《Deo》Chapter 3

Aurenolia nervously tugged on the ends of her black curls then even more nervously let go when the curls didn't bounce back fully. She folded her hands in front of her, picking at the bows on the skirt of her hand sewn dress. She sighed, then gathered all of her courage, reaching one shaking hand for the latch of her balcony window. With the latch undone, the white wood and painted glass doors swung open and the warm summer night breeze tossed her loose hair.
She hesitantly stepped out onto the balcony. She turned around quickly, shutting the window and standing with her back against it, staring up at the bright moon, too scared to approach the railing. With her back flush against the door she took a deep breath. Two deep breaths.
Then she looked up and saw something truly unbelievable.
A person falling from the sky!
Careening straight towards her!
She reached her arms forward and solidified her stance, preparing to catch the falling figure. The person crashed into her chest throwing her back against the window. The latch snapped under the two's weight and they fell into Aurenolia's bedroom.
Aurenolia sat with the person on top of her, desperately trying to pull air into her lungs.
She shoved the young man off her then took a closer look at him...
He wore strange clothes, not Fol or Kasm clothes... more like crude, simple versions of her own clan's clothes. However, his hair was chopped even shorter than even Kasm hair.
And half his face was horrifically, disgustingly scarred. From the top of his head to his neck there was a strip of burnt flesh. His left eye melted shut and even the corner of his lips was gone.
Surprisingly, he was breathing.
Aurenolia took the time to take off her dress, pulling on a robe over her male underclothes and raked her hands roughly through her hair, doing her best to ruin the curls.
Then she pulled the strange young man onto her back and carried him to the infirmary, calling for servants as she briskly walked down the hall.

Alive?
In the ruins of a once glorious city, a mage awakens. As the sole survivor(?) of the cataclysm that destroyed his entire species, he’s forced to adapt. While learning the intricacies of his new body, he must first carve out a place for himself in a familiar yet foreign world before he can set out to reclaim his heritage. I cannot stress this enough: the character is not human, do not expect him to react like one. I know the hand on the cover only has five finger, but I doubt I am going to find a royalty free radiography with two perfectly functional thumbs placed in a sensible way anytime soon. The rewrite is finished. Beta readers are welcomed and I am still wondering whether I should put the sci-fi tag or not.

A Land of Myths and Legends. It has been far too long since the Age of Humanity has come and gone, the only evidence of those times being ruins and relics, left over from a past shrouded in mystery. In the center of the Human Continent, there exists a Tree, the origin of all the monsters and of humanity’s downfall. Yet, humans prevail, rising from the ashes every time. Countries rise and fall, struggling in an endless cycle of conquest and bloodshed. Yet still they pray to the source of their misfortune, the Tree of Yggdrasil, hoping to be granted one of its miracles. It has been centuries since the Tree has blessed a being. Only a select few in the past were able to receive its grace, bringing about a new form of power to the world and transcending humanity. These beings, having created brand new lands of their own, are known as paragons of their own species, yet they are all cursed in one way or another. Once again, humanity is rising, yet their growth brings about misfortune to all who surround them. Those forsaken even by their own races face death, persecution and loneliness.
