that swirled with all aspects of her magic and the blade of detok propelled the fey prince into the wall where he became a crack,
"My childhood, parents, my life!" she continued as terra slashed at him continually,
They were now a bunch of bloodied mess, with few of his blades strikes getting past her shield more and more and her blade both burning and cutting into him, although he was messier, with a swollen eye and cut on his lower lip,
"The one person that kept me together also" terra shouted as the floor broke and rocks shot out and slammed detox,
The thought of jason drove her insane, all her life she toiled and served, protected him, loved him and all she get was nagging and orders!,
The soil came out also and wrapped him, the rocks compressing him,
"Mercy" he croaked,
Terra fully knew he couldn't die, but I was going to make this the worst torture he ever felt, his bones began to snap as he screamed out in pain and fainted, she tightened my grip,
Sound gradually began to give way as the red haze of battle lust took over, she was terrena rectir, last heir to house rectir, wielder of two forms of magic now expanding due to her bond with jason, a bond he resented
"Terra stop it!, enough terra" daren shouted,
"It's never enough!" she replied,
"Terra please, for the sake of the gods, think of how you'll be seen when you rule beside jason" He shouted,
Terra froze, her head spinning continuously, she stared at him,
"Yes, you love him, not the bond, I know, now please stop!" He said,
She released detok as he fell to the ground in a thud, kneeling and seeing what she did. The power had been so intoxicating, three forms of magic running through her veins, the rage of a berserker making her feel superior, brutal. He was beyond brutally beaten, he was almost dead, save the immortality, he would have,
Terra bursted in a feat of tears, daren hugged her closer,
"It's okay, its not your fault" he whispered,
"He doesn't know, does he?" terra asked,
"I don't know, you'll just have to find out, give him time" he said,
They stayed like that, silent for a while till the door flew open, jason running in, terra realized should have been happy, thank the gods for protecting him, but all she felt was pure rage, anger at his stupidity, anger at his not seeing her love for him, anger at sending her away when she needed him,
He stared at the fallen detok and back at me, understanding blooming in his face as he saw her bloody knuckles, he came forward to hug her,
"Don't. You. Dare!" terrena rectir screamed as fire formed around her body....

No Easy Mode
Reincarnation isn't easy, Sure you might have a status menu but unlike a video game the training is real, the blood, sweat, and tears are real. Unfortunately for Samuel Erasi Fuller he found out that no amount of video game knowledge can prepare you for a world of skills, attributes and magic and even his top notch survival skills only go so far when there are beasts that shoot fireballs or move like a bolt of lighting. Worse yet there are no levels of skills just a name and description and a percentage display! Edit: Yes the poorly done cover is my personal work. Drawing anything using your finger and an app on your phone was not as easy as the tutorial made it look!

The Dreamside Road
Five years after the world fell into chaos, a treasure of artifacts is up for grabs. The relics of the Dreamside Road offer a power that could help rebuild or annihilate what remains. Orson Gregory is an adventurer for hire, but hunts this treasure for answers, not glory. Enoa Cloud’s late aunt helped hide the Dreamside Road, but following in her aunt’s supernatural tradition offers her as much peril as power. Together, Orson and Enoa battle a magic-obsessed militia, clash with a host of rivals, and face constant adventure on their journey to find the Dreamside Road. *Updates Monday and Friday The Dreamside Road is now on TopWebFiction! Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
