《A Life to Save - Protection Detail Series Book #2》Chapter 4

Valencia felt someone holding her hand, felt the softness of the bed, pillow, and blanket covering her, and heard the hovering worried minds.
Jesse. He had finally come.
She could feel his callouses on each finger entwining with hers. She could feel his affection, worry and hope for her recovery vibrate around them. When could she read Jesse? The sensation was very new. Usually, she couldn't feel or hear a thing from Jesse.
"Jesse," she tried to make her lips move. They seemed as heavy as her eyes, arms and legs, "Jesse," she tried again.
"Did you hear that?" Jesse whispered to someone in the room.
"Hear what?" Breanna whispered.
"I heard my name," Jesse whispered, awed, "she whispered in my mind."
"That's never happened before," Breanna whispered, "no one has been able to penetrate anything about you."
Valencia fought the dark tide of oblivion, trying to suck her down again, "Jesse."
The air around her stilled. Slowly she forced her heavy eyelids open.
"Val?" Jesse bent over her, "can you hear me?"
Turning her head toward his voice, Valencia smiled as she focused on his face, "Jesse."
"I'm here," he whispered, "what do you need?"
"You … stay … here," her eyes refused to remain open; the oblivion sucked harder at her. Gripping Jesse's hand, she tried to hold on to the one anchor she had found in the chaos that had once more become her life.
Jesse sank slowly into the chair Breanna had pulled up for him. Valencia's crushing hold still held his hand. Tears filled his eyes; he dashed them away before anyone else saw them. Clearing his throat, he huffed out a heavy breath.
"She woke up," his words tumbled from his mouth, "she woke up when I came in."
"Yes," Breanna said, "you are what she needs."
"What do you think that means?" he looked up, catching Breanna's astonished gaze, "you've been my best friend for years. Be honest."
"You can't work this out for yourself?" Breanna stared at him.
"I'm too scared to hope," he muttered, looking back at Valencia's still form.
"Trust your instinct," Breanna's gentle hand on his shoulder felt like the grounding his heart needed, "she loves you. I've seen Valencia kick-ass; I've seen her take someone on verbally and never back down. I have never seen her ask anyone to stay with her. Not when she learnt her brother was a sadistic bastard, not when her parents' lives were threatened, not even when she was ill. This is a first."

Jesse nodded. Lifting Valencia's hand and gently brushing a kiss on its back before rubbing his cheek against it. Slowly the tension in Valencia ebbed away, and he heard a sigh rush past her lips.
"She loves me," he whispered.
"Yes, my friend," Breanna whispered, "she loves you. Stay here with her … don't argue. Others can cover for the two of you until you can join us."
"Thanks, Bre," Jesse nodded, not taking his eyes from Valencia.
Breanna moved away, meeting a surprised Hana in the room's doorway, passing into the passageway before addressing Hana.
"How much did you see?" Breanna asked.
"She forced herself awake," Hana shook her head, "she is in a medicated sleep, Bre."
"You sedated her?"
"I had to," Hana shook her head. "After resuscitating her, she was all over the place. The only way I could stabilise her was to heavily sedate her."
"She really needed to talk to Jesse," Breanna chuckled, "I told him to stay with her; it will keep her peaceful."
"If I knew that was all it took," Hana chuckled, " I would have insisted he be present from the start. I didn't know the two of them ..." Hana waved her hand in their direction, "were involved. Did you know?"
"Friends definitely," Breanna nodded, "I suspected they cared about each other deeply. Involved ... no, not even I knew it was this deep," Breanna grinned, "tell me, how is Jonathan doing?"
"He seems to be okay," Hana frowned a little, "he keeps working on coordinates on a motion monitoring device."
"Why does he have one of those?" Breanna frowned.
"I don't know," Hana shook her head, "he just stares at me when I ask. I suppose I could ask Cara to take a mental walk, but somehow I sense that should be a last resort."
"I agree," Breanna nodded, "I'll chat with him and see what he says."
Breanna returned to the small group and found Clio chatting with Jasmine; Craig was gone.
"Where did Craig go?" Breanna asked.
"Jon needs to talk to him about something," Clio said, "I think they headed to the tech room."
"Thanks," Breanna said, "everything okay here?"
"We're good," Jasmine smiled, "I sense you'll chat with me later."
"You are correct," Breanna returned the smile, "Hana will keep you under observation for today. After our chat, we'll find you some space if you decide to stay. Clio, find out what Jasmine can do."
"Already on it," Clio nodded.

Breanna followed the passageway before descending the spiral stairwell next to the ramp to the tech room. The glass wall and door displayed the immense spread of computers and other high tech equipment. Craig and Jonathan stood at one of the machines capable of locating an ant in any ant hole on earth. The swishing doors startled Jonathan, bringing him to face her as she stopped a few feet from them.
"What's going on?" Breanna asked, pushing her truth-seeking talent out into the space around them.
"We're… um … just looking into a possible lead," Jon spluttered, "that's all."
"Why would that make you behave like a cat on a hot tin roof?" Breanna stared at the edgy, now perspiring man.
"Just tell her," Craig said quietly, turning his head to meet the worried gaze of his teammate. Sighing, Jonathan dropped into the nearby chair, "It's Daisy."
"What?" Breanna eyed the two men, "tell me everything."
"Daisy seems to have a talent for winding up in more trouble than she should," Jonathan smiled, "I gave her a necklace with a homing device worked into the design."
"You've fallen for her. Wanted to protect her or at least find her to protect her," Breanna said, "why the secrecy?"
"I used one of the homing devices you had put aside for the Summits key players," Jonathan said, not meeting her gaze shifting uneasily in the chair. "A long-range one."
Breanna stilled. Taking in the information, she carefully breathed in deeply. Clamping control over her emotions before she reacted without thinking.
"Did Michael know?" she asked.
"He found a device missing and replaced it before the Summit happened," Jonathan said, "I'm sorry. I had this feeling like she would need either protection or finding."
Breanna nodded and exhaled, "So why the secrecy now?"
Jonathan glanced nervously at Craig before continuing, "Daisy activated the homing device."
"When?" Breanna crossed her arms over her chest.
"The first night of the Summit," Jonathan spoke nervously, his gaze darting everywhere but in Breanna's direction.
"That was four nights ago," Breanna ground out, "why didn't you say something?"
"We were busy with the Summit," Jonathan babbled, "after what had happened with Darcia, I didn't want anyone to be distracted."
"Well, that didn't work," Breanna ground out, "Hana knows you're consumed with something. Cara keeps wondering why you're mind is constantly closed. Oren is getting ticked off with you sneaking around, giving excuses about your late-night affairs. I would say others are distracted. Plus, you aren't building trust with anyone trying to do this yourself."
Jonathan's gaze remained down; he nodded, understanding the severity of his actions.
"How long have you been involved?" Breanna looked at Craig.
"About ..." Craig looked at his watch, "five minutes."
"Can't you find her?" Breanna looked back to Jonathan.
"I have a location, but I can't seem to pin it to an address," Jonathan said.
Moving to the comms panel, Breanna pushed a button, "Kyle and Iris, please come to the tech room."
Breanna met Jonathan's gaze, "You are no longer a single entity, do you understand?"
Jonathan nodded, "I understand."
"Don't try something like this again. You won't live to regret it," Breanna glared at the steady gaze.
"You need something?" Iris asked.
"Can you both help Jonathan button down an address of Daisy's location," Breanna met Iris's startled gaze, "he put a homing device in her necklace."
"We'll find it," Iris nodded determinedly.
Kyle stopped next to Jonathan, giving him a hard stare, "Lone Rangers don't go down well."
"That has been made very clear to me," Jonathan met Kyle's gaze, stare for stare.
"Right, boys," Iris moved in between the two, "I have a sister to find, and you had better help me if either of you wants to see tomorrow."
Breanna caught Craig's surprised expression as he moved away from the bank of computers and toward Breanna.
"Damn, the women in this place are to be reckoned with. Do I stay and make sure that everyone plays nice?"
"That would be helpful," Breanna sighed, "I need to talk to Tina about this discovery," Breanna turned to the glass doors, standing still as they opened, "Oh, some more for your group."
Breanna watched as Cara and Oren came through the tech room doors.
"Daisy?" Cara said as the twins slowed to a unified stop in front of Craig and herself.
"So it seems," Breanna said, "please don't communicate it to the rest yet. I need to talk to Tina first."
"Okay," Cara nodded, "that's what has been on his mind. Kyle kicked his ass yet?"
"Nearly," Craig chuckled, "I think Iris would be first in line."
"Who can blame her?" Oran shook his head.
"See what you can help with," Breanna said, moving toward the lab doors, "I will track down Tina."
"Oh, they're at the indoor swimming pool," Cara said absently.
"Thanks," Breanna said over her shoulder, leaving the room.

The Archaic Elements
A fantasy world, its own unique power-up system, some mystery aspects to make it look interesting and an MC that should make sense but well messes up, cause plot. Flashy fights. Characters will use their brain, unless it is an arrogant young master that needs to be taught a lesson. The starting is slow and maybe boring. The main MC does not desire great strength or harbor any great ambition. He starts out as a naive, lazy and a boring person. But the story does hold one aspect which will fuel the growth of our MC, which is his boundless curiosity for adventure and his will to explore. The second MC is a reincarnation/transmigration and he has a clear cut aim that he needs to achieve. His past life experiences also becomes a pillar that will help guide the main MC, while his friend also supports him. The writing is slow and steady. I will provide reasonings behind most happenings and keep it a logical story. It's a WIP as I edit the previous chapters even as I release more, so while the content doesn't change, the style and smoothness improve. The current release rate is 3 chapter/week. There is no specific date as I can get sidetracked or forgetful., but I will try to stick to Tues, Thurs and Sunday releases.

Natural Alchemist
Will is poor. This is a fact he does not like about himself. Even back at his home village he was considered poor, but poor in the big city means something completely different than poor in a small village... It means ten hour days of hard manual labor with barely enough money to survive, and poor living conditions. He's sick of it, and desperate for change. Perhaps that was what made him decide to spend such a large portion of his savings on a mysterious potion from that beggar... That, and it seemed so special when he held it. But ever since that day, he's been having the strangest dreams... And the work is really starting to take a toll on his body... Author's Note: I wasn't sure which mature content warnings I should put on this novel, as I'm pretty much pantsing the story. I'm putting them there mostly as a percaution, but also to not limit myself as to where the story can go. This is my first time writing and publishing anything substantial. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
